What Do You Do When The Weather Is Scary?!

Thanks to WWLP 22News I was able to see exactly what weather we were getting, where it was coming from, and how long it would be before it got here!...Wait! Did I say 'THANKS' for that?!! O_0 I'm not sure if I really should be thankful for it because it was kinda stressful watching it!!

Seeing all of that red and yellow wasn't bad enough!...Then there were all those 'Watch' and 'Warning' messages, hearing the big thunder claps, seeing all of the pouring rain and pings of hail hitting the window. Not to mention the wind whipping my hummingbird feeder around on the tree branch!..YIKES! Shoulda took that down!!! O_0

I had to find something to do with my poor anxious 'wanna-take-a-Rip Van Winkle' napping self!!!! Something besides sitting and thinking about how this very same kind of weather was what recently produced the tornadoes that hit our area recently!!!

So, let's see.....What to do?!!...You guessed it! ^_^ CROCHET!!! Me and my black and white shawl...yes, now it is officially a shawl!...we have become intimate acquaintances now! It was great to cuddle with when the thunder boomers hit! :-)

It's so soft!!!
Now I just have to figure out how long I actually want to make it! Any suggestions?! When you wear a 'wrap-around' type shawl...assuming you do...how long do you like for it to be?! Do you like it to pass the 'over-your-booty' test? Or do you like it to be just at the waist and more about shoulder coverage?! I'd appreciate your input on this one. I can't think about myself, because all shawls in the world would have to pass the 'over-your-booty' test for me! LOL That is...if I cared about such things!! ^_^

Anyway!...I also did some other things while we were having the 'Scary-Weather' day. I had a little tea break...(Photo courtesy of Christopher Boffoli)

....I ate a little food...Okay, a lotta food! *Teehee* And I even watched a movie 'ABOUT' food called "Julie & Julia"!!! {It was less fattening for sure! :-)} And it had music! Always a good distraction. :-]

So, that's what I did...What do you do on 'Scary Weather' days?! {And by the way, don't forget to enter my hat Giveaway! Only 5 more days!}

Describe The Sky

Evoking awe and bouts of wonder.
Such inspiration, you just want to cry.
With birds high-flying, and winds a blowing,
what words would you use to describe the sky?

Would you say, whether clouds are upon it,
that it blankets a wondrous space?
Or would you be more awed and humbled,
hoping there you would find God's face?

I would say that when standing quiet,
looking up at the sun or moon,
there's a feeling of peaceful oneness
that I hope won't go away too soon.

Evoking bouts of awe and wonder
was probably what it was designed to do;
That is, besides giving off light and weather,
and the most spectacular view!

    I fret and worry. I watch the news intently. You sure have been getting you share of the storms. We are under a severe drought. They canceled the July 4th fireworks and have banned all fireworks. Looking forward to seeing your shawl when it is finished. I am sure it will be great. Have a great day Deb. Hugs. :)

  2. Peg, Ha! Ha! I did a bit of that too. Could you tell?! ^_^ I was fretting more for hubby than for me honestly though. I knew he was out there in it, and was going to be on the road coming home at the time all of it was gonna be at full steam! He got home safe though...and my shawl is almost a blanket!! LOL Have a good weekend!

  3. So much red on that radar. Ahhhh! I love storms though. Probably not ones that bad—they really are scary—but I like lightning and thunder.

  4. James, I like rain storms usually too! But the recent destruction of the tornadoes that popped up took some of the Oooo...Awwwww...factor out of it for me! But hey! 'I feel ya!' LOL

  5. I usually hole out in my basement when it's bad out. Make jewelry...keeps my mind off the weather for sure!
    Your shawl is coming along. Looks great. I don't know about length, I never use one.
    Sorry it's taken so long to comment this morning. Kids got here early and VERY whiny this morning! Ugh!!!!
    Have a great day my friend!

  6. CinLynn, Ah! Basement jewelry making! That'll work!...Thanks for the nice words about the shawl. Somehow I didn't picture you as a shawl type of Girl. That would be ME!! Shawls, scarves of all kinds, hats, head scarves, etc.... I'm all about accessorizing!! :-)) Have fun with the Grands..."Wah!!! Wah!!!Wah!!!" {Just wanted to make myself feel like part of the family. ^_^}

  7. I can't believe you can make sense out of that radar! I always thought they just needed to show a graphic of a really angry rain cloud over where you live - that would make it clear to me what was coming!
    I like my shawl over the shoulders and just above the hips (so there is waist coverage). It looks great - warm and cozy!

  8. Lisa, :-)) Unfortunately, living in New England, I've had LOTS of experience with this weather! Green means rain. Yellow means heavier conditions. Red means "UH OH!!....RUN!!!" LOL Thanks for the nice words and the input on my shawl too. I appreciate it! :-)

  9. We had some nasty weather here in NY last night too that probably left here and headed up to you! I had just gotten home and was so happy I wasn't out driving in any of it! I don't like storms at all! I like to sit with my pug, he calms me down. lol

  10. Cathy, Yep! I think it was your weather we got!...THANK YOU!!...NOT! ^_^ And here I am without a pug too! LOL

  11. I'm constantly watching the weather data on my ipad - hate when those areas of dark orange are close to me! It has been a scary weather spring and summer!!

    Loved - totally loved - the movie Julie and Julia!!

  12. Vicki, I think that, with the weather we've been having, keeping an eye on where it's heading is probably a smart idea!! Of course...you're still never gonna know for sure! LOL...And I enjoyed the movie very much...and the food! :-)

  13. I am loving the look of the shawl. If it were me I would make it cover my back, well to the waist.
    I hope the weather has settled down for you.

  14. Most of the time I'm at work with no windows to look out of to see the bad storms...surgery could be a scary place during a tornado! We've had our share of crazy weather too, but not as severe as your home. I do love the black and white..very pretty and I would be tempted to hide under it if I saw that funnel cloud!

  15. Woah, that would be scary...and I love how you dealt with it! Perfect. I just finished the book Julie & Julia. must see the film soon (I’ll wait for some scary weather)! Have a nice weekend :)

  16. Jo-anne, Thank you for the input on the shawl. And that's exactly what I'm going to do, I think. Make it go to the waist. Then it'll still be long enough to wrap around the shoulders if need be...I appreciate your thoughts on that. :-) And yes, the weather was just beautiful today!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. yaya, You know, I have thought about you, being in the process of prepping someone for surgery and hearing that "train" noise! O_0 Can you tell I've been thinking about this a bit too much?! LOL But anyway, I'm just enjoying it, the weather I mean, when I can now. No sense looking for trouble!! It'll come soon enough, I'm sure!! ^_^ ... Thanks for the nice words about my shawl too. :-]

  18. KERRY, :-) Oooo! You're reading the book!! Here's my advice...finish the book before you see the movie. I did that in the reverse with 'To Kill A Mockingbird' recently (saw the movie, and THEN read the book) and I was confused the whole time I was reading it! The visual of the movie was very different from the way the book was written. I wished I had read the book, before seeing the movie umpteen times first! ^_^ Have a good weekend!! And I hope it's good weather!

  19. Love the shawl its beautiful i like them to just drape over my shoulders and so i am able to throw it over one shoulder ;-)) I hope the weather is getting better for you. dee x

    ReplyDelete
  20. delia, Ahhh! Draping for the shoulders! Thank you for letting me know. I think that's the consensus. Not making it too long...And as to the weather? Today?.....Brrrrr! It's so COLD!! But still...the hummingbirds are faithfully coming! :-)
