Today in our area the forecast is for "Plentiful Sunshine. High in the 80s"! It'll be a welcome sight considering the darkness and rain we've been having the last couple of days, thanks to 'hurricane Irene'. Grrrrr! We're glad to get rid of her!...Although I'm still feeling bad for people in her path now. I heard this morning, on the weather channel, that Vermont is having catastrophic flooding. :-(I think that's 'Irene's' middle name......Flood! Oooooo Whee!! The 'Big Girl' sure dropped a ton of water on everybody!! The sewage drains (header photo), rivers, streams, playgrounds, backyards, ponds and parking lots all over our area have had enough of her!!
And she didn't just drop water. She dropped some trees and other stuff too!...
I suppose that families up and down the east coast could share footage of Irene's travels, and her damage. But, personally, I'm thankful I don't have anything significant to report from my family!
Even though I have family and friends in North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont...all of the places Irene passed, as far as I know, everybody came through it just fine!!....That's GOOD news!!! :-) REALLY good news!!
My mother-in-law came to ride out the storm with us...just in case. During the storm, her town had a lot of people lose power. She was glad she was here. So were we...Thankfully, when she went home last night, her power was on.
I thought part of the reason she was in a hurry to go home was because she would be fretting about the power going off. She has freezers full of food at her house. But when I said something to her about it she said: "If the power was off for a while it might do me a favor! I need to get rid of some of that freezer food. It probably has freezer burn and everything else by now!"
I said: "Why? Has it been in there a while?"...She laughed and said that some of it has been in there since a couple of years after she got married!"....Ewwwwwwww! LOL She's been married for 45 years!!!!! WOW!! ^_^
So, hopefully, since she doesn't have to go to her part-time job today...(She's a care-giver for pre-school children and babies),...she'll get to work on that freezer! LOL I'm sure part of the time she'll be outside, feeding all the stray cats in the neighborhood. :-] That's just how she rolls!...Love you Ma!!! ^_^ ...I know she's not hungry! Her and hubby and I ate enough food and snacks to keep us full until the next hurricane comes back!! ^_^
What?!!...A bit much?!....Well, we had to do something!!!... ^_^ ...besides listening to music and dancing, playing Scrabble, crocheting, and watching an inordinate amount of weather reports I mean! :-) We made the best of a bad situation...for sure!!....*burp!* Excuse me. :-]
Today?!.....I'll be packaging up some sales!....Yep! I came online this morning and had sold....
...three brooches and a necklace!!! :-) I don't wanna speak too soon, but I think my new SEO fixing in my shop might actually be working! I'm getting more sales...and a lot more looks too! YAY!!! :-)
Last, but by no means least, today is the first day of the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament!!! :-)
These are some photos taken by Dale, of the blog Savvy Spice, at the beginning of the month, when Serena Williams and Marian Bartoli were about to play at the Bank of the West match at Stanford University out in California. (You can see the whole post of her day at the match, and more photos, HERE.).....I don't know if these two are playing today, but, even if not, I'll be watching!!!! :-)
Have a good day everybody!.....And I mean that!!!! :-) And to Hurricane Irene:..."You caused me all kinds of emotional trouble. Yes! I noticed what you were trying to do! I'm not a robot!!...and I'm still talking! Ha!!!... Here's a song dedicated just to you!!"
To ease my mind,
I jot down a rhyme.
When forced to think,
my brain cells link.
With emotions on paper,
anxieties taper.
With the flow of my pen,
I'm at peace again.
And to jot down this rhyme,
brought ease to my mind.
Glad to hear that you've made it through Irene okay. Seeing all of the photos of the flooding and damage makes me feel awfully sad for all the people in those areas. I hope that there was no loss of life.
ReplyDeleteI love that black & white brooch. It's very nice as is that necklace. Congrats on the sales :)
Glad everyone is fine at your house too. Though a few roads were closed due to flooding in my town, my neighborhood came through unscathed.
ReplyDeleteJo-anne, Thank you. Yep! We're all safe and sound in my family, but unfortunately there were some deaths from the storm...10, last I heard. There may be more. :-(
ReplyDeleteJansjems, I'm glad to hear you're okay too!...Yeah, the flooding is BAD!!! Be careful while you're out and about today.
ReplyDeleteThose are some great photos of "Irene's" madness!! Glad it's over for you.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on all the sales! Looks like the SEO is working for sure! I'll have to make some changes in my listings too and see what happens.
Have a great day today and enjoy the sunshine. I'm off to do the same.
Deb, I'm so happy to hear that you and your family members made it through Irene.I know that the next few days are still filled with trouble because of the flooding waters my prayers and thoughts will be with you and your family. Congrats on all your sales. Have a good day!!!
ReplyDeleteCinLynn, Thanks Bead. I'm always amazed at how great people's photo-taking skills are in crisis. I know I wouldn't have been able to focus myself this well...But I'm hoping no more storms or hurricanes {"You hear that Jose?!.....DIVERT!!!" LOL} come along to give them subject matter!!...Thanks for the encouragement about the sales too! Enjoy the sunshine! Take deep breaths out in the refreshed air too! :-)
ReplyDeleteSnowflakeDreams1, Thank you so much!! Yep! We got through it just fine!...And, don't worry, I'm not going near any bodies of water!! I'm even warning all my friends and family to do the same! And if they can't avoid it....to be CAREFUL!!!!!...Thanks for the nice words about the sales too! Have a good day, Velma. :-)
ReplyDeleteFirstly congrats on the sales!!! Waking up to 4 is awesome! To think people were shopping while Irene was tearing a path through the country!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe the amount of water that Irene was able to dump on the east coast. Those pictures are really scary and show the power of water and how bridges can easily just be swept aside! I hope everyone gets through this safely!
Lisa
Looking forward to the US Open.
Lisa, Thank you!!...about the sales! :-) It was a very nice surprise!...About Irene, Scary is right!! The water isn't expected to go back to normal around here for a few days. It's just gonna be a matter of 'watching where you're going'. Am I to assume that Irene didn't come your way?!...As to the U.S. Open...I'm 'on it' already!!! ^_^
ReplyDeleteWe got a break from Irene. We typically only experience the after effects if the hurricane heads up the Gulf of Mexico. If it hits the east coast it usually gets the Maritimes - Nova Scotia especially gets hit.
ReplyDeleteWhat I find fascinating about Irene is just how slow it's making it's way up. I always thought storms were fast!
This crazy weather year just keeps on rolling..I'm glad it's out of your backyard now and hopefully is gone for good. I feel so bad for anyone dealing with this mess. After all the electric woes we've had this summer I get hives when I hear the phrase: "power outage"..itch, itch! Have a good weather week Deb!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad everyone in your family is ok. I can't believe the water and the size of some of the trees. xo
ReplyDeleteP.S. In answer to your question about the tray. No I don't have a photo of it. I wish I did :( I checked online and no luck.
Lisa, I'm so glad you got a break from the 'Big Girl'. And you're right about her taking her time! I couldn't believe she was swirling around Massachusetts for the whole day and into the night. Unheard of!...But she's gone now!...But where is "Jose"?...UGH!
ReplyDeleteyaya, Ha! Ha! I know what you mean about the weather. And I'm glad we didn't have to deal with a 'power outage'...(sympathy itch, itch...for you LOL)...We only got a little flicker one time...Hubby came home early from work today though. The stores don't have power, and won't have any for about 4 days. The electric company has their hands full!...It was an absolutely beautiful day to come home early too!
ReplyDeleteJoyce, Thank you. :-) I'm glad we're okay too!! We know it could have been MUCH worse!...And too bad about the tray photo. Thanks for looking anyway...Have a good rest of the day!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you and your family made it through the hurricane.
ReplyDeleteAlittlesprite, Awwww! Thank you for stopping by to say so. :-)
ReplyDeleteAmazing what a bunch of wind and water can do!!! Glad everyone in your family is well!!
ReplyDeleteNicole, Amazing is right!! But it could have be Oh So Much Worse!! It's amazing that it wasn't...and we're amazingly thankful!!...Thanks for stopping to say such nice words. :-) Have a good rest of the evening.
ReplyDeleteThe little song at the end was a nice (and funny) treat. :) When I see those flood pictures, I feel so lucky! I live 20min north of NYC, and my immediate neighborhood had no damage, no flooding. But, just a mile or two away in each direction, there were problems.
ReplyDeleteOur paths haven't crossed on Twitter in a bit...hope all is well! I've been off and on with Twitter the past few months, and not getting on at any regular time each day.
Malea, :-) I'm so glad you enjoyed that. It was the first thing I thought of when I was thinking about what I would say to the 'Big Girl'! LOL That's the way my silly brain works sometime. ^_^ ...And I'm so glad your neighborhood didn't get any damage!! I guess you were kinda just in the right spot like we were here in Holyoke. The surrounding towns got more damage than we did too. I guess we both should be thankful, huh?! O_0
ReplyDeleteAs to Twitter, I haven't been over there much lately because I don't want to have to get Tweetdeck just to be able to know how to do things anymore. I used to be able to know who I tweeted last...by my 'Favorite' light. Now I can't tell who I talked to last!....And I used to be able to comment the same thing to more than one person at a time. Now it has to be one person at a time! I don't have that kind of time to be wasting...So, I've been on Facebook more. That's where you'll catch me most of the time. Although I pop in to Twitter once a day to make sure that I'm not missing any personal messages...that I can see anyway! *smh* Why can't these places just leave well enough alone?!!! Grrrr!..Have a good day! And thanks for the comment. :-)
Have you ever tried HootSuite for Twitter? I find it much easier to use. Has four columns across - first is Tweets of those you are following, second are tweets to you/mentioning you, third are tweets you have scheduled for future, then fourth are tweets you've sent. There is a fifth column, but I don't ever check it - DM's/private messages (usually spam! LOL!). I feel the same though, why fix what ain't broke? :)
ReplyDeleteMalea, Everybody keeps mentioning Tweetdeck and Hootsuite, but it's all a world of stuff I don't understand. And I'm not mentally ready to do the reading up to find out about it. I've got enough on my plate already!! :-]
