Cute!.......Funny!........True!!

(1,000,000 Artists on Facebook)

Sometimes people come up with the funniest things to tell a story. Sometimes they are things that they 'make up'. Sometimes they are things that they've heard about and that they embellish a little bit, to make the story a little more believable...Well, the story I'm about to tell you is not one you have to wonder about, as to whether it really happened. It did!...to my hubby!....just this Friday!
With all of the awful stories on the news lately...stories of people's homes being burned to the ground, of West Nile Virus victims, of a shooting at the Empire State building in New York, of the cyclist Lance Armstrong's medals possibly being taken away, and of Hurricane Isaac...

(Barahona, Domincan Republic...Hurricane Isaac coming from The Weather Channel on Facebook)

(Hurricane Isaac / Haiti, from The Weather Channel on Facebook)

...Yes, with all of that going on, I'm happy to be able to tell you a kind of funny and cute story today! :-) A story about two men out for a little walk in the neighborhood and then..... :-))

My husband and I, as many of you already know, are Jehovah's Witnesses. In that capacity, my husband and a friend of his were preparing to go door-to-door this past Friday, visiting the neighbors to encourage Bible reading and understanding.
My husband asked his friend what he was gonna be leading conversations with? His friend said he was gonna be offering free home Bible stories...which is something we do regularly. My husband said: "Great!" Then his friend asked my husband: "What about you?!"
I have to preface his answer by telling you that my husband's nature is to 'crack wise' or with a witty joke first, and then comes the serious. So he said:
"I'm gonna talk about miracles and how I need one!...LOL...because of the latest Watchtower magazine we got on miracles ("Miracles - Do they really happen?"). I'm gonna see if anyone would like a free copy of it."
His friend and him were still laughing as they turned to go to the car, when all of a sudden...

...something hit my hubby from above!....O_O.....Was it raining?!......No!...

My hubby reached up to see what this wetness was......You guessed it! ^_^ A bird, flying over head, pooped directly on my husband's nose!! ^_^

The two of them, as they were walking along, laughed hysterically...inside...that the people they were meeting had no idea that the man they were talking to had just be pooped on! ^_^ Some things are best kept from potential new friends! LOL...and when he came home and told me, I laughed hysterically...OUT LOUD! ^_^
I would like to have ended this story saying that hubby got to leave a ton of magazines with the neighbors. So everybody got their "Miracles" on Friday! But that would be 'making it up'. ^_^ Unfortunately, he didn't get to leave not even one magazine with anyone. Maybe next time...but HE got his miracle...sorta kinda!! LOL I mean, how often does a bird have a direct hit?!! LOL...Have a good day, Everybody!

 I Tell It All

What good's a secret from your friends?
How much of "YOU" do you shut out?
Do you tell them all you know,
or do you hide what you're about?

Do they know how much you argue,
or how much you really spend?
Do they know your real hair color?
Are they not that kind of friend?!

Do they know the way you laugh
when your giggle can't be stopped?
Do they know your honest feelings
after all your hair's been chopped?

Are they totally informed
of the size you really wear?
You might hide it from your in-laws,
but your 'Bestie' doesn't care!!

What good's a secret from your friends?
In a 'Fix' that's who you call!
Then they're gonna find you out!
Might as well just tell it all!

I'm Seeing Elephants Everywhere!

My post yesterday, the story of my chairs, was kinda heavy. So I decided to lighten things up today with a heavy story of a different kind...elephants! :-)) I've been seeing them everywhere, and I think they're so cute!
Of course an elephant clock would be my focal point this morning, considering that it's now 3:30 a.m.!! ^_^ But it's not a 'lack' of sleep this time. It's more like 'inopportune' sleep. I went to bed too early I think...a little after 9:00 p.m. And I slept straight through too...six whole hours!
So what if I woke up seeing elephants!....Are you trying to make something out of it?!! LOL

I'm not the only one seeing elephants either! Susan, of SusanD1408 Crochet Addict blog, did a post recently too on elephants --> HERE. She found even more things than I did! Though some of ours were the same...like the blue wall clock above, the pattern for this stuffed toy...

        ...and this jewelry...

What is the fascination with elephants all of a sudden anyway?!...I suppose I could ask myself that question, seeing as here I am at this hour of the morning doing a post about them! ^_^

     And just look at these!...

And then there is the photo of this decal being used (below)...It definitely has me re-thinking this being up at 3:30 a.m. thing! LOL...

It makes me yawn...*yawn*...just looking at it...I guess you know what that means! ^_^ It's back to bed for me!...*yawn*...Have a good weekend, Everybody! :-)

Weekend

Weekend Folderol;
Lollygagging, having fun;
Makes working up to Friday
worth the paperwork you've done.

Your job, all week, came first,
but now it's time for a little jaunt;
or to lay around the house
and just do nothing, if you want!

A little this. A little that.
A bit of fun had out of doors.
A little weeding in the garden.
And a little bit of chores.

Some weekend folderol,
all alone or with your friends.
Or some chit chat with your neighbors,
new acquaintances or kin.

A Weekend that's all planned,,
or simply finding things to do;
Because every Monday will be back
and you'll need something to look forward to!

Does Your Furniture Tell A Story Too?!

It looks like a simple chair, doesn't it?....well, set of chairs, because there's two of them. But they're not just chairs. They're little 'holders of a story'. And they've held that story for a long time. And now.....*sigh*.....what to do? What to do?! O_O

First let me tell you their story, and then maybe you can give me a little advice.

The story of these chairs is really the story of a friend of mine. A really nice lady who had a sad, sad life. She also had narcolepsy, and two impressionable sons she was trying to raise, in a household where her husband was extremely aggressive and abusive.

One day her husband decided that he no longer wanted to be with her, and he told her to leave. She was devastated! They had been married for many, many years. It hadn't been a good marriage, but she had found solace taking care of their home, and raising her boys, helping them become respectful and loving...to the extent she could anyway, under the circumstances.

When she told him that she wouldn't go anywhere without her sons, he beat her unmercifully and tossed her out the door. :-( She didn't have anything. Not her clothes, no money, no furniture, and not even her sons...Unfortunately, with narcolepsy, no skills, and no means to support herself or the boys, the law sided with leaving her sons with her husband. :-(

When I met her she was living in a tiny one room apartment that didn't even have a kitchen. She had a convection oven, a hot plate, a microwave...and a smile!...which, after I heard her story, was hard for me to understand!

She told me that after her husband tossed her out, her spiritual family had come to her rescue. She moved in with a family that lived nearby...so that she could keep an eye on her boys. She had no other recourse, at that point, anyway. And thankfully her husband was not abusive, physically anyway, with the boys. She had always been the one that was the target of his aggression.

Every day, when her husband went to work, she would go by and take care of things and talk to the boys...He became aware, at some point, that she was doing this, but didn't make a big deal out of it, also thankfully!...I think he must've needed the help and was just to mean to acknowledge it!

This situation went on like this for years until, one by one, her boys grew up, married, and left the home...Also during this time, she had gotten medication for her narcoleptic disorder, built up some self-esteem, and learned some skills to help her cope with her new life circumstances.

One day she went by when she knew he would be home. She wanted him to know that she was ready to move on. He had been saying he wanted a divorce for years and she had blocked his path every way she could. She told him that she wouldn't resist him anymore if he tried to get a divorce, and she asked if she could have a few personal things from the house.

He gave her her clothes and personal belongings right away, and said that if she came by with a moving van the next day he would let her have some of the furniture....a bed, sofa, dressers, etc...She was ecstatic!
But when she followed the moving van to the house the next day...all she found was these two chairs sitting in the driveway. O_O When she called him about it, he said that's all she could have...period!

She never really liked those chairs, and he knew it. But in this instance those chairs began to represent something much bigger to her...they began to represent that sometimes you have to just move on...that you can't force someone to feel for you in a way that you want them to feel, especially when they may not have the emotional wherewithal to do it! And they started to represent freedom.....acceptance of a new life...and strength!

So, how did "I" get the chairs?!...Well, she had taken these chairs with her everywhere she had moved to. But when she had moved into the small apartment where I met her, there was no room for them. There was barely any room in that apartment for HER! LOL So she had stored them at one of her sons' homes.
But there came a day when her son said the chairs were just in the way...and he said they were no good anyway!...By now he had nailed up the bottoms of them with wood even, to try to make them worthy of at least sitting in! But they still weren't all that great!...She didn't like that he had done that, but she didn't make a stink.
She couldn't bare the idea of them being thrown away though! So she asked me if I would hold onto them for her until she got a bigger place. I told her that I certainly would!...That was at least 18 years ago!

And as life happens, we've moved two or three times since then, far away from where she lived, and her and I, not being very very close friends, haven't kept in touch. But the story of her and her chairs has been with me the whole time!

Now, the chairs are battered and broken...having been moved around,...and moved around some more,...and having been sat in, and played in...and played on...by visiting friends, kids....and 'Baby Wuglyee' ^_^ for years now...I feel like it's time to let them go now, but I'm struggling with it because of their story. O_O

Just yesterday, I had hubby take the chair that's in the best shape over to an antique dealer to see if they had any value, and if I could maybe sell them to someone who would love them back to life! ^_^ But the dealer practically laughed my husband out of the shop! He said they were from the 50s or 60s, but they had no value whatsoever. He suggested...well, never mind what he suggested!! LOL

With our current situation, we really can't afford to have them re-done. I think they would be beautiful if they were. And  we don't have room for them in here anymore either...*sigh*...What to do?! What to do?!....At the moment they're making a nice place for 'Baby Wuglyee' to take a nap! :-] ....Does anybody want some chairs?!...No, really!...If you do, give me a call....They tell a story! How many pieces of furniture can do that?! :-)

Truth is....practically all of my furniture does!! ^_^ But I'll save the story of my wooden floor model TV, my heavy blue entertainment center, and my oak dresser with the missing sister piece, for another day. :-)) ...Have a good day, Everybody! (By the way, I apologize to those of you who are used to me putting up an earlier post. Blogger was being a real stinker today!! Grrr!)

I Love To Tell A Story!

Don't pay me any attention
when I scoff at this or that.
I love to tell a story!
Even the wanderings of a gnat.

If somebody breaks a nail,
(all the gory details left out)
I love to tell the story!
Really, what is that all about?!

I'm even ready for a saga
if a trip somewhere is planned.
I love to tell a story
about bad food and parking bans!

I just love to tell a story!
It's a lifetime love of words.
And a wordless Wednesday blog?
Around here, that's for the birds!

Things That Made Me Go...WOW!

Usually, these days, when I use the word "WOW!" I'm talking about a photograph of something that took my breath away. Case in point, look at that gorgeous header photo I'm sharing today!..."WOW!"...The mountains are gorgeous, but so is the creative eye of the photographer!...One day I'm gonna take gorgeous photos like that and embark on a new career and never crochet or write again!...WOW! What was that?!...I think it was a pig...flying! LOL
Okay, back to reality! ^_^ ...Just so you know, things that make me go "WOW!" are different from things that make me go "Hmmmmmm!" Case in point, I did a blog post a while back with facts about me that might make people go "Hmmmmmm!" I just re-read it and made myself laugh out loud...because a lot of the things I mentioned then are even more true today than when I wrote them! ^_^ You can see that post HERE if you want.
Anyway, the things that made me go "WOW!" yesterday are...ONE: A phone call I got out of nowhere...TWO: A convo (like email) I got on Etsy. (Both of which I'll tell you about in a minute)...And THREE: these...

Are you sitting in front of the computer screen...staring...and mouthing the words "WOW!" right now?!....I did too! :-] ... I'll say again what I always say: "People are so creative!" And talented!!...Meanwhile I can't even figure out how to look at my Facebook page correctly anymore! Ugh!...That's a story for another day though...By the way, does anybody "Like" my "Wuglyees" Facebook page now...HERE...besides me, I mean?! :-))

Now, on to the other two 'Wows'. :-) ...The phone rang yesterday while I was in one of my frazzled states...I woke up VERY late and was trying to focus myself to get my blog up. My hubby picked it up and handed it to me. I don't know why. He knows better than to try to get me to think AND converse at the same time! ^_^
The person on the other end of the line said they were coming over... O_O ...I told them that wouldn't work for me, and I hung the phone up.  Hubby said: "Who was that?!"...then I realized.....I didn't know! LOL He said: "It sounded like your sister!"...."Really?...Was it my sister?!"...He didn't know. LOL...After hitting redial....well, after hitting redial the second time....*the first time he redialed someone we had just talked to earlier...on purpose! LOL*...he found out that it was indeed my sister!...WOW!
It's been a very long time since my sister called me. And an even longer time since she's said anything about coming to visit!! I'm kinda sorry I couldn't see her yesterday...but we have plans to visit soon...WOW!

The other wow is a customer convo-ing me on Etsy to find out if I have any more of a certain kind of lapel pins...He searched through my SOLD section and saw the one he wants!!..WOW!...Okay, it's official I'm in the boutonniere/lapel pin making business. I need to stop trying to pedal my crochet necklaces and scarves!! LOL...Look for a BIG HALF OFF sale coming soon! :-) I need room for my boutonnieres and lapel pins people!!

WOW! Look at the time!!...Have a good day, everybody! :-)

Catching Up

I see life from my perspective.
And it's always a full cup.
I rarely see the glass half empty.
I don't let much interrupt.

But now I find this needs a change.
I have some catching up to do.
I have some things that need updating.
And some family bonds to glue.

Some things have lagged unmercifully.
They need some tweaking, not too much.
Just need to get back some perspective..
Get some family lines in touch.

This catching up will be wide ranging.
Out with the old, in with the new.
But when you're catching up with people,
there's still some old when you're all through.

Catching up sometimes is tiring.
Maybe that's why I've been waiting.
And, besides, when I'm all done,
there seems there's more that needs updating!

It's Not Easy Being Green...Or Waking Up!

I love it when I find something on Etsy that looks just like me! :-)) ... Yep! This cute little felt pin looks just like me this morning...all wide eyed...and green!...More correctly I should say that this is how I feel NOW. I didn't feel like that the first time I woke up, at 2:30-ish a.m., but I made the mistake of thinking I would lie back down and get a few more winks. You know, a little 'cat nap' after the big sleep! ^_^ I woke up at 8:00 a.m., and all out of sorts!
The truth is, I didn't feel that great when I went to bed last night. I had a pain in my tummy for some reason. I think that's why I woke  up so early. I haven't woke up early for a long time now! I've been sleeping pretty good...Well, 'pretty good' being for the 'long time' of about two weeks or so....That's what I call a long time, with my old lady sleep issues! ^_^
Now I'm feeling all 'green'...and like I need to go back to bed, and reset the clock.  I'm so out of it that it feels like I woke up with Alice...in Wonderland somewhere! ^_^

The only good thing is that I woke up to a sale in my Wuglyees shop!...

I sold one of my crocheted 'sack' hats!...the white one.

That was a good thing...even for a second time waking up! ^_^ ... Now I'm off to put my 'green', queasy, sleepy self to some kind of good. And Oh Yeah, I "do" have stuff to do!!!! As a matter of fact I'd better write it down before I forget some of it!...Where's my green pencil?! ^_^

Now let me see...is there any need for a poem today?! ^_^ If there is one below, you'll know the answer! LOL Have a good day, Everybody!

No Need For A Poem

There's no need for a poem
about the love that we both share.
No pretty words about our life,
our great affection, loving care.

No need for poetry of how
I've loved him since I was a kid.
No, there's no need for such a poem,
but I guess that I just did!

Friends Come In All Shapes And Sizes!

This post was inspired by Sinatra, the pitbull dog, and Maurice, the hummingbird. :-) ...In her description of the photograph that I'm sharing as my header photograph today, Tricia Meteer, owner of the Etsy shop equinoxphoto, says that Maurice, the hummingbird, has the strange habit of coming in the house to visit her while she's working in her studio. She says he loves to buzz over as she's editing pictures on her computer.
On the particular day that's photographed above, he finally left, took a break on the window and then proceeded to have a conversation with Sinatra, the pitbull. :-))
Tricia speculated that Maurice was trying to sell Sintara on the benefits of vegetarianism...and Sinatra was not convinced! :-)) She says this "conversation" between the two of them went on for about 20 minutes, and that it just goes to prove that friends come in all shape and sizes!! :-) ...I agree! Friends do come in all shapes and sizes!

Thanks to Tricia, Sinatra and Maurice I can now tell you what's been going on here in my very own backyard without sounding like some kind of a nut! :-] ... I think hubby and I may have become hummingbird whisperers! :-)) Or else, the hummingbirds have adopted us as pets! ^_^ ...(By the way, none of these hummingbird photos are from our actual backyard. They just happen to be photos I found on Etsy that mirror the goings on in my backyard.)

I told you a little while back, and shared an actual video to prove it...HERE...that I have a hummingbird that shows up to watch tennis with me. :-) ...Well, there's no tennis on television really nowadays, but he's still coming!....and now he's bringing, what I think is, his 'lady-friend'. :-)
I thought that it would get close to the end of this month and we'd be shutting down the hummingbird feeder, but instead we're putting new nectar in it more regularly!...Well, hubby is. I'm watching him do it from the window...like Sinatra, the pitbull! :-))

The 'nutty' part is that when the feeder is getting low, the hummingbirds come to the window and tell us!...No kidding!...They hover in front of the window, going up ad down, left and right, tipping their heads as if they're wondering if we can see them. They do it over and over until hubby goes outside to get the feeder to refill it! :-]
Even more amazing is that, while hubby is walking to and from the feeder, they come right down near his face and shoulder, and buzz him, and 'hover-fly' in escort, while he's walking!!!! ^_^ ...I wish I could get some footage of it to show you, but my camera is not that good....and neither are my photographic skills!! LOL You'll just have to take my word for it!
I'm convinced that one of these days hubby is gonna have these hummingbirds sitting directly on his shoulders, and eating right out of his hands!

If that happens, and they're actually sitting still long enough, Oh Yes! Trust and believe!...I'll get a picture!! LOL...Until then, the only stillness I see of the hummingbirds is sorta like this  shot below...They sit on the tree branch near the feeder in the evening...all peaceful like. :-)

That's the same way I'm sitting here right now! :-) But I need to 'hover-fly' this sedentary shape of mine! I've got lots of things to do today!!...Have a good day, Everybody! :-)

Free As A Bird

Been all cooped up.
No, haven't stirred.
Been on lock-down.
Weighing every word.
But I want to be free!
...Free as a bird.

Been sitting still.
My mind all blurred.
Time moving slow.
Nothing has occurred.
But I want to be free!
...Free as a bird.

Been a good girl.
Don't care what you heard.
On 'How To Be'
I could be referred.
But I want to be free!
...Free as a bird.

I almost lost my grip.
That's why my speech was slurred.
A little teary? Yes.
My words now ungird.
Happy to be free!
...Free as a bird.
