And You Had What Job?!!!!

I've got a couple of things to talk to you about today. My hubby's 'stick figure' drawn photo that is my header photo today, I'll tell you about in a minute! :-) ... First I wanna tell you a couple of other things.
First let's talk about my old chairs I told you the story about a couple of days ago...I got the most wonderful message right after I posted the story. :-] It was from Sissy, of LoveSissy on Etsy. She was very touched by the story and made me a wonderful offer.
She absolutely thinks the chairs should be redone, rather than thrown away...So do I, by the way, but..........! O_O ....But to that end, she offered me some help. She offered to talk me through a re-do of the chairs, if I wanted. Uhhhh.....I don't wanna! :-))
Then she offered an even more wonderful thing...She offered to re-do the chairs for me! She even said that she would happily take care of the cost of supplies! The only problem is that I have to figure out how to get the chairs to her in Chicago, and then back again......Chicago is almost 800 miles away! O_O
Oh! How I would love to see these chairs redone and useful!...So, I'm trying to figure out how to turn the story of these chairs...which, as Sissy acknowledged, technically would bring about $5 each at a thrift store around where she lives, ...into a story worthy of the friend that gave them to me to keep safe...and worthy of the kind heart of Sissy...If you have any suggestions bloggers.....fork 'em over!!! LOL

Now, on to another wonderful story...a lapel pin/boutonniere story! :-) ... I got an email last night from one of my customers. Her husband bought three of my boutonnieres...YAY!!!!...and she sent me photos of her husband wearing them!! :-] ...

Is that cool, or what?!!! :-) ... I love my customers!!...She went further though! She had an idea to run by me!...She teaches, and at her school all of the teachers are wearing little clips in their hair. She sent me pictures...

Some are apples, or just plain bows. But some are little animals! She thought it would be adorable if they were crocheted, and wanted to know if it was possible to do something like that!....Hmmmmm...She even said that if it 'was' possible, she'd love to buy some from me!!
Now, you and I know that I'm NOT gonna try to make no animals!...Baby Wuglyee bear was enough animal creation for me! LOL Just the thought of the scary look on the face of some patched together owl or bird makes me quiver! ^_^ But the thought of hearts, apples, and flowers on little hair clips makes me smile! :-) So, I'll be working on that....sometime or the other....soon. I'm in full on lapel pin and boutonniere production right now though. :-))

NOW! About my hubby's 'stick figure' drawing!...He came running in the house yesterday, all excited. He said: "I wish I had your camera with me earlier! You should have seen the guy in the basket swinging in the wind!!! Oooooo! I wouldn't want that job!!!!"
That started a long conversation about what jobs he and I have had in our life...I was a 'pea picker'. I literally picked peas in the hot Georgia sun...row after row after agonizing row!!...Hubby countered that by telling me the story of him being a paper boy. He said he was yelled at by customers, chased by dogs, rained on, put in uncomfortable positions...by women yelling: "Come in!" when they were not dressed well enough for a young, twelve year old, unsuspecting, impressionable minded, kid to come in!! O_O He says he still has visions burned into his brain that he wishes he could get outta there!! LOL
I was an assistant kindergarten teacher for a short while....very short! There was too much 'booger' talk, wiping of noses, and eating of things I didn't wanna eat....because I had to set an example for the kids! ^_^ Along those lines, I wanna say that whoever started putting spinach in a can needs to be forcibly placed into a room for 80 days with 130 runny-nosed, sugar-laden pre-schoolers!!!....They're cute, but they're little walking Petrie dishes! :-))))
Hubby was a dishwasher for a seafood restaurant called "Red Lobster". He couldn't even form whole sentences when he was trying to talk about it! ^_^ ...He said things like "hot"..."sweaty"..."waste"..."quick"!...Too quick for him in some cases. 'Bussing' tables is no joke!  ^_^
I didn't realize how many different jobs I've had until I started to write them down...hubby either!...I've been a camp counselor for a group of 'off-from-school, full-of-energy' kids...I've been a personal assistant to a very forgetful patient...(some days she didn't know why I was in her house! O_O)...I've been a nurse's aide...etc.....
Hubby was a machinist, working with graphite (the stuff pencil lead is made of)...a bus driver...*Hmmm...we both seem to have surrounded ourselves with kids. Maybe that's where our child-like personalities came from!....I said 'child-like', not 'child-ish'!...just so you know!!*... LOL...He worked for a newspaper company (UNBELIEVABLE to me, after the experience he had as a paper boy!!)...He worked for two different vending companies (Stocking the vending machines with snacks)...He worked for a 'temp' agency, where they sent him out on temporary, non-permanent jobs, like one where he worked at a warehouse wrapping packages...and he was a cafeteria manager....WOW! He cooked and planned meals before he started doing it for me!!...Aha! That's where the 'Cooking Fool' was born! ^_^ ...There were other jobs he had too...like his last one, as a sales route driver for Hostess/Wonder Bread...maker of the "twinkee"!
What kind of jobs have you all had, dear bloggers?!...(pause).....Look at that!.......Ha! Ha! Ha!....Mike Rowe, the former star of the TV show "Dirty Jobs" just happens to be on the Rachel Ray show today!!! Ha! Ha! I just looked up and saw him!! ^_^ ....Anyway!...as I was saying, I'd love to hear what kind of jobs you all have had in your lives...were any of them 'dirty jobs'?! Jobs you really didn't like I mean....ones you would never want to do again?! :-]
Okay....I'm off to do some jobs I love. Take a wild guess what them include! ^_^ Have a good day. Everybody!

 Double Take

Yes, I looked at it again,
because I couldn't believe what I saw!
Was it meant to catch attention?
Or to make you drop your jaw?

Was it what I thought it was?
Was it real, or was it fake?
Just like life and all it's wonder,
some things need a double take.

    1. I've done babysitting too...but pruning pine trees....No! And I know someone who did shoe repair. Depending on the shoes, that can be hard work!...Thanks for sharing your jobs with me! :-]

  2. Sounds like glamour jobs to me! Tee Hee!! I had some myself. I was a "soda jerk" in a drugstore soda fountain, I cleaned and buffed watches for my dad, I was also a dishwasher in a restaurant and can totally relate to what your hubby was saying, or trying to say, and I was a waitress. I also cleaned an office building for a few years, which I loved and miss, and I cleaned empty apts. Oh I hated that job!! Now my job is simply to fulfill my vow to Jehovah to pioneer. Love this job!
    Have a great day!!

    2. WOW, Cin! A soda jerk!...Did you get paid by the 'root beer float'?! LOL...And I knew about your job with your dad and the watches. :-) And who knew you were a waitress! Oh yes, you and my hubby could probably swap some stories! ^_^ ...All in all though, the job you have now is one I also had. I loved it too...and miss it. I have great joy knowing that you are doing it! :-)

  3. Wow Deb, now you have me thinking about all the jobs that I have had. I've picked strawberries, picked apples, picked grapes, worked in the fields cleaning and spraying weeds, potatoe processing plant, teacher at mini head start and kids unlimited, cook at a restaurant and school, restaurant manager, a hostess at a restaurant, business owner, secretary, spanish interpreter, CNA, Medical assistant,I also was a babysister in my teen years. That's alot of jobs once you write them down. Congrats on your sales!!! Have a Great Day!!!!!!

    1. WOW! Another berry picker! ^_^ Looks like a lot of us did that! Not to mention a lot of the other jobs you had. You and I were doing the same things!!...except the potato processing plant. I wouldn't touch that job even for money! The smell, on a regular basis, of bad potatoes would make me fall out of love with my beloved potato...and I can't have that! LOL I do wish I spoke another language well enough to be an interpreter though. 'Pig Latin' and a fake Jamaican accent don't count! LOL...I can sign though...but too slow to be an interpreter! :-) I teach the Bible thoughand I'm not bad at that. Of course I get help from above. ^_^... By the way, the number of our jobs shows determination and 'stick-to-ative-ness'! We'd do whatever was necessary! I think that good qualities to have in this day and age, don't you?!

  4. I cleaned a lady's house in high school who was in a wheel chair, I folded a whole lot of jeans and t-shirts at the Gap both in San Diego and Los Angeles, worked in a Boutique selling soap and aftershave and worked at "Banana Video" ... I was only 20 at the video store and we had certain videos behind the counter that men would come in the store to rent ... I was so embarrassed!

Anyway, good luck with the chairs!

    1. I see some similarities between your list and mine, in your jobs, too! The lady that kept forgetting who I was, and wondered why I was in her house, was in a wheelchair. I used to have to wipe down her wheelchair and her electric bed with a bleach solution every month too! YUCK!...It sounds like the job in the boutique could have been fun, but not the folding of jeans every day. I've done that too. That was hot, sweaty work!...Ad I avoided video store jobs just for the reason you mentioned!!...Plus it was soooooo loud in there all the time!!...Thanks for sharing your jobs with me! :-]

  6. Love the chairs..if you can get to me in Ohio my family who lives in Chicago are coming for a visit in Oct and can take them to the blogger in Chi-town. Jobs..Oh brother, I've had a few...babysitter (hated it!) store clerk for Kresge (a division of KMart), gift wrapper for Sears at Christmas time, (loved it!), telemarketer..hated it too!, nurses aide, store clerk for Robert Hall (men's suits..hated it the most!), store clerk for Goldblattes, reservationist for Holiday Inn (got free rooms!), my very favorite job? It was also my very first job: Candy girl at a movie theater...loved it!!!..Of course now I'm a Surgical Technologist and I love it too! Whew, I'm tired! Have a great day! Oh, I almost forgot. The one job I really, really wanted was to be Snow White for a little amusement park that was opening as I was graduating from high school. Maybe you heard about it?..Disney World? I even applied and they told me to come to Florida, live there for 30 days and then I could apply...I couldn't afford to do that right out of school, then life took over and Snow White was just a dream...sob! Oh well, I do still love her! Maybe I could be the wicked witch now?

    1. Oh, Yaya, if only you lived in Connecticut or something! ^_^ Ohio is still FAR AWAY from me!... I'm gonna keep working on it!...As to the jobs, WOW! You've had a whole slew of jobs too, haven't you?!! The reservationist and the candy girl sounded like they could be fun! ^_^ But the telemarketer and the Disney character...not so much. :-)) Anyway....thanks for sharing, Yaya! :-]

  7. I've had loads of mad jobs, but I think the best "story" job is when I worked for a lady as a "replacement for her" as she put it. I did all the things she thought she wanted to do but didn't have time for. Daft things - like shopping for and cooking fresh fish...then forking it up and plating it in individual portions and freezing - for her cat. I ironed for her - even her bras and corsets though I can't imagine why she wanted them ironing. I even hand wrote her Christmas cards "to make it more personal". That really was funny - how was it personal? I'm not her!!

  8. What a wonderful continuation of the chairs story. I truly hope that you are able to get them fixed up one day.
Ooo I love the idea of you making some pretty hair clips. I can't wait to see what you come up with.
You and hubby certainly have had a mixed bag of interesting jobs. I'll have to tell Angus you were a pea-picker just to see his reaction. Peas are one of his least favourite foods!

    1. I'm still trying to work on the chairs story...*sigh*...I'm finding that it's a 'big ask' to ask someone to transport my valueless chairs across the country...for free! O_O ... And I made the hair clips...and she liked all three!! :-] She bought them today! (Sept. 2nd)...And lastly, Oh yeah, hubby and I have had a bunch of jobs! I didn't even mention them all! ^_^ Tell Angus not to laugh at me being a pea-picker! That was hard back-breaking work for a kid! ^_^ The least he can do is eat some peas in my memory! LOL
