Biscuits On The Brain!

https://www.etsy.com/listing/173825445/favorite-buttermilk-biscuits?ref=favs_view_4

I woke up hungry this morning. And 'no!', that's not big news. :-) That's not even 'surprising' news, considering that this is 'Pancake Sunday' and I usually start getting hungry for Sunday morning breakfast just as soon as I see that the weekend is almost here! ^_^
The difference today is that I woke up hungry, not for pancakes, but for my mother's homemade buttermilk biscuits!! O_O I could almost taste them!!...Why is this so strange, you ask?!...It's strange because I haven't had one of my mother's homemade buttermilk biscuits for over forty years!!!
But this morning I can see my mother in the kitchen, with her 'slide-on' bedroom slippers on her feet, and her waist apron...with flour all over it, from her wiping her hands on it. ^_^...And I see the can of 'Crisco' shortening, all white and looking like cake icing. :-)
She used to put self-rising flour in a big bowl, make a well in the center of it...to put the shortening and buttermilk in...And then mix it all together, drawing flour from the sides of the bowl as needed in order to make a big dough ball. After that came the rolling pin action...

...She would put flour lightly on the pin, and on her hands, and beat that dough to a soft, but floured, consistency. Then she would pinch off a certain amount in her hands, and roll it around until it was even and smooth. Then she would put the ball down on a greased cookie sheet.
After the pan was full of balls, at a measured distance from each other, she would mash them all down with her flat hand, leaving her three finger indentations on each and every biscuit! ^_^ When they baked in the oven they would rise a bit, turn golden brown, and smell absolutely delicious!!!
They came out of the oven, hot, brown, soft in the middle, and with a crispiness to the outside of them....YUM!!! Perfect for blackberry jam, syrup, sausage, melted cheese, etc...And that's what's in my brain this morning.....how much I sure could use some of my mama's homemade buttermilk biscuits this morning!...because I'm not in the mood for pancakes. :-)
No one made biscuits exactly like my mother. NOBODY! Not even her mother, my grandmother!...My grandmother's biscuits were fatter, and more evenly round. I often wondered if she used a cookie cutter, or something, to make them. :-] And as often as I ate her biscuits too, they never held a candle to my mama's.
Oh well!...I won't be having her biscuits today! And the only biscuits my husband knows how to make...come out of a Pillsbury Hungry Jack can!! LOL...They're good!!...especially how they bake with the layers of soft biscuit that you can peel off and eat!...but they still aren't the ones I grew up eating as a child!...

So much for nostalgia, and hunger! LOL I guess I'll just have to appreciate the spiritual food I'm gonna be filled up with today, and let that be that! ^_^ ... Next Sunday I may get into a whole conversation about syrup!! ^_^ You just never know with me!

What did you have for breakfast?! :-).........Have a good Sunday, Everybody!...And for those in this part of the world, dream of Spring! It has to be coming some time or the other!! ^_^

Quiet Sunday Morning

Quiet Sunday morning.
Flowers blooming in the yard.
Rain clouds overhead,
forecasting rain, but not too hard.

Quiet Sunday thinking.
All is well. No one is mad.
There's an easy state of being,
and a poem on my pad.

Quiet Sunday morning.
Music, chatting with my friends.
A perfect picture postcard,
or reality through my lens.

I Know I'm Feeling 'Under The Weather' When...

Look at this...'Pancake Sunday' and I'm feeling meh! O_O Or should I say 'under the weather'. How do I know I'm not feeling my best...besides the fact that saying 'Pancake Sunday' didn't make me all giddy?!
Well, I know I'm feeling under the weather when no matter how long I stare into it...

...there seems to be nothing in the fridge to eat.

And when my mind is not thinking about what I can create, or build next...

And when I don't feel like crocheting...

Well...maybe that's not completely true, because I ALWAYS feel like crocheting! But let's say...when I don't feel like 'getting involved' with my crocheting...like I did yesterday, when I made a new button brooch...

I also know I'm feeling 'under the weather' when tennis is on, but I haven't checked the day's draw, to see which matches I wanna watch!...Now you know  that's 'serious'!...especially during French Open time!! O_O

        Meh!

Maybe I need to go back to bed and then wake up and try it again!...Yeah. Let's try that :-] ... See you tomorrow...By the way, YOU have a better day, will ya!!

Easy...or Quiet...Like Sunday Morning!

Ahhhhhh! A quiet Sunday morning. :-] A time that I I thought could be perfectly captured by rabbitwhiskers scenic note card with the ducks swimming gently in the pond...Problem is...I don't know if the photo for this card was taken on a quiet Sunday morning!
So I decided to show you what a quiet Sunday morning in Holyoke Massachusetts looks like...minus the ducks and the pond. ^_^

The backyard was kinda dark when we first got up. We have rain in the forecast again....Booooooo....hisssssssss! LOL

But, even so, rain on the horizon or not, but with the sun coming up, and the new groomed look of the backyard (the landscapers did a great job!), all is well and quiet in Wugland. :-) ...

Hubby is scoping out the grounds and wondering whether 'garden central' is ever gonna get started this year!...

Although there is 'some' life popping up!...

Considering the goings on in other areas though, we're wondering if these little guys stand much of a chance! O_O
Last year, and the year before that, our flowering trees looked something like this around here...

...But unfortunately, even though they bloomed pretty for about a week, the rain, dropping temperatures, and, oh yeah, the snow!...they now look like this...

The fluctuating weather around here....cold rain, sunshine, snow, wind, hail, sunshine, more rain, etc...is wreaking havoc on people's moods, and on the flowers and plants...

But since it's mostly a state of mind for me, I'm liking my state of mind today. :-) Easy....relaxed.......well fed! "Thanks Honey!" :-)
And since we got some mail yesterday showing that we're gonna qualify for some financial help, I'm feeling even better! :-) It really will be a quiet Sunday morning..for my mind anyway, even if the rain is gonna make my body go crazy!....Bring it on!! ^_^
The winner of the Giveaway, by the way, is none other than Lisa, of Grimm and Grete Jewelry! :-) ...Congratulations Lisa! :-) Send me your info and I'll get it in the mail to you right away!...The next Giveaway is pending. So, just stay tuned.
Okay, I have a meeting this morning, and some things to do, so I have to get going. Have a quiet one, Everybody! :-)
