It's Chocolates and a Movie Day!!

{All photos link back to their source in this post
It's FRIDAY!!!...Phew!! I thought the end of this week would never come!! Don't get me wrong, the week  started off perfectly fine last Friday. There was the event for the Poet Emily Dickinson, the 'walk around the town' of Amherst; and hubby's bus trip to New York. I had also gotten my 'Oprah Magazine' in the mail, and finished my book, To Kill A Mockingbird!
So who knew that, after all of those good things, it would all go downhill?! And it only took two things to do it too: A giant black monster spider in the house, and an "Unwanted visitor"...*Ladies, you know who I mean!*...I hadn't seen that "visitor" for about 6 months!...UGH!!
So, I feel like this week, starting today, needs a good jump-start. The kind of jump-start that might make the WHOLE week be good! So that means it's Chocolates and a Movie Day!! :-)
Usually I give you a list of movies that I think are good. Today, feeling like a 'drama Queen' myself...*hormones!*...I felt that only one movie was necessary.....Gone With The Wind!!
Now, if you want to experience the mood of Gone With The Wind, you should click HERE and listen to the theme music and see a great photo montage of the movie...I'll tell you what it's about. But first, you need some chocolate to keep your mouth busy while your ears and eyes are occupied. ^_^ Here's some Chocolate fudge, for the candy lovers.
And some shortbread cookies for the cookie lovers!
Oh yeah! And just so you can feel dressed in the mood too, here's some earrings for you ladies to wear! :-)
      Okay, now we're ready!! :-))
Gone With The Wind is about a real 'drama Queen' with a heart of.....Well, I'll let you figure that out for yourself!! :-)) Her name is Scarlett O'Hara. In the beginning of the movie you quickly find that she's in love with the dashing Ashley Wilkes. I mean she's IN LOVE yall!!
But she becomes devastated when Ashley announces that he plans to marry her cousin Melanie!...*Oop! There it is!!!*...She pleads with Ashley to marry her instead, but....
.....on the first day of the Civil War, she meets the handsome and unpredictable Rhett Butler. A man who matches wits with her, and matches her strength of character.
Wait a minute! I didn't get any chocolate for myself!!!...I need something with some chocolate and pecans....*Pecans is a Georgia specialty! And that's the setting of Gone With The Wind!!*...
It was either these, or some potato chips dipped in chocolate....just saying!!! LOL
Okay, back to the movie....Now, Rhett Butler changes the course of Scarlett's life. Ooooo! So many things happen in this movie!!...By the way, did I tell you that this movie is really long, almost like a mini-series?! But no worries, I think it'll keep your attention alright! :-))
The backdrop of this movie is the Civil War between the North and the South. During this time Scarlett is trying to keep hold of her family's plantation, Tara. And despite hunger, and the burning of Atlanta, Scarlett survives the war and its aftermath.
This movie is a complex blend of intrigue, a love story, a drama in parts, a comedy in parts, an adventure in parts, and a surprise and thought-provoking ending!...And interestingly, a TV mini-series (6 hours long) loosely based on this old classic was made in 1994.
It kind of follows the story line of the original movie by taking you on a journey of what happened next!...The series was filmed at 53 locations in the United States and abroad, and starred Joanne Whalley as Scarlett O'Hara, Timothy Dalton as Rhett Butler, and Sean Bean as Lord Richard Fenton, as well as many other notable British and American actors...It was a long time ago that I saw it, but my memory is that it lived up to the hype!! I thoroughly enjoyed it!
So, there you go! I hope this jump-starts a good week for you all...and ME! I could sure use one at this point!...Have a good weekend everybody!! :-)

Chocolate

A snow storm on the way,
finding out you're hard in debt.
Somehow it's not so bad,
if you have melted chocolate!

Bad news everywhere,
want to throw your T.V. set.
Thankfully there's music
and some deep dark chocolate!

Doggie had an accident,
another long trip to the vet.
A waiting room with lots to read,
but you can nibble chocolate.

Grocery shopping too.
While you run in their to get
dinner for the evening
you can grab some chocolate!

Okay, you know what's coming.
Are you sick of this poem yet?!
If you are, just roll your eyes,
and sit and eat some chocolate!

Hi Deb, Sorry to hear your week went down hill. I hope it turns around. I woke up with a bad headache this morning, so I am nursing that and hopefully it doesn't hang on to long. I watched gone with the wind once, a very long time ago. I don't think I could sit through it again. So very long. The chocolate looks delish. I haven't had any for a couple weeks now. I am trying to loose a few pounds. It is hard, I do so love chocolate. Have a great day Deb. Enjoy your movie and chocolate!!

  6. Peg, :-( Sorry about your headache. That'll start a day off wrong for sure! And it's not conducive to watching a long epic movie either! Or to having a bunch of friends around talking to the TV screen...which is the best way to watch Gone With The Wind!! ^_^ I hope it goes away soon for you. And who knows, a little...I said LITTLE...chocolate might help it! :-)

  9. Debby,

I couldn't agree more. It's chocolate and a movie day. I'm going to watch the African Cats on theaters today, everyone that goes to see the movie will be helping the cats from Africa. Because Disney will donate a portion to them. I'm excited.

    Have a lovely weekend.

  10. So funny! Mr. Man and I just watched Gone With The Wind the other night. I HATED it and went to bed about 1/2 in. When I asked Mr. Man the next morning what he thought of the movie, he said 'I think it was really long.'

Have a GREAT weekend! I LOVED your comment this morning!

  11. Deb, the more I read your posts I wonder why you did not become a journalist. I have watched Gone With The Wind some years ago. I always remember the spoof that Carol Burnett did on the movie. Love the poem. Hope that your end of the week gets better.

  12. Priscila, Oooo! I've been hearing so much about the African Cats. I didn't hear about Disney doing the donation though, so thank you for letting me know about that. Enjoy it, and let me know how you liked it afterward if you don't mind...Have a good rest of the weekend too! :-]

  13. Holyoke Home, It was on the other night?! Where?!...And F.Y.I., my hubby tries to come up with every excuse in the book not to look at most movies I want to look at! LOL There are a few exceptions. The only one we both agreed on looking at together initially was "The Rocketeer". He LOVED it....I fell asleep about 20 minutes in!! ^_^ Just goes to show, just like life, everything is not for everybody! You have to "do you"! LOL Have a good weekend!!

  14. SnowflakeDreams1, Awwwww! What a nice thing to say!! Truth is, I wonder why I didn't become a writer too!! LOL Let's just say that I was a late bloomer as to recognizing what I wanted to do with my life! ^_^ Considering some of the good turns my life took though, I wouldn't change one thing! :-] I have to be honest and say though, that it sure feels nice to hear someone say that!...So, maybe I won't be a journalist, or a great novelist, or a writer with one good book in her. But I'll be a Poet! It's too late to take that away from me!!! ^_^ Now....how to get paid doing it?!..Hmmmmm. ^_^ Have a good weekend Velma!

  17. It's been years and years since I watched Gone With The Wind. Your fabulous blog post makes me want to spend a few hours in front of the television viewing it again. The movie and chocolate idea can't be beat. I couple chocolate with everything ... lunch, dinner, a nibble before cleaning the house, a big bite after cleaning the house, a treat after a long walk, etc. Hope you enjoyed your movie/chocolate eating Friday. A great start to your weekend. Enjoy! That chocolate fudge ... to die for!

  18. Mmmmm chocolate! We just made brownies over here because I was in some desperate need of chocolate myself. Tho I must admit I tend to enjoy the batter that sticks to the bowl more than the actual cooked brownies! LOL Here's hoping next week is better for ya ;)

    xoxo

  19. Julie, Thank you so much for such a nice comment. But, of course, you always DO leave me the nicest comments. :-] I appreciate the thoughtful responses and the feedback you always give me. Just wanted you to know....Now, you're a girl like me that knows that chocolate (and ice cream too, for me) goes with everything!! And is good for almost every occasion! :-)) And chocolates and a movie...PERFECT!! It's just a matter of what kind! {Last night hubby brought me a gift of 'Pepperidge Farms Chesapeake cookies with chocolate chunks and pecans'!! So appropo, don't you think?! ^_^ It was a great 'Date Night' gift and a good start to the weekend! I hope you have a good weekend too!

  20. Ashley, Yum!!!! I could have used some of those last night! Not the batter though. The cooked, chocolaty, cakey, candy, brownie!! ^_^ With pecans (Georgia-style)! I've never understood why people like batter. But, hey! To each his own! "Be you!" Thanks for the nice comment, and I hope you have a good weekend too!
