Do You Have Questions About Your Family Tree?!

https://www.etsy.com/listing/126699932/genealogy-trees?ref=favs_view_2

      Guess What?!.....I found something to talk about! ^_^ And it kinda happened by 'happenstance'. Before I start 'yammering on' though, let me say a big 'Thank You' to the Etsy shops whose items I shared today. As I always say, you can find just about anything to support a conversation on Etsy!! There's so much creative talent in 'dem 'dere shops'!! :-)
       So, as I was saying, I found something, by happenstance, to talk about today! And the 'happenstance' was some family members starting an online group to chronicle our family tree! :-)

https://www.etsy.com/listing/167873827/rhinestone-family-tree-t-shirt?ref=favs_view_1

      When I was first invited to join the group I was apprehensive. I mean, there's a lot of turbulent water under that tree! LOL I was worried that it was gonna turn into a negative 'bicker fest'!!...But I was wrong! :-)
      As the days have gone by I've noticed that all kinds of family members have stopped by and, in an informative way, shared who they are, who their children and family members are, and who they're related to in the tree!
      I called myself trying to be funny when I mentioned that my hubby and I have no children, but that we lay claim to a certain crochet stuffed bear who answers to the name 'Baby Wuglyee'! LOL So far no one has made any comments about it!...Hmmmm...maybe that don't get the 'funny' of that!...You don't think they REALLY think I gave birth to a crocheted bear, do you?! O_O

https://www.etsy.com/listing/55416356/family-tree-print-family-wall-art?ref=favs_view_4

      One of the sweetest things that's starting to happen is that everybody is starting to share photos of themselves and their families....now....and waaaaay back when!! :-) It's so much fun to see family pictures of people you haven't seen in a  while, and even more, to see and hear the stories of things you never knew about your family!
      In fact, what it's doing for me is putting some hints of stories that I've heard over the years in their place, and  answering some questions about things I didn't dare ask before!...It's also bringing up many more questions too! Questions even about my own history!!

https://www.etsy.com/listing/63797850/family-tree-charts-with-blanks-you-fill?ref=favs_view_3

      I find it interesting that some families have NO secrets. They grow up knowing who they are and where they come from!...Of course I'm talking about inter-family stuff now, because I know where I come from in the BIG PICTURE! I mean, all humankind came from the same two parents after all!! :-) And I thank Jehovah God, for that! :-] If not for that knowledge I might not have had any confidence at all in my family line!! ^_^
      I'll tell you honestly though, I've spent some very thoughtful days over this family tree!!! And I feel sorta like one of Louis Gates Jr.'s celebrity subjects on 'Finding Your Roots' the other night...He said that finding out where he came from 'made his back a little straighter'. :-] I'm feeling that way a bit myself!
      Hopefully the feeling will continue, and I'll be able to share a bit of who I am now as a grown woman with my new-found family! :-) ... I know I'm gonna be sharing a lot of crochet flowers with them pretty soon!! ^_^
      Speaking of flowers...

https://www.etsy.com/listing/199775331/statement-ring-silver-gold?ref=favs_view_5

      Isn't this a pretty flower ring?! :-) ... What?!.......You knew I couldn't leave here without at least ONE flower somewhere!! LOL...Have a good rest of the day, Everybody!! ♥

In The Mirror, I See Me

The lines of history are there,
just like a book upon the shelf;
And they are written so that I see
that I'm no longer just myself.

I did not see it before now-
my mother's hair and brother's teeth,
my sister's honey-colored skin-
They've stolen time, just like a thief.

The mirror's image always was
of me alone-just here and now;
But as I age, and years go by,
I see granddaddy's furrowed brow.

I see my auntie's pug, round nose;
and my uncle's sun-bleached spots.
It is amazing -one-by-one,
the way it all connects the dots.

They have written on the pages
of the book of life I see;
When I look into the mirror
and no longer just see me.

It is a thing I must accept,
instead of fighting who to be.
I just accept my life's reflection,
and I smile at what I see,
when, in the mirror, I see me.

The Wedding Shawl Is Done!...And So Is Our Anniversary! :-)

https://www.etsy.com/listing/198461921/crochet-lace-bridal-wedding-shawl?ref=shop_home_active_1

     Hello Y'all! :-) It seems like forever since I talked to you!!...Rest assured I 'was' still talking though! :-)) I was talking about bunny rabbits and territorial hummingbirds, thunder storms and lightening, old TV shows and music, vintage Portuguese cotton and our 32nd anniversary! :-)
      I'm practically all talked out!!....Okay, you know that's not true!! ^_^ But instead of doing a whole bunch of talking today, I just wanna show you the finished wedding shawl! :-) ...

      I didn't get to photograph it the way I wanted to. None of the local bridal shops were interested in me using their wedding dresses to show off 'my' shawl! LOL...Go figure!!! ^_^

https://www.etsy.com/listing/198461921/crochet-lace-bridal-wedding-shawl?ref=shop_home_active_1

      And I couldn't find any recent brides that wanted to model it for me! :-] ...

https://www.etsy.com/listing/198461921/crochet-lace-bridal-wedding-shawl?ref=shop_home_active_1

      So...it was 'headless Tina' to the rescue again!! :-)) ...

      The bridal shops 'were' helpful though! They helped me price the shawl!! :-) I was pricing it slightly too low, they thought!...Again, 'Go Figure!' ^_^ The suggestion price is right around what they thought it was worth now. You can go and check out the listing by clicking on any of the photos above.

      Other than 'shawl-talk'...uhhhh...there is 'anniversary-talk'! :-) Hubby and I celebrated our 32nd anniversary!! :-) We didn't do anything particularly special, except for pondering all of the years of memories there are to think back on! :-) And there are a LOT of them!! ^_^We're almost as old as dirt now!! LOL

I'm As Happy As A Pig In Slop!

       I'm getting old and I'm starting to scare myself! I find myself quoting my grandmother almost every day now! O_0 Do any of you do that?! Please say: "Yes!"...Anyway, the title of my post today was something my grandmother used to say all the time if anything good happened to her or someone she knew.
     When I got through opening my Giveaway gift package the other day, and I was sitting there on the bed with all of my goodies laying around me, that's what I said out loud: "I'm as happy as a pig in slop!!" ^_^
     After I got through explaining the expression to my Massachusetts born and bred husband...^_^...I put all of my things away and sat there with a silly grin on my face. And as I'm going through the pictures of it all to show you today, that's the same silly grin I have now! ^_^
    Speaking of pigs in slop though, before I show you the pretty jewelry I got, let me show you the ugly mess I made yesterday when I finally cut into one of the chocolate candy apples I got!!!...
       Is this sad or what?! I took the chocolate and nut apple out of the fridge and didn't know where to start to eat it!! ^_^ If I was a young kid, like I used to be!...and if I was running through the carnival Fair grounds holding a candy apple on a stick in my hands, like I've done a few times in my life!...I would have leaned my head sideways, took a huge bite out of it, and walked around chewing with a messy pig sloppy face! ^_^
       But I'm an old lady now! :-) So, I got out a plate to put it on, got a knife to cut it with, and tried to cut it slow enough so as not to have nuts flying all over the floor, and not slice the thumb off of my 'fool' hand!
       It took me a little bit longer than necessary because...*shaking my head*...I didn't cut it in the middle and the wooden skewer stopped me cold!! LOL I was sawing and sawing...and putting my glasses back on...and sawing and sawing....! Then it dawned on me that I probably should've gotten through the 'fool' apple by now!!...Oh boy! ^_^
       You haven't seen ugly...or pathetic...until you've seen an old lady with her glasses cocked sideways so she can only see out of one eye, a chocolate candy apple cut in pieces on a plate in front of her, and her eating it with a knife and fork, slurping the bits of nuts and chocolate off of the side in slow motion so that she doesn't get any of it on the floor where the dog or cat could get to it and die!...*shaking my head* What's even more pathetic is that I don't have a dog or a cat!! ^_^
   I am here to report though...with all ten fingers intact, and no dead animals laying around me!...that it was gooooooooood!!!...{Well worth me recommending you to take a  little 'look-see' around the shop of Nicole's Homemade Treats!}...Okay, on with the show! :-)
       This little colorful shiny box was also on top, in the back, of the pile when I opened my package...
        It was taped up so good that I had to use scissors to get into it! But 'get-into-it' I did!!...
      I got past the packaging...
       ...and found this beautiful ceramic green heart made by PotterybyJolene...
     Front and back...so cute! :-) I may make a crocheted brooch to put under it. You know me! :-) ...I went over to check out the rest of her shop too. I found this beauty there...
      She has some other ceramic heart pins there too, if you're interested. :-)
      The next gift I opened was this...
        It came from an Etsy shop called dorana...
       Aren't they pretty?!! :-) I can't wait to wear these! This 'piggie' is gonna be looking 'puuuuuuurdy!' ^_^
       dorana has all kinds of other pretty jewelry too...like this Breakfast at Tiffany's Sterling SilverFlower Weave Cuff Bracelet...

    Last, but not least,...jewelry-wise...was this gorgeous necklace...
       I couldn't find the tag for the maker. Maybe I'll be able to tell you later. But isn't it gorgeous?!!
       I'm a sucker for a flower anyway!! :-)) But this one is so pretty! :-) ...No! You can't have mine! But I did a search on Etsy and I found one sorta like it. It may be by the same designer. If I find out I'll let you know who it is. :-) ......{UPDATE: I found out that the necklace is from thecuriouscupcake! YAY!!}
      So, I'm off to work on either a new scarf or a hat today. My little 'secret' project I was working on is all done. Since I have some other things to show you tomorrow from this Giveaway gift package, I'll show you my little project tomorrow too. :-) Suspense! Can you feel it?! LOL...Don't get that excited. ^_^
      As my grandmother would have said: 'That's all y'all!"...But as the cartoon  'Porky Pig' would have said: "Th-Th-Th-Th-Th-That's all, folks!" ^_^ Have a good day! See you tomorrow!

My husband Thinks He's So Funny!

    Do you have a neutral-themed kitchen, like I do?! Well, you might find these dish towels as cute as I did! And you might get some ideas on how to make the kitchen an even cuter place to spend some time. :-)
    The header photo is a page from the article in my Country Living magazine. It's entitled "Dry Wit". The article says you can add a bit of colorful humor to your kitchen with these little dish towels. There's pictures of mason jars and teapots. One has spots on spoons. :-)) One has a detailed field guide to pots and pans. And one has a picture of egg beaters. The description says 'whip daily chores into shape with a sunny mixer motif'. Cute!...and witty!
    They have the places where you can pick up the cuties, in the magazine. So you know what that means!!....If you want them you might need to get the magazine to find out where to go shopping! :-)
    I thought these were a perfect lead in to what my hubby did this weekend. He thinks he's pretty funny too!.....And SOMETIMES he is!! LOL I'll tell you about it, but first I need to take care of some other business about the Giveaway I drew for the other day.
      As you'll remember, Cindy, of CinLynnBoutique, won...AGAIN! She was happy, but because she just won the last Giveaway a couple of weeks ago, she decided to pass this one on to the next winner. So, the second name that was pulled out of the box...just in case #1 passed on it, which she did...was...
    So, Julie G...Congratulations!! You can email me, convo me on Etsy, or tweet me on twitter to give me your address...that is, if you're interested in receiving my BIG afghan!! :-] (Scroll down to the bottom of this post to see photos of it)...I'll be announcing the new Giveaway item tomorrow. I've been putting all of your comments in the box for it already! :-)
     Okay, here's what happened...I was in on the computer, in deep concentration as I was reading your blogs and tweeting away about the football game. Then in burst hubby, looking like this...
     Now, I know you don't know him that well, so I can tell you that this is sooooooo NOT his usual dress. Not even when he's around the house! What he said when he popped through the door was: "Do I look like Pop, or what?!!!!" {"Pop" is making reference to his father!} Apparently a friend from the Kingdom Hall, our place of worship, gave him some clothes. These pants....which are a "kabillion" times too big for him! LOL...were in the bag.
    He said he tried them on and immediately knew they were too big, but they somehow looked familiar. So he went and looked at himself in the mirror and said: "Pop! Get out of there!!!"...Oh, readers, if only you knew how funny this REALLY is!!! ^_^
    When he stopped fooling around and just stood there in these HUGE clown pants and suspenders (which he never really wears!...He bought them as a fashion thing for somebody's wedding years ago, and has worn them maybe twice!) he looked...EXACTLY like Pop!!!! LOL
     We were laughing hysterically!!! When did that happen...that he started looking exactly like his father?!...And for that matter, when did I start looking like my grandmother?!!! ^_^ Clearly, we need to get rid of all of the mirrors in this house so we can live in delusion...in peace!!! LOL
     And I'm going to start making more time for real fun...
     ...Playing cards!! ^_^ Especially now that I know the history of my favorite "Bicycle" brand playing cards,...which I also learned from an article in my Country Living magazine! {Yes, I'm still enjoying it! :-)} Maybe if I can occupy my hubby a little more, he'll stop jumping through doors and making me laugh so hard that......! Well, you get the picture! ^_^

Going Down Old Country Memory Roads

     I saw this photo on the blog and baby makes three. I almost stopped in my tracks because it reminded me so much of a road in my own home state of Georgia!  It's not though. This was one of the photos she took on a weekend trip in the Wichita mountains in southwestern Oklahoma. {You can find the rest of the story and the rest of the gorgeous photos HERE.} We have some long country roads just like this though. And now I'm all 'down memory lane' this morning.
   I think a lot of this memory lane stuff though is happening because of the new book I'm reading.
     Kathryn Stockett really has a way with words! I am so impressed with her style. I find myself reading with a southern drawl when I read it out loud! ^_^ I hope she doesn't mind me sharing a small excerpt from her book, so you can see what I mean...One of the characters in the book, Skeeter, (her mama prefers her real name Eugenia) comes from a well-to-do family. They have a black maid named Constantine who she loves very much. Here's an exchange to show you why she does!

"...THE FIRST TIME I was ever called ugly, I was thirteen. It was a rich friend of my brother Carlton's, over to shoot guns in the field.
   "Why you crying, girl?" Constantine asked me in the kitchen.
I told her what the boy had called me, tears streaming down my face.
   "Well? Is you?"
I blinked, paused my crying. "Is I what?"
   "Now you look a here, Eugenia"----because Constantine was the only one who'd occasionally follow Mama's rule. "Ugly live up on the inside. Ugly be a hurtful, mean person. Is you one a them people?"
   "I don't know. I don't think so," I sobbed.
  Constantine sat down next to me, at the kitchen table. I heard the cracking of her swollen joints. She pressed her thumb hard in the palm of my hand, something we both knew meant Listen. Listen to me.
   "Ever morning, until you dead in the ground, you gone have to make this decision." Constantine was so close, I could see the blackness of her gums. "You gone have to ask yourself, Am I gone believe what them fools say about me today?"
  She kept her thumb pressed hard in my hand. I nodded that I understood. I was just smart enough to realize she meant white people. And even though I still felt miserable, and knew that I was, most likely, ugly, it was the first time she ever talked to me like I was something besides my mother's white child. All my life I'd been told what to believe about politics, coloreds, being a girl. But with Constantine's thumb pressed in my hand, I realized I actually had a choice in what I could believe..."

   This book is soooo good! I'll just tell you that something has happened to Constantine. I'm just about to find out what it is in my next chapter or so...I think. That's going to captivate me for the rest of this day. Well....after I get all of my other stuff done and out of the way. You can just imagine how fast that's gonna be!! ^_^
   I got an email yesterday. It had a link to this post on the blog Mythreebeez. Guess what?! She received the Giveaway gift, the green and white afghan!! Boy was that fast!! I though it would take a couple of weeks because of having to go so far on it's international trip, but it only took 4 or 5 days!! These are the pictures of my "baby" now in it's new home! :-)
    You can go HERE to see her post about it if you like...It made me very happy to know she liked it. :-) Speaking of which, don't forget that every comment you make below is putting you in the running for my next GIVEAWAY, that is, if you're a follower of this blog...A picture and a link to the current Giveaway is on the right sidebar.
     Okay, I know how fast time flies by , {picture courtesy of Kerri on the blog A Little Piece of Me}
    ...so I'm gonna go and try to make the best of the rest of it I have today! Have a good day everybody! {I'm sharing an older poem today...in honor of Skeeter and Kathryn Stockett! :-)}
