What Will You Do On This Saturday?!

I was gonna start this post out by telling you all about my 'virtual date', but since that's a 'crossroads' tale...I decided to pass. ^_^ Instead I'll just let you know that it involved some quiet time...and some music...Stevie Nicks (of 'Fleetwood Mac') and Lady Antebellum to be exact! :-)
Now it's the day AFTER the 'virtual date'. Now What?! O_O ... I know! I'll tell you what I'll be doing today!...

     Having a 'cuppa'...green tea, of course! :-) ...

Maybe I'll write a few letters, or a poem or two. (It has been a while!) ...

Maybe I'll make some jewelry...I sure have enough beads!!...

...I've got plenty yarn and stuff too!...in case I decide to crochet some jewelry...

But before I go off to do.....to do......SOMETHING! ^_^...I wanna thank Anne for the ability to tell you what I'll be doing this Saturday! :-) I used a bunch of the items that she chose for her 'Colors Of The Sea' Etsy Treasury (below)! :-) ...

Thank you, Anne! :-) ... And thank you for including my 'already crocheted' car button necklace!! :-) ...

So...what are you bloggers doing on this fine Saturday?! :-)

That Something Different

I like things that are different.
Things that somehow catch my eye.
Things not quite 'Just The Same'.
Things that make me want to buy.

I can't put my finger on it
as to why they move me so.
They're not whimsical or gory;
And not lavish. This I know.

Sometimes it's just their color.
Other times it's how they're worn;
Or Sometimes it's just how beautifully
they're painted, sewn, or torn.

With 'Different' as the gauge,
it could be most anything.
I guess that's why I keep on looking.
Hoping for that 'Different' zing.

When I find that 'Something Different',
I'll pay cash or click or dial;
Or I may just show it off;
(Like I just did) and sit and smile.

Greetings!...From Saturday...And From Snow!

As you can see, I found another owl! :-) And it's a really pretty one too, isn't it?!...It's the kind of owl that could keep on giving, because you could write someone a nice letter and send it to them, and they could read it over and over...owl-style! :-)
I have a few cards like that. Ones that I read over and over again I mean. They don't have owls on them though. :-) Some do have birds! That's because my friends and family know I'm kind of a bird and flower lover...Well, they know I have a 'few' loves! But birds and flowers are definitely close to the top of the list! LOL
Speaking of birds...all of my backyard birdies have flown the coop for the morning. I should've known something was up when I didn't hear their usual ruckus in the tree early this morning! But I didn't think about it that much until I opened the window and saw this!...

Yep!...It snowed again last night...In fact, it's gonna snow off and on for a while this morning too...

The good thing is that it's only suppose to be, at the most, a couple of inches...And it's suppose to be warming up a little later. So, this little bit of snow will probably disappear by the end of the day!...Hopefully!

I guess I better keep my hats in my Wuglyees Etsy shop for at least a little while longer! :-) ... Not only because of the weather...but also because of the potential for my hats to end up in treasuries!!...like this one!...

 (Treasury curated by Sandra Kiselenko)

It's was a nice surprise to wake up to...having my hat be in Sandra's treasury! :-) ...

It was nice to see something 'gray' look kinda 'good'!...Not like the 'not so good-looking' gray skies around here lately! ^_^ ... A good-looking gray hat...among good-looking gray hats (see below) and other things in this lovely treasury too!...

Okay!...Greetings to all of you Saturday 'venture-outerers'! ^_^ Enjoy the snow!...But if you can't enjoy it, Happy Saturday anyway!...whatever you end up doing! :-) I have a plan this morning for some things to do. I hope my mind and fingers let me bring them to fruition! :-) If not, I'm gonna be happy just sitting quiet!...Sometimes noise is over-rated! LOL

Sitting Quiet

I love just sitting quiet,
letting silence be my friend.
I'm not afraid to be alone,
and hear my breathing out and in.

With no T.V. on, or music,
just some thinking done, with me,
In a world where quiet reading
is now called "activity".

There's no reason to be scared,
or to need all kinds of noise,
to create some kind of chaos,
or to look for games and toys;

Just a quiet low lit room,
where I ponder my life course,
where I think of plans ahead,
but no thoughts I have to force.

Just me, still, and sitting quiet.
Nothing altering my mood.
No smoke wafting at my sinus,
no one mad or being rude.

Can you turn off all the gadgets?
Can you hear your own self sigh?
If you cannot take the quiet,
You should stop and wonder why!

Green...In Treasuries And In Marriage!

Happy Monday, Everybody!...or is it Tuesday where you live?! ^_^ Whatever the case, Happy, Happy!! :-) Let's make the beginning of this week get off to a good start, shall we!...I'm gonna do my part. I'm gonna share my weekend happiness with you! :-)
My weekend happiness has to do with a well thought out conclusion I came to over the weekend. It has to do with marriage...I even wrote a new poem about it. It's at the end of this post....NO!...I don't want you to scroll down there yet!!! LOL...First let me share something else that made me happy this weekend!...

My little crochet necklace was chosen for a cute treasury full of my favorite color...green! :-)

       Happy, happy! :-)

And here are a couple of my favorite items from the treasury, besides the earrings in the header photo I mean...

Now...the happy conclusion I came to over the weekend is that I'm happy to be a long time married person! ;-) ... I wouldn't go back to being a short time married person if you paid me!!!
I'm not gonna get into the particulars, but let me just say...newly married people have so much energy!...passion!...emotion!...anxiety!...anxiousness!....Aargh! LOL...Of course they, being short time married people, think it's great! They don't see anything wrong with all of that 'what-are-we-gonna-do-next? Where-are-we-gonna-go-now?' energy!...but as long time married people, hubby and I get tired just watching them navigate the world! LOL
It's sometimes hard for hubby and I to believe that we used to be like that! We used to bounce from event to event, gathering to gathering...we used to get very upset at the slightest seeming sideways comment...we used to celebrate everything as an anniversary {the anniversaries of our first kiss, our first hand-hold, our first car ride, our first long talk, etc...}...we used to think that no one on the planet loved each other as much as we loved each other! ugh!...we were sickening!!! ^_^
I was reminded of all of that angst this weekend....and reminded how thankful I am that we're not back in it anymore!!! ^_^ ... All due respect to newly married people. We 'do' get it! You love each other!!! And we're so happy to see true love in the world, but WOW!!! We can't wait to see what you're like at year ten...or twenty!...when you finally realize that just because your husband doesn't finish your every word, or your wife doesn't wanna fix your favorite dish at every meal, that doesn't mean that your love is dying!...ugh! LOL
At 30 plus years hubby and I are more deeply in love than we ever were! But I still don't think his toenails are cute, and he doesn't love the way I smell early in the morning....Shoot us! LOL...Making sure we hold hands when other people are around is not a priority, and making sure we never argue about ANYTHING is not even close to being what we aspire to! Sometimes an argument is necessary!...We just don't get into calling names or bringing each other's 12-toed relatives into it!! LOL
As I said...Ahhhhh! The Happiness!!....I was never so happy to see a Monday come!!! LOL...Have a Happy Monday, Everybody!...And you short time marrieds....bring it down a notch for us old timers, will ya!! ^_^

The Long and Short Of It

Long time marriage is not the same as
those just married for a year.
Short time marriages are fearless.
An easier said: "I'm outta here!"

Long time marriages are fearful,
but not of who is gonna leave.
They're more fearful of cleaned closets,
and what clothes their spouse will heave.

Short time marriages are passion filled.
Everything is 'do or die'!
Anniversaries are epic,
usually a feasting for the eye.

Long time marriages are quieter.
Life's a journey. Not a ride.
Their mate's faults, inconsequential.
But their stories, deep and wide.

Short time marriages 'Go! Go! Go!'
Always planning what's next to do.
An excited bride is always learning,
and the groom is learning how to please his 'boo'.

Long time marriages are more settled.
there is nowhere they 'HAVE TO' be.
And if someone else thinks so,
just try to 'Make 'Em' and you'll see!

Don't get me wrong, there's clearly love
in both the short and the long of it.
But the way that they approach it?
Yeah, it varies quite a bit.

Short time lovers, and their in-laws,
wonder how it's gonna go.
Long time lovers know that wonder,
like their in-laws, ebb and flow.

Short time marrieds, always seeking,
feel everything is on the line.
Long time marrieds know they'll make it,
and are just seeking where next to dine!

You Know You're Really Getting Old When......!

No, the portrait in the header photo doesn't have anything to do with getting older. :-) It actually caught my eye because I could see the talent in the artist's color choices and drawing ability...such as I see it, not being an artist myself! :-) But it did spark a conversation between hubby and I about whether she looked like me when I was younger! :-)
Hubby thought the portrait model reminded him of Whitney Houston, not me. ..Hmphf!...And I almost changed my schedule for our 'Friday Virtual Date Day' to take him to Tahiti or Hawaii!!...You know where we're going now, right?!...Dumpster diving!! LOL
Anyway!!...It also sparked some further conversation about how you can know when you're getting old. We listed 10, but trust me...unfortunately there were plenty more!! ^_^ ...I'll share the 10 with you while I share some of the photos from a recent treasury my shawl was listed in...

How do you know when you're really getting old?

1. When your sometimes working reading glasses are the only thing between you and the old lady squint that your grandmother used to have!

2. When every time you make a move, it now is accompanied by a noise...that surprising YOU made!!

3. When elbow wrinkles and dark liver spots become interesting conversation.

4. When the only counting you want to do involves gray hairs and crow's feet lines.

5. When being "regular" doesn't have anything to do with a personality trait, a gym schedule, or a midday nap?...But it 'does' involve fiber, green vegetables and water!

6. When your sure and cool gait, or strutting walk, reverts to that of a wobbly baby, slows down, and includes fear of bumping into things, or not having something to hold onto!

7. When talk of "strays" doesn't involve feral cats, but instead a pair of tweezers and nose clippers.

8. When a room full of contented elderly people at lunchtime looks more like a field full of cows chewing their cud.

9. When there's more hair on the top of your knuckles and toes than there is on the top of your head!

10. When getting out of bed in the morning is motivated more by having to feed the cat, or having to go to the bathroom, than the excitement of your day's schedule.

And 'this' old 'Wug' lady being who she is, you probably know how much I wanna go back to bed and get another "nap" right now!! ^_^ But I won't!...I've got some crocheting to do, and some more conversation to have with my hubby. I'm gonna give him a chance to re-talk about that header photo!
Maybe in the time I've been writing this post he's given it a little bit more thought, and now thinks...in retrospect...she looks an awful lot like me when I was young. He probably doesn't know how he didn't see it before!! LOL...Yeah, I know Tahiti will have a lot to do with his change of mind, but whatever!! He'll get what he wants, and I'll get what I want!! ^_^ After 30 years, what more could two old people want?!!
Have a good day, Everybody!! :-]

Everything Is Getting Older

Everything is getting older,
past it's time, and rusting fast!
No matter how many times you oil it,
Somehow, still, it doesn't last.

Everything is getting older.
Even veggies just from the store,
have now browned and withered up.
They're not all shiny like before.

Everything is getting older.
Old dogs included, people too.
Even babies, from the womb,
start getting older, just past brand new!

Everything is getting older,
like real good books, with tales all told.
But, Wait a minute! Some books are good!
That's why "To read" will not get old.

Everything that's getting older
doesn't harm us and displease.
Just think of wisdom in the aging-
that's with people and with cheese!

All the things, those getting older,
showing marks and scars of time,
just need a tad bit more attention,
or just a small aged glass of wine!

Treasured Eye Catchers!

(Treasury curated by Alex L)

Instead of pouring out my feelings about the burial of the Sandy Hook Elementary School students, or all of the other crazy sad news lately, I'm choosing to share some other things that caught my eye and distracted me away from watching the news to the point of numbness. :-( ...As a side thought, I don't know how in the world any parent would be able to handle this kind of situation without knowledge and support! :-(
Anyway.....my little chocolate brown, white, and blue crochet lapel pin suit boutonniere was chosen for the treasury...

...along with some other cute items, like this...

      ...and this!...

There's some other really cute items in the treasury too. Just click on the above photo of the treasury to go over and check them out!

I wanted to show you a few other eye-catchers that I came across that WEREN'T in the treasury!...

This large poster print of the trees by DUEALBERI caught my eye...maybe because it looks sorta like my backyard! :-)

And this Royal Haeger 22k Gold Tweed Vase, and Pair of Pheasants (below), from TimandKimShow caught my eye because......Well, just because!! ^_^ It's birds, and a place for flowers! What's not to love?!...

And last, but not least, was this eye catching Embroidered Linen Lace from cottonholic...

I don't know where I'd use it...but even if I didn't use it anywhere it would be pretty to look at and run my fingers across! :-) ... Have I told you about my love of lace?! :-]

Okay, breakfast and some shipping is calling. I'll be back tomorrow with......SOMETHING!! ^_^ Have a good day, Everybody!...and keep those eyes in good shape!

Eyes

We take our eyes for granted
until some 'boo boo' mars our view.
Then we find ourselves short-sighted
with less things that we can do.

The thought of losing sight,
and seeing life just like before,
is scary, and can shake our confidence
right to the core.

To make our eyes feel better
we would do most anything.
Some eye salve or a hot pack,
even ointments that will sting.

To, every day, appreciate
the eyes that help us see
(and keeping those sharp objects
out of their proximity),

That's what we should be doing,
give those 'Peepers' some respect!
Especially since they get it
when we're sticking out our neck.

"Heavy, Wet and Mashed Potato-Like......"

Oh! If only it were just rain!! But nooooooooo! Overnight the backyard was blanketed with the kind of snow that the weather lady referred to as 'heavy, wet and mashed potato-like'! Great! That's just what I wanted in my backyard!...Snow potatoes!.....NOT!!
We knew this storm was coming though. That's all the weather people have been talking about for about a week!...{They get so excited when there's something besides puffy clouds and sunny skies around! LOL}...So, since we knew it was coming, hubby took some photos of the backyard 'pre' storm...

Not very exciting, right?! :-) But what it looked like then is nothing like what it looks like now!...What it looks like now is sorta like a mountain resort location. Somewhere you might wanna go on a vacation to go skiing, or snow-shoeing, or snow-mobiling or something!...See!...

All we need now is some pretty snow Parkas (coats), puffy gloves, some knit ski hats,...and skis, ^_^...a ski lodge made of logs, with a huge fire in the fireplace, and an 'on call' waiter that's dedicated to toting hot chocolate and hot toddies to us all day! ^_^
I say 'all day' because it's still snowing! And it's suppose to continue 'all day'! And it's suppose to freeze some too!...But guess what?! I'm not gonna say 'UGH!' or 'Aargh!' or anything like that...because I just saw the news and saw that the seven states in the mid-west got a slew of tornadoes last night...I think the news said 80 of them!! :-( The damage is terrible!!!...especially in Harrisburg Illinois!...And they're not outta the woods yet, because they're due to get the same thing today!!! O_O ...Soooooo, a backyard full of snow doesn't seem so bad in comparison!

Okay, enough about the weather! Let me tell you about a couple of other things. One being my blue and red crochet necklace...

It got chosen for a new treasury!...

According to Barbara Gene, of BagsnBling, it's one "item from one of my favorite shops"....Thank you Barbara. :-) ...You can click on the treasury photo above to go over and check out all of the great items she chose if you like. I liked this one...

It's a handbag...with flowers! Is there any wonder that it caught my eye?! :-]

My other news is announcing the winner of the Giveaway for today! :-) It was so hard wading through all the entries!... ^_^ Ha! If I was a sensitive sort my feelings might've been hurt at the fact that here I am giving away a book of my poems and I only got five entries. And of those five, there were only three individuals! LOL
But I'm not the sensitive sort. I'm realistic. I know that not a lot of people are into poetry these days....and even less people are into reading a book of poetry! ^_^ So to those of you who entered the Giveaway....Thank You So Much For Making Me Feel Appreciated. :-) ...Now, the winner?!...

It's YOU Cindy!! :-) I'll send it out to you right away...And because there were only two others...Becky and Velma...Guess what?! I'm sending you books too!!!! :-) Just send me your addresses please, to the email here

Now, this month's Giveaway, for March 15, 2012, will be kinda different. This one is a thank you from me to you 300...301 as of today!...followers!! :-) Since I can't wrap you up in a big hug and say...in person...what a pleasure it's been swapping stories with you, then I want to send one of you something that "will" wrap you up! It's a soft, soft, charcoal gray and green afghan lap blanket that I crocheted myself! :-)
Remember now.....my photo-taking skills are not that great!!!...

I'll put another couple of photos, and the size and description of it, on the right-hand sidebar link a little later today.
The rules for entering the Giveaway are different this time because for this one you just have to comment! For the next couple of weeks, all comments will become entries in the Giveaway for the afghan...unless you specify that you don't want to be entered.

Lastly, a quick update: As of yesterday, hubby is filing for unemployment. A lot of paperwork and tedium, but necessary stuff. After talking it over with his representative, it became clear that games are afoot with his company. After all of the not so nice things that his manager,...boss, or whatever his title is....said,..including the fact that he didn't want him working there anymore...apparently he said to the representative yesterday that he was 'surprised' that my hubby is taking the position he's taking to ask for his vacation time and to be able to file for unemployment!....Really?!!....Surprised?! O_O
What did they expect for him to do?! Say,..."Oh, I'm sorry. I'll come back to work and work all day long and kiss your feet and ring finger, sacrifice my wife's health and dedicate my life to this company. I was only kidding about all that stuff I said!!" O_0...Kinda unrealistic considering the fact that hubby was pushed into making this decision in the first place by unfair working conditions and broken promises!....Whatever. It's apparently done now. All of the paperwork is going in today....if hubby can get past the piles of snow to get to the mailbox that is! ^_^
I'm not gonna think too deeply about it. I'm just gonna crochet! :-) I'm almost done with the second fingerless glove even!...

         Sorry that the post was so full today, but I've got other stuff to show you tomorrow, and a 'Virtual Date Night' to plan. I didn't wanna leave any of this till later. :-] So, have a good day Everybody!!...Leave me a comment and tell me all about YOUR weekend plans. It's a Giveaway entry too, don't forget! ^_^ {And believe it or not, the poem below was from last year! ^_^}

Snow TRAPPED!

TRAPPED! Another snow storm!
Will this "STUFF" never end?!
We've be wolloped, punched, and socked,
and now?! Another one on the chin!

'Adding insult to the injury',
there will be an inch of ice!
I guess winter thought we needed
just a little 'SCARY' spice!

Do I sound bitter? Sick of it?
About to lose my snowed-in mind?!
Well, that would be correct!
That is, the brain cells I can find!

TRAPPED! Sick of snow,
and it's icicles everywhere!
Good thing I have crochet!
It will replace my pulled out hair!

      On a side-note, I can't believe we're down a 'Monkee'. :-( Davy Jones died of a heart attack yesterday!!
