Morning Conversation...Things We Learned From Our Parents

      Yes there is!......always a memory, I mean. :-] And somehow hubby and I seem to have tucked every single thing that's ever happened to us away, in the far dusty corners of our mind! ^_^ And they pop out on mornings when we're just chatting about nothing in particular.
       Sometimes 'new' things pop out of those corners that you didn't even remember that you tucked away in there!...things that shape the way you behave. Things that you had forgotten that you remembered your parents doing...not just saying! O_O
     Yes, some lessons you learned from your parents were verbal....like, don't run out into the street!...or don't pick your nose in public....or don't point at Miss Mamie and say: "You're fat!" (That lesson was followed by a non-verbal lesson. A good whack across my mouth!...It only took one whack to learn that one!...OUCH!!! ^_^...I'm sorry, you people who don't believe in spanking, but in this case, a good whack was warranted! And the lesson has stuck with me for more than 50 years!!)
     But sometimes the lessons your parents taught you weren't verbal at all! No words were exchanged...or needed!...For instance...

Pay Close Attention When Somebody Is Trying To Sell You Something!

        Hubby learned this lesson from his father. Not because his father 'said' it to him, but because of a traveling salesman that came to the house selling smoke alarms (or smoke detectors). The salesman was friendly and smiling. He even demonstrated how the smoke alarm worked!...His father bought the alarm, and the story of how it worked, hook, line, and sinker!..He hung it in the basement by his work station.....Ahhhhhh! Safe, right?! O_O
       WRONG!!!!...Years later, during some of hubby's investigative work...Don't ask! LOL...he found out that the smoke alarm wasn't a smoke alarm at all!!...It was a box with a screen across the front and a little light inside. It couldn't detect smoke! It didn't even have any buttons!!!...How terrible to find out after years of thinking that you were safe, that you really weren't! And even worse...you had been 'taken' years earlier by a smiling 'money grubber'!! O_O...Lesson Learned!! Pay close attention when somebody is trying to sell you something!! ^_^ ...That's the kind of lesson you need a memory box for, right?! :-)

Always Put Other People First!

       This was a lesson I learned from watching my mother. I learned this lesson many times over the years, but one particular time was when she had just finished cooking a meal we hadn't been able to afford to have for quite some time...pork chops with gravy and onions! YUM!!...There was homemade biscuits and fried corn and mashed potatoes too!..*licking my lips even now! LOL*
      I remember seeing the gravy bubbling a little in the frying pan...when some friends of my mom's knocked on the door...O_O...HUNGRY friends! They smelled the pork chops!...I whispered to ma: "We don't have enough to feed them!!" (There were only enough pork chops for most of us to get one a piece. Two little ones had to share one!) She said: "You go eat. I'll take care of it."...And I flew to the kitchen to eat my pork chop before those ill-timed visitors got their 'grubby paws' on them!! LOL
      I heard my mother laughing and talking away...The two pork chops that were left were breaking all apart! They were soaked in gravy!...Then I saw my mother go to the kitchen and fix plates for her guests. She gave them every single bit of the leftover pork chops, gravy and onions, mashed potatoes, and corn!! O_O
       At the time I was angry with the visitors,...but years later I realized what a lesson my mother taught me...always put others first, be self-sacrificing, and the benefits to you will be long lasting...I learned that this was true because her friends never forgot my mother's kindness. Many times when we were in dire straits,...and I mean DIRE!...those friends came to our rescue...and MANY times!...I am the woman I am today partly because of this lesson learned. :-] ...That's the kind of lesson-learned memory you need a memory quilt for, right?! :-)

      So, what lessons have you learned from your parents?...Verbal or non-verbal?!...It's Monday. Let's talk!! ^_^

Hmmmm...Does It Need A Nickname?

      Three things...One, I think my body clock is changing again. I can't seem to keep my eyes open long after the sun goes down. Case in point...it's almost 4 a.m. right now, and instead of being off in dreamland somewhere singing and writing sonnets for the new version of 'Pride and Prejudice'...a girl can dream! :-)) ...I'm up writing a blog post!
      And actually, I've been up since about 1:30 a.m.! O_O I fell asleep around the same time the NBA playoff game was getting started, around 7:30 p.m. or so...Me and hubby...after a wildly funny conversation about what we would nickname our children ^_^...were gonna watch it together, have some popcorn and tea, and THEN go to bed!...I didn't make it to the tea.:-)) I barely made it to the tip off of the basketball game! LOL...{Some of that was due to the 'talking head' commentators that kept going on and on though...just saying! ^_^}
      The second thing...What am I gonna get hubby for an anniversary gift this year?! O_O After all, what could he possibly want that would be as great as....ME?!! LOL...Stop Laughing!!!...After him saying that if we had a child he'd nickname him "Wobbly Wibbly" maybe I shouldn't get him anything!! ^_^ {I'll tell you why he said that in a minute..I have to stop laughing so I can finish typing first. LOL}

       The third thing has to do with the new venture I'm mentally chewing on...making flower rings. This beauty from SpotLightJewelry (above) is great inspiration, don't you think?! :-) Of course, my rings would be crocheted flower rings.
       I was thinking about it a long time ago, but I kept mentally coming back to: "How would I ever know exactly what size to make them. People's fingers are all sizes."....and "If I bought an adjustable band to start with, how would I put my flower on them without glue?!"...I really don't wanna put glue on my crochet items!"
        To their credit, I found some creative and wonderful Etsians that clearly have figured this out!...

        I'm especially partial to this large Sunflower Crochet Ring (below) by joyfulgabby!...

        I like things BIG! :-) ...and I like the way she attached it to the ring base...

       And even though this Stylish Cocktail Ring (below) by GlamCro is silver wire-crocheted, I'm inspired by it too!...

      The only thing left for me to do was order some adjustable base rings...

       SunAndMoonCraftKits to the rescue! ^_^  I bought these this morning...Now I just have to figure out which of my crochet flower "babies" are gonna occupy the spotlight on my new rings. :-) Any suggestions?!

       Now....why did my hubby wanna nickname our first child...which we haven't had...and which I'm now wondering if I wanna have with him!..."Wobbly Wibbly"?!!...He said it was because with his big head, and my big behind, this kid wasn't gonna be able to walk a straight line standing up!! LOL
      He was pretending he was gonna discipline him. He yelled: "Come here 'Wobbly Wibbly'! And watch out for the wall!' ^_^ Then he got completely 'out of order' and said: "You know the neighborhood kids are gonna say 'There goes that Wug kid....Zig Zag.'....O_O He said the neighborhood kids are gonna nickname our kid "Zig Zag"!!!!! LOL...Nope! He doesn't deserve a 30th anniversary gift!...He deserves a whooping!!! LOL
        Have a good day, Everybody! :-)

The Butterfly Led Me To Them!

     I was roaming around Etsy...like I do...and saw this beautiful Salmon Colored Moth Butterfly Vinyl Decal by WilsonGraphics and was 'WOWing' all over the place when I noticed that this butterfly decal and my Salmon Orange Circle Scarf...
       ...were sharing a Treasury!! A beautiful Treasury curated by stonetree, entitled Sensuously Salmon
       Everything in this treasury is beautiful! A few of my very favorites are the Apricot Dyed Jade 8mm Faceted Round Beads by UncommonBeads...
       The Pale Salmon Flounce Skirt by leasvintage...
        ...and the Salmon Leather Covered Buttons by Hosilo!
     I really didn't know how I missed seeing this Treasury. So I decided to look and see if there were other Treasuries that I might have missed.....and lo and behold there were!! *smh*
     This beautiful Edible Sugar Rose by andiespecialtysweets...
      These Little Lovelies Rosebud Earrings by Vintagelucys...
       This Vintage Rose Flower Strapless Dress by pinnydream...
        This gorgeous Jardin, Victorian inspired Ring by lePetitFoyer....
       ...and my Green Crocheted Hand Sandal Bracelet...
         ...were all in a Treasury curated by BolstersMills, entitled A Rose By Any Other Name.
     I was so upset that I had missed two Treasuries!!! Then I realized it wasn't two......it was 4 I had missed!!!! *sigh* My Wine Me Winter Too Scarf...
        ...had been in this Treasury by catlovesbear, entitled Time for a faveourites clear-out #10.
       And my Butterfly Under a Grassy Green Flower Necklace...
      ...had been in this Beautiful Butterflies Treasury, curated by sdjjewellery.
       WOW! If it wasn't for that butterfly I would have been completely in the dark about any of this! What a shame that would have been...I want to thank each and every one of the curators of these gorgeous Treasuries for taking the time to include one of the items from my Wuglyees shop. Business has been REALLY slow in my shop. So much so that I have spent the last few days changing the prices, including shipping prices, on almost every item in the shop. So I certainly appreciate your trying to help me to get my shop and my crocheted items seen!
     If I had known that these treasuries were out there I would have been 'talking them up all over town'!! LOL Talking is 'in my lane'! I can do that!! ^_^ Anyway, at least I got the opportunity to show them to my blog pals. All of the photos in this post are 'Click-able'! Please 'Click' on over to anything you like and take a little 'Look-See'! :-) And if you find something nice...come back and let me know about it. I'd love to share it with everybody!!
     Okay, I'm off to do some studying....and then some reading. I'm on chapter 8 of 'To Kill A Mockingbird' now! Jem, Scout and Dill almost got into some really big trouble trying to go up to Boo Radley's house, looking in the window! Jem lost his pants when he was on the run from the house! He had some quick 'Plaining to do', as Ricky Ricardo of 'I Love Lucy' would say! Ha! Ha!
      Have a good day everybody!! :-)

Ooooooo! That looks good!!

     No matter how good it looks,...trust me,...the "Looks" cannot do it justice as to the way it tastes!! It was SO GOOD!! :-) What is it, you ask?! It's Cottage Pie! I saw it a while back when I was looking at a blog post on the recipe blog Framed.
    I told my girlfriend, who had already planned to make a meal for hubby and I yesterday, that I had a couple of recipes I was itching to try. One being this Cottage Pie. She said: "Let me make it!"...So I didn't fight with her!! LOL
    I did make the deal with her though, that if she was making it, I would pay for the ingredients!...And she didn't fight with ME! LOL
    Cut to some butter, onions, carrots, tomato paste, ground beef, thyme, pepper, dark beer, flour, russet potato, and some peas later....and wallah!!
     It was absolutely delicious!!
    Now, my girlfriend and I being who we are, couldn't be satisfied to just do ONE recipe! I mean, if you're gonna be doing all that grocery shopping, setting aside the time, and heating up the stove anyway, you might as well make it worth your while!! Might as well make enough food to keep you out of the kitchen for a few days, right?! :-)
     And so....The Pioneer Woman Cooks! recipe for what she calls My Favorite Meatloaf  'to the rescue'!!
     This became recipe number two!!...Ingredients?...Whole milk, bread, ground beef {Yes! we're on a ground beef kick!! LOL}, Parmesan cheese, salt and pepper, parsley, eggs, ketchup, brown sugar, dry mustard, Tabasco, and my beloved bacon!!!...Yes!! Yes I did say bacon! :-))
      Before you put this baby in the oven, you wrap it all up with bacon!...Now you know probably why it's the pioneer woman's favorite meatloaf recipe! ^_^ It's definitely got my vote now!!!
    My own favorite meatloaf recipe....before this one...involved crackers and slabs of cheese in the middle of the meatloaf. But now that I've tasted this one....HANDS DOWN, this is now my favorite!!
     And it's not only the bacon that did it for me...although frankly, it was a BIG part of it!...but it was the sauce you mix to put up on top!
      That's what took it over the top for me!!...And to tell you how good it is, my girlfriend doesn't like anything that even has the hint of pepper or hot spicy taste. She never uses black pepper even! But this recipe, that she just wanted to 'Taste"...she loves!! And it has black pepper AND Tabasco sauce in the sauce part!!...That's how good it is! :-)
     All in all, it was a good day to be in a kitchen!! ^_^ Even if I didn't get my Cheesecake out of the deal!
      I wouldn't of had room for it in my belly anyway, after I got through "Tasting" everything!! LOL And Jehovah God knows I didn't need it!! ^_^ I think her sweetness about all of this was enough anyway!
     She deserved a little present...so the next time we cook she can be comfortable. So, remember these?!
      They now belong to her!!
     She loves them. They were so comfortable that when she got ready to leave my house she almost forgot she was wearing them!! LOL They're good, but...Uh....they're not snow proof!! LOL (And yes...we do have tons of the white stuff outside! And a few storms due this week, carrying mostly rain.)...Moving on!
    Hubby wants me to thank all of you for your concerned comments yesterday, and to let you know 'he heard you'!! He's going to try to be a good boy...this time! {Going light on the Meatloaf and Cottage Pie even!! LOL}
    And just as an update....I'm still at it with the purple slouch hat! Here's where I am now...
     I probably could have been a lot further along, but I get bored with it so easily and have to put it down a lot. I don't know what that's all about!! I can crochet non-stop for hours, but the knitting....that's a 'horse of another color', as my granny used to say! ^_^ I'll keep at it though...I'm considering making the finished hat my Giveaway gift for March 1st! :-) {By the way, don't forget to follow this blog and make comments below, in order to be eligible for the always running Giveaways! You can see what the current Giveaway gift is by looking on the right hand side bar and clicking the link.}
     Lastly, a big Woot! Woot! to all of you, here on my blog and on Facebook, for all of your wonderful and supportive comments from yesterday's blog post. It's nice to know I can just 'say what I need to say' in blogland. :-) I already know that, unfortunately, my experiences aren't unique. And I'm also aware that they are things that can make some people who don't like to talk about such things in public, uncomfortable. But I am who I am, and I'm not one for hiding behind words that need to be said. I just try to do it with as much respect and dignity as I can. And I thank you all for understanding.
    Okay, off to do some finishing touches on some reading, some studying for my meeting tonight, some tweeting, some shop checking, and yes...some knitting! :-) What are you doing today?! And do you have plans for the upcoming weekend?!
