Let's Talk About Shepherd's Pie!

https://www.etsy.com/listing/98755804/cottage-pie-recipe-shepherds-pie-recipe?ref=favs_view_6

      I know what you''re thinking...You're thinking: "Wug, why are you talking about Shepherd's Pie when most people in your area are eating turkey today?!" ^_^
      Well, I'll tell ya!...The reason is because my husband made the best Shepherd's Pie ever last night!...Sooooo good!!...{Plus the fact that I don't celebrate Thanksgiving! Therefore, I'm not eating the traditional meal that everyone else is eating today...turkey...I'm one of Jehovah's Witnesses. (If you wanna know more about why we don't celebrate it, just email me and I'll talk to you about it.)}
       Hubby's recipe was not his own though. He made Rachel Ray's Southern Shepherd's Pie, with sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes!! :-) ...

https://www.etsy.com/listing/57912846/sweet-potato-flavor-oil?ref=favs_view_1

      If you've eaten Shepherd's Pie before, you know that it usually is made with lamb or ground beef, and has potatoes, onions, carrots, and sometimes corn and peas.
      But Rachel's recipe has other stuff!! :-) Besides being made with a combination of ground pork and beef, it also has cider vinegar, brown sugar, a banana, heavy cream, nutmeg, and flat-leaf parsley!
      And those still aren't the ingredients that gave hubby a mental struggle yesterday, trying to do this recipe justice! ^_^ The recipe also has parsnips!...

https://www.etsy.com/listing/128294940/2g-approx-800-parsnip-seeds-halblange?ref=favs_view_4

      Now, I think I've told you all before about my husband's coordination challenges when it comes to cutting up stuff! Imagine him trying to cut up parsnips that look like carrots, but aren't gonna be shredded with a potato peeler, but rather, cut up with a knife!...into thin chunks!! O_O
      The green peas were no problem. They were frozen!! LOL...Open box...dump in bowl! ^_^

https://www.etsy.com/listing/118718550/pea-meteor-pea-seeds-outstanding-dwarf?ref=favs_view_2

      But then there was the swiss chard!...*shaking my head*...Oh, the questions I got!!! ^_^ ...

https://www.etsy.com/listing/121495137/3g-approx-180-swiss-chard-seeds-rhubarb?ref=favs_view_3

      But...he did it! He cut that Swiss chard up perfectly! ^_^

      After a little arranging of sweet potato mixture up on top, and popping it in the oven, out popped the most delicious shepherd's pie ever!! ^_^
      I did forget to tell you about the hilarious incident with the zesting of one orange though! ^_^ Let me just say that some things need a visual!...and I'm thankful his zesting of an unwashed dirty-peeled orange didn't have a visual!! LOL YUCK!!...But typical of my husband, he didn't waste time trying to scrub down to a perfectly clean orange peel...which he couldn't do anyway, because he had a thin-skinned, not correct to use to zest, kinda orange anyway!! LOL {If you need some instructions on zesting an orange, here's some help --> HERE! ^_^}
      He went back to the store and bought thicker, more dimply skinned, oranges...came home and washed them!! ^_^ THEN he zested one like a big old chef...boy-AR-dee!!! LOL In the end...YUM!!!...I just had a tiny bit for breakfast too! ^_^ Who needs turkey?!! LOL
       Have a good day, Everybody! :-)

Struggle To Raise Your Head

Now, who am I to say
the way that others ought to live;
But my pep talk, to help you through,
I'm  motivated, now, to give.

The struggles of this system
are an alert-to raise your head;
To put one foot before the other,
and not lay down like you are dead.

Many things are just not fair.
They seem to happen just to you;
But is crying and complaining
all that you can find to do?

Use the logic of your mom-
who made you finish every drop,
and think of others who were hungry
for the food you left for slop.

In other words, just say
to yourself-when feeling bad:
"Look at all the other struggles
that the ones I love have had."

It doesn't  make it go away.
It doesn't  make your trials less real;
But it may make you raise your head,
and how you think,-and how you feel!

Just Because I Wanna Talk About It!!

     I had a subject that I was gonna share on the blog this morning, but that was before I woke up hungry. And before I got a phone call from my girlfriend who I haven't talked to in a long time!...Let me just stop right here and say: "I love my girlfriends!!!" :-]
     And after talking to my girlfriend, the thing I was gonna talk about....I don't wanna talk about any more!! In fact, all I want is some chicken friend steak and some flavored mashed potatoes with gravy!...Comfort food!
      This old world is doing a number on all of us, isn't it!!!! :-( It makes us thankful for the things we can find to smile about...like chicken fried steak, and mashed potatoes with gravy! :-)
         ...beautiful flowers!...

       ...good writing materials! :-) ...

       ...and good places to display things that make you smile! :-) ...

        Why did I talk about any of this today?!....Ohhhh...Just because I wanted to! ^_^ And...PROGRAMMING ALERT!...I may do the same thing tomorrow!! LOL Have a good day, Everybody! :-)

And Now...On With The 'Virtual' Day Talking!!

      The sun is out! It's Friday! And I'm feeling pretty good! :-) You know what that means!...plans!!....Plans about what colors I'm gonna use to make some more boutonnieres today!...and plans about where I'm 'virtually' going tonight with my hubby on our date! :-)
       The header photo tell you where my heart is this morning, right?! ^_^ GIVE ME SUNSHINE!!...and some water.....and something good to eat!!! :-) But I also need some music and something cool to look at!...

      And at the end of the day, a cool sunset wouldn't hurt either! :-]

      Before the date happens though, I've got some talking to do!...Yes, I know I'm already talking! LOL But I'm talking about 'other' talking...to friends and relatives and the like! ^_^ My father's brother-in-law passed away a few days ago. They buried him yesterday. :-( I wanna talk to my dad about what he's gonna do with himself now.
        His brother-in-law was his 'hanging buddy'. You know, the person he liked to hang out, play cards, and 'shoot the breeze' with (talk). What is my dad gonna do now, when he wants to get away from his house where they're driving him crazy?! O_O He won't have brother-in-law's house to hide out at anymore...*sigh*

        And just to update you, my girlfriend's surgery went well...Well, as 'well' as tongue surgery for cancer can go! :-( I just got off the phone from talking to her though, and there's more bad news this morning. :-( Not her health issue this time. It's one of her long time 'furry friends'...Her little doggie died this morning. :-(
      That old expression that says 'when it rains, it pours' is unfortunately very true! Good happens in spurts, and bad happens in bunches it seems!!...I'm sure that's not true in all cases, but in my experience....it happens like that waaaaay more than it should!!
     Anyway!!...on a good note, I was very worried that the doctors were gonna remove her ability to talk for a while, right along with the cancer! But she's good!! This morning we were able to talk about our faith, and about her little 'furry friend'...and shed a tear or two. :-( ...But unfortunately now she's in two different kinds of pain at the same time!....Ugh!...But I still have to be happy that SHE CAN TALK! That's a very 'good' thing! :-]

        Moving on!....I've also gotta do a little talking about another treasury one of my Wuglyees shop items got chosen for!...

      My crochet scalloped edge fingerless gloves 'snuck' (the past tense of sneak! LOL) right in there! ^_^ ...

      If you wanna see the full treasury, just click on it above!

      Oh Yeah!...These cute leaf earrings are in there too! :-) ...

       Okay, I'm done talking...for now! LOL I'm off to get a package shipped...YES! I sold something...2 days in a row!!! :-) Maybe the boutonniere trend 'isn't' over for good yet!!! ^_^ ... I also wanna apologize for putting the post up so late today, but sometimes people take precedent over the written word....SOMETIMES!!!! ^_^ This morning happened to be one of those times!...Have a good day, Everybody! And a good weekend!! :-)

The Rutabaga Story-PART 2......EEK!!

       Ahhhhhh!...Home sweet home!...Or at least that's the way it's suppose to be, right?! O_O That's the way it 'has' been for us...until now!.....RE-CAP: Hubby cooking rutabags for the first time.....boiling them on high under the built-in overhead microwave!......microwave smoking, fumes filling the house!.......fans employed to get the smoke out of the house.......deep breath....Ahhhhhhh!......But, as it turns out,  that was only the beginning of the story. O_O
       We called the repair guy to come over and check out the microwave. But before he came we wanted to clean out the cabinet above the microwave and move everything so he could get to it, or take it out of the wall to fix it, or whatever he was gonna have to do!
       Having a microwave mounted into the wall under a cabinet, and over a stove....NOT a good idea!!! But that's the set-up that was here when we moved in a couple of years ago...

      Although, as of today, I'm thankful that this microwave 'is' mounted all the way into the wall!!!...If you look in the photo you can see that there's only a can of red peppers in the cabinet over the stove. There was also a packet of gravy seasoning too. I don't know how it got in there! We don't generally keep things like that in open cabinets...Anywayyyyyyyy!...
      When hubby opened the cabinet to just make sure nothing was gonna be in the guy's way.....so he can get to the wiring..which you can see, right?!...he found the gravy seasoning packet......WITH HOLES IN IT AND CHEW MARKS!!!!!!! O_O ..*gulp!!*...He took a picture for me because I couldn't see in the cabinet, and because he didn't wanna touch it with his bare hands!!
       I'm gonna spare you the sight of it.......and the sight of the chewed electrical tape on the electrical cord with a trail of gravy seasoning going all the way to the hole where the cord came out of!!!!! O_O YIKES!!!...With the chewed up gravy seasoning and paper from the package everywhere, it looks like we have....and HAD....PLEASE LET IT BE 'HAD'!!!!....a mouse!

      I just saw a news report from our local station yesterday, talking about the influx of field mice in people's homes now that the cold weather is upon us! Not in my wildest dreams did I think one....I hope it was one!...*gulp*...would get into our house!
      Maybe that really was dreaming, because a few months ago one of our neighbors was complaining that he had to call the exterminator because he found a mouse in his house. He was sure it was from his next door neighbor who had just moved in...We didn't think too much of it. Hey! It wasn't our house! And I'm such a nut about not having food out anyway, that I didn't worry about it!
      When I was a kid in the south, bugs and critters were a problem. So I grew up getting laughed at by my adult friends for being such a nut about washing every single dish out of the sink before bed every night....drying sinks and counters like a crazy person....and for keeping flour and cornmeal and anything else that was crawl in-able, or chew through-able, in the refrigerator or in solid plastic containers!...Oh, how happy I am now, that I did!!! All that mouse could get into in here was that gravy packet!!...Stupid gravy packet!!!....Although I had hubby investigate every inch of the house to make sure there was no other evidence of mice!! :-] I shouldn't be too worried...Even my crochet projects are in plastic bins!! ^_^ ...Once bitten....twice shy!....Maybe that's not the expression I wanna think about right now! ^_^
       Anyway....we're getting a new microwave in a few days...Once they un-mount it from the wall they'll be able to see what's going on back there...where the hole leads to....and if.........if...*gulp!*.......I'm hoping they don't find a zapped mouse with little 'X'es on his eyes! LOL...And if they do, that they don't tell me about it!!!!...Yuck!!!..Let's hope there is no part three to this story!! O_O I want my home to stay a 'home sweet home'!!
       This story didn't go where you thought it would, did it?! ^_^ It didn't for me either!!!!...I could let it get me in a 'Whoa is me'...'why me?'....kinda mood. But instead I'm gonna think about how much worse other people are having it than worrying about a simple field mouse in their house..and I'm gonna raise my head!!!....Have a good day, Everybody!....But still, dry up your sinks and put your dry goods in a non-get-in-able place!!! :-)

Sleep...Everybody Is Doing It!

    "dream a little more"...That's the title of this print http://www.etsy.com/listing/47541050/dream-a-little-more by "selenavallejo" http://www.etsy.com/shop/selenavallejo?ref=seller_info on etsy. When I saw it I sat there and stared at how peaceful she looked. Wonder how long she's been asleep? Wish I could sleep like that! I guess by now you've figured out that I haven't been sleeping too good lately. I don't know what the whole problem is. I suspect that it's a combination of things. I'm going through "the change"...wish it would CHANGE already! LOL...Or it could be the weather. When it's about to rain or the humidity is going to be high, I get a lot of aching in my bones that keeps me awake.
    Hubby sleeps like a baby...and sometimes a snoring baby! Maybe that's contributing to my sleeplessness too. But whatever it is, it sure looks like everybody else is getting sleep, but me!
    Cats are sleeping...

Dogs are sleeping...

Boys and dogs are sleeping...

Ducks are sleeping...

Bears are sleeping...

Lambs are sleeping...

Even ships are sleeping!

So, what's it going to take for me to get some of that good old sleep?! I tried this...

...unfortunately that just led to my being up looking for something to eat to go with it!...FYI, 'Smartfood' popcorn works great!..........................Maybe I should try this...

...It couldn't hurt, right?! You can never have too many pillows!...My hubby would probably disagree. He has 3 flat pillows, and I have about 6...not including the large memory foam one that I use to prop myself up when I can't sleep and want to go on the computer or watch T.V.
   Maybe I should just get one of these ...

 So elusive, this thing called 'sleep'! I just want to look like this...

But...unfortunately, most of the time I look like this...

Do you have sleeping problems? Any suggestions?....Poetry?....Okay. :-))
