'Twinkie' Man Lingo

I don't know if I've ever told you, but my hubby is a salesman for Hostess Snack Cakes, maker of Twinkies. Your knowing that is germane to my story today. And, Oh Yes!, there is a story! Ha! Ha!
I was trying to explain a cooking technique to my husband yesterday. ..'Caramelizing'.  You know, like the caramelizing of onions
I was talking to him about this because I was trying to tell him about how I make my chicken soup. How I caramelize my onions in olive oil and seasonings before I use them as a base for my soup. How I like to have my onions 'sweat' in a frying pan, with garlic, celery, onions, and seasonings, before I put them into the pot with my chicken and broth.
The reason I told him all of this was because chicken soup was on the menu for dinner, but we didn't have any onions in the house.  I was trying to lay out for him how the soup was not going to taste the same without my caramelized onions. How I'd have to change to another formulation all together...for some other kind of soup!
Anyway, the soup was put on, in the slow cooker, without the onions, and had been cooking for quite a while, when he came home with onions, and said:
           "Just put 'em in there!"
I said: "No, it's too late now! It's already been cooking now. It's almost done. Maybe I'll make another batch tomorrow."
He said: "Why don't you just put 'em in there now?!
I said: "Because I've seasoned it to be without them now, and anyway, onions in the soup that late don't work the same."
He gave me that 'head tilted sideways, puzzled, look. He couldn't understand at all what I was talking about...UNTIL I put it into "Twinkie Man' terms. ^_^
I said: "It's sorta the same as if you gathered all of the ingredients to make Twinkies, and you just dropped them...loosely, not formed into anything...into some hot grease. You're gonna get something that's 'cooked', but you won't get a Twinkie!!"
He got this 'Ding! Ding! Ding!' look on his face. That's when I knew that 'connection' had been achieved!  :-)  I could almost see the deep fried Twinkie in his eyes!! LOL
You're probably wondering why I even bothered going through all of the explanation, right?! Well, the answer is, I'm too old for the frustration of maybe having to have this same conversation again tomorrow about something else similarly related! I figured I'd get it all in an 'explainable package' so that I could just 'refer' to it later. LOL
You know...'Why are you putting the flour in there?'...'It's like the Twinkie thing.'...'Oh!'.....'Why is the sky blue?'...'It's like the Twinkie thing.'....'Oh!' ^_^
He said: "Ohhhhhh! Now I get it!"....And he just walked away!
Ahhhhhhh!...I love being the kind of wife who can translate words into Poetry, stories, and.....'Twinkie Man' lingo! LOL

 Too Old For Frustration

I am too old for this frustration!
Too old to change this heart.
Too old to patch up anger,
when I can just keep it all apart!

I am too old to let it get me!
Too old to waste all day.
Too old for words unspoken.
To old to let it lay.

I am too old to get involved.
Too old to take a side;
Especially when it don't matter.
I'd just as soon let it slide!

I am too old to do it for you!
I can barely do it for me!
Too old for needless frustration.
For most things I just let it be.

I am Too old to tell a lie.
Way too long in the tooth.
Don't have time to fix it later.
That's why I deal now with the truth!

  5. Now that you have mastered the language of 'twinkinese' just imagine how many things you can now translate.
Thanks for sharing, now I just need to put this into Football perspective and I think we'll make a connection.

  13. lol I love your post today.
I know exactly what you mean about cooking the veggies first. It takes that 'raw' edge off them and makes everything taste better.

  14. Jo-anne, :-)) Thanks!...And that's exactly right, about the raw versus the caramelized onions. It makes a world of difference when it comes to taste, right?!
