The post title probably has you wondering what I'm talking about now! ^_^ Well, it's nothing major. Just the fact that I thought my sleep patterns were trying to get better. In fact, they had been much better over the last few days! But last night....Ugh! I fell asleep after 11:00 p.m., and was back up a bit before 3 a.m....and I'll still up now...5:12 a.m. The only good thing about the present time is that tennis is on! :-)
********* The first match up this morning is Svetlana Kuznetsova versus Sara Errani. I'm gonna watch it for a little while, before I have to take me a nap so I can be wide awake for my meeting!
Yesterday could be characterized as a "comfortable" day for the top ranking players...Well, for most of them. David Ferrer, Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal breezed through their matches. And Maria Sharapova, Petra Kvitova and Li Na did the same...The real challenges are gonna be in the upcoming rounds, when these top-ranking players end up playing each other!
There were some surprising losers yesterday though...Caroline Wozniacki was upset by Kaia Kanepi, and 26 year old Varvara Lepchenko, 26, upset Francesca Schiavone.
But speaking of 'comfortable' rounds, Roger Federer, today, is playing a fresh faced, 21 year old, slender, 5-foot-11, young man, whose voice is barely a whisper. He's 109th ranked David Goffin. The press have dubbed him a "lucky loser" because he was beaten in qualifying for Roland Garros, but he snuck into the field due to someone's withdrawal. (France's Gael Monfils pulled out with a knee injury.) Now he's reached the fourth round at a Grand Slam tournament...and he's playing Roger Federer!!
Goffin is an unabashed fan of Federer. He displayed posters of 16-time Grand Slam champion, Federer, in his bedroom as a child. He said in an interview: "Since I was little, I've watched Roger play on TV. To me, he plays almost perfect tennis. His technique is perfect. I also like him at the human level. He's a very good person on and off the court."
No one...including Roger himself...can believe that Goffin is still here, into the fourth round! Federer has been winning major titles since 2003,...when Goffin was 12!...What is this match today gonna be like?!...Entertaining, I'm sure. :-)
Also playing today are Novak Djokovic versus Andreas Seppi...Victoria Azarenka versus Dominika Cibulkova ...Stanislas Wawrinka versus Jo-Wilfried Tsonga...and the "feel good" match that I'm looking forward to most, Sloane Stephens versus Samantha Stosur. :-) **********
Okay, a couple of cute Etsy finds, and then I'm outta here! ^_^ ...
French Open 2012, Week One
I can hardly believe
that a whole week is through!
It's been seven days.
WOW! How the time flew!
Tosses and serves,
swings and close games,
grunting and nervousness,
"That was in!" claims.
Very long sets,
(Thanks Isner, Mathieu)
A first round upset
when Serena was through!
A ball-boy mistake,
and Andy's bad back.
I've watched with enjoyment,
whack after whack.
The basketball Playoff's
distraction complete,
with the Celtic's first win
against Miami heat.
And baseball chimed in,
with it's fans all a flitter,
when Johan Santana
pitched the Mets' first No-Hitter.
This may be Sharapova's
and Sloane Stephen's best year.
Whatever the case, one more week,
I'll be here!

Hubby is still sleeping soundly. I'm gonna go and see if I can join him. If you don't hear from us by 2022...come and find us. We'll be the two 'wibbly wobbly headed' folks, with drool running down our beards! LOL
Have a good day, Everybody! :-)

It sounds like David Goffin really is lucky. I hope he doesn't get all star struck or something while he plays against Federer.
ReplyDeleteI hope you managed to get some more sleep.
Guess what?!...Goffin made Roger go for 4 sets!! He won the first set! But of course, Roger upped his level of play and took the match...but he had to really work at it. Little Goffin can really play!! :-)...And yes, I did get a small nap. I' tired now though. I think another nap may be coming up soon! ^_^
DeleteWugs, there were a few matches today that started off really interesting (until they settled into the predictable result).
ReplyDeleteI hope your sleep issues get righted soon. Sleep is so important and can be at such a premium sometimes!
Be well and enjoy!
I'm watching College Rugby right now (not much else on). I can't believe the U.S. Colleges have Rugby teams!
Yes I know...Djokovic...Federer. But the Azarenka match didn't! WOW! What a surprise!!! And the Tsonga match was off to a very interesting result too! We'll have to wait until tomorrow to see the end of that one!...I'm gonna continue to try to catch up on my sleep today, so I can be ready! LOL...I couldn't go to the Rugby. I went to an old movie instead...and tonight, the basketball playoffs! ^_^
DeleteI hope you can get some regular sleep because you with a beard just aint right! I still can't believe basketball is still in season. But when I see what they get for salaries, they should still be working!
ReplyDeleteHa! Ha! How right you are about the beard. But me with stray hairs on my chin hasn't been right either!! Ugh! LOL...And I'm awake and watching the Celtics/Heat game right now. And it's good too! ^_^
DeleteI'm so happy to be featured in your beautiful blog!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
Have a good day!
It was my pleasure Aleksa! :-) And YOU have a good day today too!
DeleteThough I'm not at all into sports, I enjoyed your poem.
ReplyDelete^_^ That kind of nice comment from a non-sports person is quite a complement! Thank you!
DeleteGreat blog! Thank you for featuring my tennis package. I hope you are able to get some sleep!!
ReplyDeleteThanks again and I hope you have a great day!
Laurel
