I love the name and feel of a lot of your blogs! But even though I love the names, I don't totally "get it" as to what some of the names mean. Maybe you guys can help me understand today! :-) For instance, abby try again. I love the blog, but what are you 'trying again'?! Was there another blog before this one, or another.....something?! {I'm a new follower. :-))}
There are some names that just make simple sense, like We Blog Artists. I "get it"! There's more than one of you, and you're artists! (Wonderful artists too, by the way.) It's totally understandable to me without needing a lot of explanation. Your name says it all!...Baking My Way Through Germany...and Facing 50 With Humour...same thing! The names say it all!...But Flight of the Pook....while I LOVE, LOVE your blog, the name...Uhhh...has me in a bit of a quandry. LOL
The photos I'm about to show you, including the header photo, will explain the inspiration for the name of my blog. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my backyard!!!
It's a calm and spacious, happy, open place that I want to invite everyone to! You can come and just run and play and have a bit of fun...which I also do with my writing on occasion.
You can lay on your back and watch the sky, pondering deep and meaningful things...which I do with my writing, more often than you want me to probably! LOL
You can be here when new growth happens...
...new growth on the literal ground, or new growth as I, Poetesswug, learn every day how to do this thing called "life" a little better!
Or you can just hang around waiting for hummingbirds to show up! :-)
How do you like the new hummingbird feeder hubby just put up?! :-)
I love it!! It's right outside the window, bringing color...and flowers...to the backyard! :-) I've been staring at it for two days now. I haven't seen a hummingbird in sight! Someone told me that it could be because it's not sunny or warm enough yet. So, I just have to be patient. New England weather isn't hummingbird weather...at least not yet. Especially not this week! The weather map says 5 straight days of rain are due this week!!....UGH!...Whatever!! The backyard can take it!!
And my Backyard Blogspot can take it too! I love to complain about, or tell the joys about, or write a poem about, RAIN...among other things!!! ^_^ It's all TALKING!!!...Speaking of poems, I'll leave you one in a different way today...with backyard accompaniment! LOL Have a good day everybody! And don't forget to tell me what inspired your blog name!
I love what inspired you to write your blog! A backyard is a retreat. A place to go to relax, take a nap, study, or just to sit and listen to the sounds of nature! I love mine too!
ReplyDeleteLove the hummingbird feeder! As a rule, we don't see hummingbirds till around the 11th of May. I put mine out early when its been warm, but not this year.
Hope you see one soon!
Hahaha your poem got me laughing! :D
ReplyDeleteAnd wow, your backyard is soooo green already and such big leaves too! :O Our leaves are only trying to come out. Thankfully the grass is growing already and looks nice :) ...or should I say "that darn grass is growing again" because I have to start mowing it soon?! LOL I'll stick with the "thankfully" this time ;)
P.S. There is no confusion with my blog name ;)
CinLynn, Thank you my friend! But who wouldn't be inspired by a calm, open, green, space...with flowers and a hummingbird feeder, huh?! LOL You know!! It's reminiscent of the space our very first parents must have had....but without the barbecue grill. LOL
ReplyDeleteMariann, :-)) I'm glad you liked my short poem! The hummingbirds inspired that one...As to the grass, I know what you mean about the mowing. Thankfully we have someone that does ours. We don't have to mow anything. Just look at it! :-)... And you're right about your blog name. Nature photography is self-explanatory! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm quite certain I could live in your backyard! It's so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love your backyard blogspot Deb! :) The name of my blog is a simple combination of art and butterflies which I love and to me butterflies represent rebirth which is how I was feeling at the start of my journey with art!
ReplyDeleteFun post!
Hollie, Awwww! Come on! I'll make you a tent back there...or give you the blankets I've crocheted. You could lay them out on the grass and have a high old time!! LOL
ReplyDeleteCathy, Ah! That explains it! Of course I knew you were artsy, but I also knew you weren't a butterfly! LOL I understand the rebirth like a moth to a butterfly idea. :-] In face a butterfly is on my Wuglyees banner on Etsy too. But mine represents how butterflies go from 'ugly' moths to beautiful butterflies. My yarn creations go from 'Ugly' leftover yarn, to beautiful 'Wuglyee' creations! :-) Butterflies are a good representer! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMy blog was named after my shop, which is a positive spin that I put on an unkind nickname I had in school.
ReplyDeleteI come from a very well-to-do family. My grandpa graduated from college at age 22 with an electric engineering degree then opened a design & repair shop for coal mining motors. He has been extremely successful in a state that's one of the poorest in the country. My peers at school were jealous of my family and decided that they would belittle me by calling me "Elle The Heiress" and making fun of me every chance they got. I figured they must have been dumber than I thought because it wasn't a very good derogatory name. My best friend got fed up with it one day and shouted to some of them, "You idiots! Every girl is an heiress - it has nothing to do with money!" And, several years later when I opened my shop, I decided that "...because every girl is an heiress" would be a fantastic tagline!
So there you go. =)
Elle, WOW! That is fabulous!! :-] Way to turn lemons into lemonade!!! Your encompassing of your name into something that means something so powerful to you means that being who YOU are, not who other people THINK you are, is very important to you too! Being of that mind-set myself, I just think it's great!!!! :-) Thank you so much for sharing it with me. I'll never think of your blog, or name, the same again! {I thought, before I read this comment, that the name Elle The Heiress was a way of maybe making yourself feel better about being a girlie girl or something. LOL...Although...that would have been fine too! ^_^}
ReplyDeleteLove the hummingbird feeder! Unfortunately, at my apartment there is no place for one!
ReplyDelete"Cobalt Violet" came from an art class. I had a tube of cobalt violet (oil paint) which was about 45 bucks. It was so beautiful. I had been working on a painting of a guy and something was missing. My friend and teacher said "Throw some cobalt violet on there! It makes everything better!" That became a joke with every painting that was unfinished or needed something more, or was just not working ...
" All you need is a little Cobalt Violet."
Cobalt Violet, Awwww! I like that!! :-] I'm so glad you told me! It makes a lot of sense now!! ^_^ I'm loving the reasonings behind all of your names!! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteUm.....I've got NOTHING interesting to add from my TOTALLY self explanatory blog.
ReplyDeleteBut there's always tomorrow!
Holyoke Home, *Teehee*...But you DID find something to add anyway! ^_^ And I thank you!
ReplyDeleteYou have a gorgeous yard!
ReplyDeleteI love that little bird feeder so colourful. I have always liked your backyard and your blog has always refected that. Mine was named dee dee as my close friends call me this and then of course my vintage delights is my little journey of life and finds ;-)) I love what people name their blogs its interesting. dee x
ReplyDeleteIt looks so green. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteShannon, Thank you!! :-)
ReplyDeletedelia, Thank you. I'm still on hummingbird watch. Nothing so far! :-)) ... As to your blog, I kinda knew what yours was all about. :-) And by the way, we share a nickname. I'm called Dee Dee too by a few people!...And I like flowers like you too! :-)
ReplyDeletePriscila, Thank you! Yes, very green! It's nice to see it green again and not white and covered in piles of snow!! :-)
ReplyDeleteWith all your creativity and talent it is a bit surprising that you didn't name it after a knitting phrase of some kind! I love the backyard however and I had to do a double take at the pic with the pine trees..that could be my yard! Hahaha! Maybe we're neighbors? Nah, anyway, 10ys. ago when we moved to this house, I had a dream and my Mother-in-law who had passed away a year before was in it and she said we should give this place a name..Whispering Pines..it was a very vivid dream and it made me laugh because she always named everything like her cars, their farm, every wild cat, dog or bug she came across! So that's what I did and it just seemed the right name for my blog too! She also had tons of hummingbirds that returned year after year to their farm.
ReplyDeletei guess the name on my blog is self-explanatory but i do often wonder about changing it.
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful backyard. and i was reading your previous post with your magnolia tree. how old is it? i ask because we bought one for my Mom, several years ago and it still looks like a bush, not a tree!
yaya, Ahhhh! So that's where 'Whispering Pines' came from!! I kinda figured the trees weren't trying to tell you some secret! LOL And by the way, a crocheting phrase is 'sorta kinda' included in my blog's name because "Wug" is the nickname I have because of my Wuglyees crochet shop! :-) The name Wuglyees has to do with things I crochet being 'Warm, but ugly'! LOL I explain the name in the profile of my Wuglyees shop. So, you see, it all fits!!...Okay, back to hummingbird watch! ^_^
ReplyDeleteElisa, I know what you mean about the name. Your blog name is self-explanatory to those of us who have followed your blog from Croatia, but any new followers who see you living in Colorado and also talking about Iowa may wonder! *Teehee*...Thank you for the nice words about the backyard. I have no idea how old the Magnolia is. It's gotta have some years on it though. It was here before me for sure!! But even a Magnolia bush is gorgeous, isn't it?!! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love your backyard. e a hummingbird feeder. I have to move it this year, away from my porch because the mud wasps were always drinking on it!
ReplyDeleteI love your poems. I don't know what wug stands for?
Susan, I'm so glad you like it!! It's my 'Happy Place'! LOL ... As to my name "Wug", it does have a funny meaning. In my "Wuglyees" shop profile I explain the name. Just go here, and click on "Read more" and scroll down to find it. --> http://www.etsy.com/people/wuglyees#
