I was planning to talk about this subject in a few days anyway, but when I saw this treasury by jdenitto1966, entitled Blue Wine On Fire, I saw the poetic coincidence of it and decided that now was the time to give this subject a go!
Yes, with all the things going on in my family lately, I've had days where I was a little 'blue'. And with all of the rain, chilly weather, and hormones going haywire, I'm feeling a little 'aged'!....See! Poetic coincidence. :-)
Before I start 'waxing poetic' though, let me show you a few of the things I really liked in this treasury. One...of course...being the Plaid Blue and Wine colored Deborah Tote Bag of mine that she included!
It's one of the two pocketbooks I have left in my Wuglyees shop right now. I'm debating on whether I'm gonna make any more. I only sold one in the almost three years my shop has been open! And that one sold back in April of 2009!!...O_O...Besides, I'm not in any hurry to be fooling around with pocketbook linings anyway!
Speaking of which, hopefully I'll be able to show you my new Yoyo bag lining that my friend did for me this coming weekend. I'm determined...determined I tell you!...to get it photographed and in the shop before this coming weekend is through! {Now let's see if that 'self-pep-talk' works! ^_^}
Getting back to the treasury...(don't you just love how my mind just wanders off, goes for a little mental stroll, gets in a mental boat, unties the mental mooring, drifts along a mental stream, and then remembers that the boat has mentally drifted away from the dock, and has to jump back in the mental water and swim like crazy for the mental shore?!! LOL)...here's a couple of the other things I liked...
I love the colors! They remind me of the different colors of grapes, at different stages of ripening on the vine.
Not only are these pretty, but I think marketing them as 'wine bottle jewelry' is pretty clever! :-)
A little known fact about me is that even though I consider myself to be a pretty good cook, I have never owned a legitimate cutting board! (I say 'legitimate' because I won a free bright yellow plastic cutting board years ago with something I bought, but I gave that piece of junk 'baby' away as soon as I could! LOL)
I've cut everything I ever cooked, over the trash can or the sink, with a sharp knife and the water running!....What can I say, I have skills like that! ^_^ {And yes, I do have 'all' 10 fingers still!}...But if I did buy or use a cutting board it would definitely be one like the one above! Gorgeous wood, sturdy, and the kind that can take a beating! ^_^
What a gorgeous treasury, huh?! If you wanna see the other items in it close up you can click HERE.
Okay...back to my aging subject...I've been known to whine on occasion...What's that? You say you 'KNOW'?!! LOL...But lately I'm not just whining to hear myself whine. I'm really starting to feel my age!...Is it just me?!...Is there something in the water?!...In the air?!...Is it just me?!! O_O
Okay...so you've heard this song before! :-] But it's disturbing me a bit these days because I'm wanting to sleep more and more,...and not 'staying asleep' once I actually go down! (And considering that I'm usually so exhausted that I can barely form sentences, you'd think I'd sleep for ages!!....but Nooooooo!)
And...and don't you dare laugh at me either!...when I tell you that every time I crochet for more than an hour now, I get a pain going up my arm, all the way from my middle finger up to my shoulder!...I tried to ignore it last week because I was determined to crochet the rest of my scarf. The next morning I couldn't sit up!! I felt like I had pulled the muscle in my whole shoulder!! LOL
I didn't pick up the crochet hook the next day...and the pain went away. Then I crocheted the day after that and....the same thing happened the next morning!!! My shoulder and upper arm wouldn't move!! UGH!...So, as I said in the beginning, I'm really starting to feel my age. :-(
I used to be a plump, finely colored grape, basking in the sunshine...Now I'm old, over-ripe grape, withering on the vine!! LOL...I try not to worry about it too much. After all, as you can see, my mind...although it drifts away from the shore on occasion...is still working just fine! And I don't play with my lips 'half' as much as I used to! LOL
Yes, my eyes are not as good as they once were...And my memory.......O_0 Wait! What was I saying?!...And the arthritis is getting more painful in certain parts of my body...including the back of my hands...SERIOUSLY?!...WHY?!!!...And my patience is about as thin as my skin these days!!...Where is the 'but'?! There must be a 'but' to this story, right?!!!
Yes, there is a 'but'. The 'but' is......but I'm still alive. I'm still breathing every day. I still have a husband and family that love me, and that I love. I still find all kinds of things to laugh about...including myself!
I can still appreciate a good joke, a baby's smile, a puppy's wagging tail, a good book, a beautiful sky, a snugly hug, a game of tennis...or any ball game for that matter..., a gorgeous de-seeded sunflower, a board game of scrabble or a hand of cards, the smell of a pork roast with ginger and spices cooking in the oven, the look of a beautiful piece of jewelry, the feel of a soft piece of yarn, a red and black cardinal, a blue jay, and the changing orange and red leaves of the trees in my backyard. :-]
In other words, poetically speaking, aging is tough, but it's not all bad! :-] It could be worse!!...So, to those of you, like me, who have days when the 'aging thing' is starting to get to you, make a list of all of the things you can still appreciate about your life...and get a nice glass of wine, instead of 'whine', and smile it off if you can.....I just did! :-]
Everything is getting older,
past it's time, and rusting fast!
No matter how many times you oil it,
Somehow, still, it doesn't last.
Everything is getting older.
Even veggies just from the store,
have now browned and withered up.
They're not all shiny like before.
Everything is getting older.
Old dogs included, people too.
Even babies, from the womb,
start getting older, just past brand new!
Everything is getting older,
like real good books, with tales all told.
But, Wait a minute! Some books are good!
That's why "To read" will not get old.
Everything that's getting older
doesn't harm us and displease.
Just think of wisdom in the aging-
that's with people and with cheese!
All the things, those getting older,
showing marks and scars of time,
just need a tad bit more attention,
or just a small aged glass of wine!

How creative! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love all the colorful products and whining, I mean wining on your blog! (that wine jewelry is awesome!) Nothing like an aged bottle of wine to make us feel better about aging! We do get better with age, even if we have a few more creaks and cranks! (Enter me!)
ReplyDeleteLovely treasury and such a wonderful write-up! Your blog is fantastic. Thank you so much for featuring my napkin rings! They really do look nice on the wine bottles and it gives them a nice place to be displayed/stored when they are not in use on the table.
ReplyDeleteMelanie, Awwww! How nice of you to stop and say so! :-) Thank "YOU"!
ReplyDeleteDarlene, Thank you! I'm so glad you liked the products. I really did too!...And clearly I enjoy a little 'whine' every now and again too! ^_^ And I agree with you about getting better with age too....mentally speaking. The physical part...O-U-C-H! Physically getting older...I always say...is not for 'sissies'!! ^_^ By the way, you're entered!
ReplyDeleteLeslie, I agree. It's a beautiful treasury she curated. Glad to share a spot in it with you! :-) And sharing your beautiful 'wine bottle jewelry' was my pleasure! :-]
ReplyDeletewhat a lovely post and thank you for highlighting my treasury.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your "feeling your age", Sunday I was working in my garden, trimming back some trees and when I woke up the next morning, ouch, felt like I got hit by a truck in my sleep!
Definitely going to follow your web log, well done!

Jeanine, Thank you for such a nice comment. I can see that you know "Exactly" what I'm talking about too!! :-) Have a good rest of the day!
ReplyDeleteThank you for including my photo as part of your post. And by the way, I can totally relate!
ReplyDeleteGilding Lilies, :-) It was entirely my pleasure!...And I think there's a 'few' of us in the same boat, huh?! ^_^
ReplyDeleteOh my dear Wug....I'm so sorry it's getting worse for you. :( This system is taking its toll on all of us. I feel it myself, but I can't complain. You certainly have every reason to complain, but I love your positiveness! Could you please bottle it and give it away as a giveaway gift???? I've had a rough week myself struggling with my own emotions. I think that pain may be easier to deal with for me. But I'll get over it.
ReplyDeleteYour list is a good one and I should really take the time to make a list too.
Nice treasury and I love the way you intertwined it in your blog post.
Remember, like I tell myself every day..."it's only temporary!"
Feel better my friend...
Oh, by the way.... a young man I know once said that women are like fine wine. The longer they stay on the shelf (or the older they get) the better they are. I think of this often.
ReplyDeleteCinLynn, Thank you so so much for all of the encouraging words!! And No need to be sorry, Bead. I'm afraid this system is rough on all of us!! I'm afraid my problems aren't unique or special. We're really all in the same boat, aren't we?!...And if I could bottle up and sell positiveness I wouldn't be online trying to sell my scarves and poetry! ^_^ I'd be in the trump tower or the Bill Gates mansion...and giving it away on the side! :-))))) .....But What's going on with you emotionally?! O_0
ReplyDeleteCinLynn, And yes...women 'are' like fine wine...in lots of ways! We do get better with age, but we also have a lot of settlement in the bottoms of our bottles, so to speak!! LOL Also when under too much pressure, we're liable to blow our cork!!! ^_^ Oh! But we sure know how to be bubbly and sparkle when need be though!....I could be here all day!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteI agree with Cindy, the older we get the better we are.
ReplyDeleteDeb, I got my gift today! It's so beautiful my necklace. Thank you so much. I look forward to wearing it!
I'm with CinLynn, women ARE just like fine wine we do get better with age :)
ReplyDeletePriscila, YAY!! I'm glad you got it!...And even happier that you like it! :-) I hope it gives you a smile and starts fun conversations for you...I've been told that that's what happens. ^_^ Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteJo-anne, I agree too! ^_^
ReplyDeleteI know just how you feel as I sit here in my pink chenille chickens bathrobe wondering if I'll be able to actually move with the children in the classroom today! Beautiful posting as usual, and the photos make me swoon for soil and sun and grapes and wine...and a few chickens running about. Cheers dear!!
ReplyDeleteCody, Ha! Ha! I have one of those 'house coats' too...but mine is not pink. It's red! ^_^ Thanks for the nice words. I'd send you a glass...if I could un-gnarl my fingers! LOL
