What Do You Do In The Fall...In New England?!

If you've followed my blog for any length of time you've seen and read me...over and over and over again!...complaining about being a resident of New England in the Springtime...with all of my allergies flaring up...ACHOO!!!!...You've heard me lament about the rain, the heat, and the mosquitoes of the Summertime!...And you certainly have seen my constant grumping and moaning about the piles of snow in my backyard in the wintertime!
But I ask you...have you ever heard me complain about the Fall?!!..Okay, so I might've complained about 'something' in the Fall...I like to do that on occasion just to keep my poetry muscle exercised...^_^...but, even if I did!...complaining about the Fall would certainly not have been to the degree of complaining I've done about the other three seasons!!
Why not, you ask?!...Because I love New England...(the region in the north-eastern corner of the United States that include the 6 states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut...and of course, Massachusetts!)...in the Fall!! :-)
The weather becomes cooler. The leaves on the trees begin changing from the green of Summer, to the browns, golds, and reds of Fall.
The animals are scurrying around, collecting and storing food for the winter.
And New England becomes alive with activity!! :-) Harvest-time vegetable stands start popping up all over the place. You start seeing signs around town for hot apple cider, with cinnamon sticks in them...
          ...and hay rides...
Craft fairs are all of a sudden everywhere, with jewelry, knit and crocheted items, paintings, and all manner of cooked goodies! You can see that people were tweaking and twining their hands and brains all three of the other seasons, just waiting for the Fall, so they could show off what they've been doing! :-)
But also every year in our area,...in West Springfield Massachusetts to be specific,...right around the corner from us, there's a special kind of excitement!... The Big E!!!...also known as The Eastern States Exposition!...billed as "New England's Great State Fair".
This year The Big E will be from September 16th to October 2nd. It'll be seventeen days of people milling around...
...of ferris wheels, rides, horse shows...
...a Super Circus (the tent shown in the header photo)...and my very favorite...LIVE performances of singers from all over the place! And this year is not gonna be an exception. In fact, I was amazed at the line up this year!! (And no! I'm not getting paid, nor have I even been asked to do this 'promotion'! I wanted to!!! ^_^)
On Friday night, at 7:30, on the Comcast Arena Stage...Darius Rucker is gonna be performing!! :-)
Here's one of his songs that I love!...

And if he was the 'only' entertainment it would be 'Alright' by me! :-) But he's not!! There's two other performers coming too! On Saturday night...Blake Shelton!!
I was gonna put one of his songs here, but his songs are not able to be embedded for some reason. But you can go HERE to his Youtube channel and listen to them if you like. There is one particularly that I like the words to. (The video...not so much) It's called "Who are you when I'm not looking".
          .....And on Sunday... Reba McIntire!!!
You can listen (below) to one of her newest songs, "Somebody's Chelsea". I'm sure she'll probably sing this at the Big E...

So, as you can see, Fall in New England is not so bad! :-)
If you want tickets you can follow the link HERE for the number to call.
And this Fall we also have Ty Pennington and the 'Extreme Makeover' people building a house right around the corner too!! We're already having a good Fall and Fall hasn't officially even gotten here yet!! :-]
      What's your favorite season?!

Fall Is The Tree

Fall is the tree,
with its colors all set free
in the orange and red you see,
and the golden leaves in the
honey-colored harmony
of a busy bumble bee.

Its so beautiful that we
don't even have to pay a fee
for the stark tranquility
that just fills our heart with glee.

Fall is the tree,
and it makes us hit our knee,
and thank God so humbly
for the unlocked door and key
to our visual memory.
All the other seasons flee,
but the fall is the tree.

  1. Deb, How wonderful to have some great artists there in concert. The pictures of the beautiful fall colors are just amazing. Thank you for sharing. If I were there I would be getting tickets to see all three artists. Have a good Day!!

  2. SnowflakeDreams1, I think it's pretty cool to be able to see them in an up close and personal way in a setting like this. We've seen quite a few artists over the years and at the parks and fairs they always seem more relaxed...At a Country Music Festival one year I ended up walking out on Vince Gill while he was singing. :-( It was over 100 degrees in the sun and I was about to get really sick!! He looked directly at me while me and hubby were crossing everybody sitting on the ground. I felt awful!!! I later heard that he played song after song for more than 3 hours!!...I really was sick after I realized what I missed!! ^_^

  4. Well I would love to see Darius Rucker in concert! Awesome!! Blake too! But I have to admit, I'm not a Reba fan. Sounds like a great time. We have our annual Salmon festival this weekend. The salmon are plentiful in the lakes and streams here, and oh, so delicious!!!
    Thanks for sharing this info!

  7. CinLynn, I know if you were here you'd love it, Bead...as I would love your salmon festival I'm sure! I know we both have good taste in music! ^_^ {And I don't like a lot of Reba's songs myself. But I love her voice!} I'm glad you liked the info. Thanks for the nice comment my friend. :-)

  8. Elisa, This time of year is kind of exciting, isn't it?!...You don't know it, but you paid me a very special complement when you said my words were contagious. I don't know exactly how you meant it, but it made me smile with satisfaction. :-) It was a first, to hear my words spoken of as contagious. I'm taking it in a good way...Don't tell me if you meant it otherwise! Ha! Ha! Thank you! And Have a good rest of the day! :-)

  9. If you had substituted the name "Ohio" with all the descriptions of New England fall, you would have described our part of the world. Our county fair opens on the 18th and lasts a week. We used to have a few live acts, but for the past few years the expense of it was too much. For some reason this year we do have a country singer appearing...don't ask me his name...and I'm sure everyone will be happy to have him. I'm not a super huge fan of the Ashland fair, but tradition is important and the people around here just would die without their fair. So enjoy your fall and I'll enjoy our fall and together we'll "fall" into a similar state of happiness!

  10. yaya, Ha! ha! I liked your last sentence about 'fall-ing into a similar state of happiness!' Truth is, I think a lot of small towns and cities during the Fall have fairs and Expos. I know that the Big E, within the 17 days of it, has certain days devoted to showing off the best of local towns and states. Everybody around here looks so forward to it!!...Even the neighbors right around the area. They allow people to park in their yards and on their lawns all day while they're in the park for a fee. So everybody wins! :-) So, let's enjoy our season! :-)

  12. Bee Happy, I've never visited the UK either...unfortunately...but it makes me happy to know that, even with so much distance between us, we can both enjoy the Fall/Autumn season. :-) And the color changing is the best of it!

  14. Susan, I think I would say so even if I didn't live here, but New England really is beautiful in the Fall! As I'm sure Michigan is too. Every place has it's own thing going on. :-)
