Yo-Yo, Yo-Yo.......BAG!!!

FINALLY!! I actually started the Yoyo bag! The header photo is showing my very first Yoyo!....Don't get too excited. I've got to make 52 of these babies!!...And so it begins!! :-)
As I tell you a few of the details about how I'm making it, I think I'll tell you the story of the 'slip' that slipped. :-) I haven't told you that story, right?! :-)) ... One day, about umpteen years ago, I decided that before I picked up hubby from work (in about 3 hours) I'd do the week's grocery shopping. No "biggie", right?!....Wrong!
    I parked in the huge parking lot...about a half a mile from the entrance to the SUPERmarket. {maybe a slight exaggeration, ^_^ but this was a huge supermarket, with a dry cleaner, florist shop, deli section, fresh produce section, fast food section, vegan section, seafood section, etc....I'm just saying it was a HUGE supermarket!}
*A few more Yoyos. I'm making them using 6 colors: Red, Green, Purple, White and Brown...in different combinations. The most of any combination of three colors I have to make is six. So, six with brown in the center, then red, then white.*
Back to my story...The twist to this story is that I was not planning to actually do the grocery shopping today! I was really tired and had wanted to just "veg out" for the day. But hubby's car went 'kaput' that morning, so I had to take him to work and then go pick him up afterward.
I was sooooo tired that I had been lounging all day, fighting the urge to go to sleep. I didn't want to go to sleep, because once I was 'out' I knew hubby would be really mad about having to call all over creation to get a ride...Because once I'm out...I'M OUT!!! LOL
To keep myself awake I figured I'd go out to the grocery store. Kill two birds...so to speak. I'd get the grocery shopping done, and stop myself from falling asleep!...Problem was, I was already really tired...and not making good judgment calls...Like deciding to wear my knee length 'nightie', under a little short overcoat, no bra, and my "comfortable" undies...PROBLEM!!!
     I got a big shopping cart, and pushed it...while I leaned on it most of the time...up and down, aisle after aisle, filling up the cart with all kinds of things: baking goods...(gotta have my self-rising corn meal for my cornbread!)...laundry supplies, canned goods, fresh veggies, nuts, meat....and more meat!...and some ice cream for good measure! :-) {I didn't think that through too good though, because it was HOT outside. The drive to hubby's job was at least 45 minutes one way! Never mind the wait for him once I got there, and the drive back home!! O_0}
All of a sudden I felt this funny feeling, like someone had pulled a parachute cord around my waist!...Uh Oh!! The elastic was letting go on my "comfortable" undies!!! My "Granny Panties"!!! (Sorry!)....What was I going to do?!! I'm in this huge supermarket, with other shoppers going up and down past me....with their nosy little kids in tow!! LOL (Sorry mothers....they're cute, but they "IS" nosy!!! LOL)
*Just wanted to say, I have to make 10 different Yoyo combinations all together. All of the above combination, all 6, are all done now. YAY! Only 9 more combinations to go!*
Back to my story...This is what I did. I closed my legs together and just shimmied! I shimmied all over the store....as the elastic let go more...and more...and more....until...*Pt-Fluffufity!*...it gave way completely!! O_0 Then I started to shimmy faster than anybody you ever seen shimmy!! I had to get out of this store! before....Oh! I didn't even want to think about it!!!!!
I found a bench and tried to sit and think about what I was going to do...while I put my hand 'in my pocket' *wink! wink!* and tried to grab a hold of them to see if I could prevent the inevitable!...But I couldn't really reach them, and I couldn't stay here much longer! Hubby would be waiting for me...worrying!!
So up I went again, and slowly pushing my cart, I shimmied to the checkout. As I was standing in the line.....*Note to self: Never go grocery shopping on Wednesday Senoir Citizen and Mommy coupon day again!!*...the whole 'kit and kaboodle' gave way, and I was standing there with the...(sorry)...crotch area ONLY held between my legs, and the other part of the undies, with the completely broken elastic, had floated down like a fluffy parachute...and was now visible from under my 'nightie'!!....*smh* It looked like a slip with some kind of ugly half broken trim all around the edge!!...UGH!
*This is the next Yoyo combination...green in the center, then brown, then red!*
Back to my story...So, here's what I did. I put both hands in my pockets, left the shopping cart with the sweating ice cream container, meat and veggies, right there in the line (to the frustration of mommies, senoir citizens, and nosy questioning kids)! I shimmied all the way to the car...a half a mile away!! :-)) Got in the car, grabbed the "slip" and pulled it off, walked quickly back into the store (no shimmying required this time! It was a "breezy" easy walk! :-))), and got back into the checkout line! LOL
If anybody noticed,...and at this point I was too tired to care!!!...nobody let on. Not even the kids! :-)  I paid for my groceries, rushed them out to the car, put them in the trunk, got behind the steering wheel, reached down and flung the "slip" onto the passenger seat, and hurried off to get my hubby...trying not to fall asleep behind the wheel!
When I got there I was able to turn the car off and go to sleep because hubby was not outside yet...Ahhhh!...I was awakened very shortly though, by a man with a scowlly puzzled look on his face, and a silly question: "What is this?!"...as said "man", my indiscreet hubby, held up my "Slip" like a ship's sail for all the other people in the parking lot to see!!...*SMH*
I wondered what question he would ask when he opened the trunk and found that the vanilla bean ice cream container didn't have anything in it, but there was this white milk all over everything in the bag! ^_^ I didn't want to think about that either!!! I just let him drive home, while I slept!
To be continued!...The Yoyo bags, not the story. ^_^ For the story, THE END!

A Little Doze'll Do You!

I enjoy my sleeping, and a doze,
a nap, and such.
In fact I might enjoy a snooze
entirely waay too much!

At any time of day,
you'll find me like a weeping willow.
Head hung low and dragging,
looking for the nearest pillow.

No, there's nothing wrong.
I'm not depressed. I've still got bounce!
And I can stay awake and be
quite witty when it counts!

But I have been awake for things
where I could have been asleep.
And now my time's so valuable
I don't treat it like it's cheap.

My sleeping, dozing, napping,
is to my life a special key.
It unlocks and refreshes
and dispels anxiety!

Most people try to fill up
every hour in the day.
But me, I'd rather be asleep
and waste it all away.

There's plenty hours left
for all the flit and play and chore.
An hour for a nap right now?!
Why not?! There's 24!!

  9. Elisa, :-)) Thank you for the nice comment! I actually took breaks because I hadn't intended to tell that story when I started the post! ^_^ I had intended to show you all my Yoyo bag pieces I just started!...But as I got going I thought about how boring that would have been, just showing the circles, and how I could add music or something. Then I remembered how much I used to love to watch people I knew crochet and tell a story at the same time. Then...'it was on'!!! LOL I'm glad you liked it, and the poem too!

So glad you have started the bag and you are liking it. You are doing it in wool? very cool. I agree it was tedious but changing the colours was fun.

So glad you like the pattern.

  14. Alittlesprite, No it wasn't!! ^_^ It was fun writing about it though....And for the yoyo bag I'm using 100% acrylic yarn. It's soft and easy to work with. And it'll be washable. I like to use it with most everything. I love the pattern!
