What's With The Light?!...Is It Getting Dim In Here?! O_O

How do you know when your eyesight is getting worse...or that you're going blind...or that, at the very least, you need a new lamp?!...When you find yourself squinting to look at the t.v. all the way across the room, or continuously blowing your hot breath on your glasses and cleaning them (and still wondering why they don't seem to be getting any clearer!), or you find yourself crocheting in slow motion because it's taking you forever to find the stitch that you're suppose to be going into next!
Truth is...I don't think I'm going blind. I think I need to get my eyes examined, and get some new glasses. These old 'peepers' don't wanna work like they used to....Although hubby's new-fangled light bulbs may have something to do with it!...They're suppose to save us some money on electricity...

You probably can't tell, with my photo-taking skills,...Ha!...but it's a small coiled bulb. One of those energy-efficient ones. Hubby put them all over the house a while ago..about the same time I started wondering if I was going blind...now that I think about it! LOL...The light bill did go down a little...

...but so did my ability to see!! ^_^ I didn't even know there was dust on the lamp arm there until I saw this photo!!! LOL....UGH!
This is the lamp that I crochet by in the early hours before sunrise, and at night before bed. It used to give off really good light...before the new bulb!...But now it's giving off a golden glow, like we have a romantic movie we're trying to film in here or something! ^_^

See what I mean?! O_O ...It's a good thing I get lots of natural light in the house during the day, or else I'd probably be in a different kind of mood all the time than the one I need to be in to crochet!! LOL...I've got boutonnieres to make, people!!!

I need to get me a bowl like this one (above) that holds your yarn in this special bowl that guides the yarn out to you. That way I won't have to get a seeing-eye dog to 'fetch' my yarn balls...that I can't see...from all across the floor! LOL
Or maybe I need to get a better, more light-efficient, lamp!...This one is really pretty!...

So is this green one....and it has flowers!...

With my eyes, maybe I need two of them! LOL...

I know hubby would love it if I got this one!...

...but if I got it I'd have to keep going to find my lamp every time I wanted to crochet. He'd have it in the room with him or taking it somewhere for "Show and Tell"! LOL...Okay...maybe not. But I'm not gonna chance it! ^_^

All blindness jokes aside, I really do need better light in my room to crochet by. I told hubby this morning that I think I need one of these...

It's a headlamp. It has the little light on the front that you can direct down to your work. My local Home Depot may have them too!...for less than $20.00!! I'm gonna find out before the weekend.
*sigh*....As I've said in the past, getting old is not for sissies!! LOL...Moving on!!!...Just wanted to let my regular readers know...the old car...our old reliable "Betsy"..is gone. :-( Hubby turned over the title to the auto shop that did the diagnostic work on it....We couldn't afford the more than $2,000 it was gonna cost to fix it, and the most we could have gotten for the non-working car was $200 at the junk-yard!
So, rather than getting the $200 from the junk-yard...minus $100 to have it towed there!...and then having to pay around $150 to the auto shop for their diagnosis...$75 an hour!......we agreed to let the auto shop have it...So, in the end, it didn't cost us anything...except for a few of hubby's tears. He got really emotional when he went over to take all of his things out of the car and leave the title. :-(
After our meeting yesterday, he went over to see the new car that some friends are giving us. He loves it!! :-) He says it looks just like another car we used to have!...I'm glad. Maybe that'll take some of the sting out of losing his big green 'Betsy' baby. He's been, about that car, the way I am about yarn. Now you get the emotion, right?!...Oh Well, me, hubby, new 'Betsy' baby...varoom!....varoom!.....Moving on!!! ^_^
Have a good day, Everybody!...and don't forget the Giveaway (right hand sidebar)!

Everything Is Getting Older

Everything is getting older,
past it's time, and rusting fast!
No matter how many times you oil it,
Somehow, still, it doesn't last.

Everything is getting older.
Even veggies just from the store,
have now browned and withered up.
They're not all shiny like before.

Everything is getting older.
Old dogs included, people too.
Even babies, from the womb,
start getting older, just past brand new!

Everything is getting older,
like real good books, with tales all told.
But, Wait a minute! Some books are good!
That's why "To read" will not get old.

Everything that's getting older
doesn't harm us and displease.
Just think of wisdom in the aging-
that's with people and with cheese!

All the things, those getting older,
showing marks and scars of time,
just need a tad bit more attention,
or just a small aged glass of wine!

  1. Think I need to get my eyes checked, always got headaches at the moment, I have these curly bulbs, they are so much prettier to look at when you can see them than the standard ones.

    Bee happy x
    Have a delicious day!

    1. Uh Oh! O_O Yeah, better get them checked! And to me there's few things worse than a headache! I hope you get the mystery resolved soon. If it's an eye problem, it's an easy fix..And you're right about the bulbs being pretty to "look at", but for lighting up a room good enough to crochet in...not so much!...Thanks for sharing, Bee!

  2. Love the poem! I definitely know what you mean. I just had to redo a bracelet I made because I thought some dark blue buttons were black. It wasn't until I saw the bracelet in the light of day that I realized my mistake.

    1. Ha! Ha! Yep! I've done that too, Mary!! ^_^ And it's starting to happen more often than I care to admit! LOL...Thanks for the nice words about the poem too!

  3. I know just what you mean about those low energy bulbs i have them all over the house and they are a lot dimmer than the old ones and they take ages sometimes to kick in. Old is best i always think. Love that green lamp base. So sorry Betsy has gone but im glad that hubby loves the new car ;-) Enjoy your crochet while the day light is bright. dee x

    1. See! I knew I wasn't the only one that's had issues with these bulbs! Thank yo for sharing, Dee! And I agree...old is better!...but, of course, the old energy "prices" were better too! ^_^ This 'compromising convenience for finances' thing is a real challenge!! LOL...I'll give hubby your sentiments about 'Betsy'. I'm off to enjoy the little sunshine that's left! :-] You do that too!

  4. I totally understand about the eye thing. I can't see worth a lick close up. I have to wear 2 pairs of glasses!(talk about needing your eyes checked! LOL). The head lamp is a great idea. I have one, but fail to use it. You can get them really reasonable at Big Lots if you have one near by. My grandson bought one recently.
I'm sorry you had to give up your green car (we had a green car once and my sons lovingly referred to it as the "booger" car! LOL) I'm sure the new one will work out well for you too.

Love the poem! It says it all! I'm off for that glass of wine too!! LOL

    Enter me please!

    1. WOW, Bead! 2 pair!...Although I may be heading that way soon, because depending on what time of day it is now, my eyes are either fuzzy, dry, leaky, or tired!...UGH! LOL...Why don't you use your headlamp, Bead?! O_0 And thanks for letting me know about Big Lots. We 'do' have one locally!...Did you have an emotional attachment to the 'Booger' car like hubby does to 'Betsy'?...I'm hoping it doesn't take long to move on! ^_^ ... Thanks for the nice words about the poem too! And you're entered! :-)

    2. I don't use my headlamp cuz it messes my hair up! LOL I'm so vain sometimes!!
As for the "booger" car...no emotional attachment there. We traded it in and it ran great! The owner of the lot was thrilled to get it! He had a buyer who was looking for a car exactly like it. We got rid of it because the back windows didn't roll down. Just the vents opened. Not a good car for service.
As for the 2 pairs of glasses...one pair are reading glasses. I can't see the holes in my beads without them. In fact I can't buy reading glasses over the counter anymore. They don't make anything stronger than a +400. I need at least a +425 or +450 would be better. My close up vision is gone. Thank you old age!!!
      You're welcome!!

    3. Ha! Ha! I wouldn't have thought of that as being the reason AT ALL, the headlamp being a hair messer upper I mean!!! ^_^ But I totally get the thing about the car not being a good service car! I had one of those cars years ago too. The back window on the right was the only window that would roll down! Ha! Ha! Oh the hot summers!!! ^_^ I'm glad I don't have that car now! That car, me, and a good 'hot flash' and it would be ALL OVER!! ^_^

  5. Hello,

So, the car situation came to an end. Sometimes is better just to let it go, otherwise it becomes so expensive.
My hubby took our car to change the oil and came back home with $200 bill from oil change and others.. . Nothing is cheap anymore.
    Have a nice week.

    1. Yes, Priscila, we're currently between cars...until the middle of the week or so I think. And you're right about the 'letting it go' thing. In fact, just yesterday we received the bill to renew the registration...$50.00! I'm glad we got it now, and not 3 weeks ago when we would've paid for it and now wouldn't have a car!!...As you say: "Nothing is cheap anymore!"...Have a good rest of the week, Priscila!

    1. Thanks for the sympathy for my car. :-] It really is cool...and very loving...of my friends to give us a car. This isn't the first car we've been given in our life either! And I had forgotten that until right now! This is our third car gift!! WOW!...We're very fortunate to have surrounded ourselves with people who don't give the word 'friendship' just lip service. We love them...and would support them the exact same way if given the opportunity. :-] (And we have in the past.)...Thanks for the heads up about the bulbs too! We'll have to look for some brighter ones...while I can still see! LOL...Have a good day!

  7. Those are some very interesting lamps that you found. I really like that baseball one. Only problem is wouldn't be hard to clean?

Sorry about your car :( I know how hard it is when you need to say goodbye. What wonderful friends you have to give you & hubby a car! What a blessing that is :)

    1. Hi Jo! Yes, those are some interesting lamps, aren't they. And the baseball one could be cleaned easily with a feather duster. ^_^ I've got odd shaped 'knick knacks'. I know! LOL...Thanks for the nice words about the car too.
