Before I get started with today's post, let me just thank all of you who commented on yesterday's post, whether you commented here or in other places. Y'all are some supportive, creative, and very funny...VERY funny...people!! And I'm glad to have your input here on the runaway 'Wug' train. LOL...especially those of you who comment regularly! You know who you are!! :-) ...And so do I!! :-) I'm not angry or annoyed today...in part thanks to you! :-)
Now...the header photo item was something I saw in my travels...and you know where...ETSY! My friend was asking questions about how to display her jewelry the other day, so when I saw these earring displays I thought: "These would look great in a shop's window!"...And so it began! The questions!!
What am "I" going to do to market my little flowers more effectively?! O_0 I love making them, but I'm apparently not marketing them very well...because they're not selling from my shop on any kind of regular basis...In fact, the last crochet flower of any kind that I sold was somewhere back in the beginning of time...or August and September. ^_^
I LOVE making them, but I think I have to stop making them for now. :-( I mean...where am I going to put them?! And considering how low the price is already, how am I ever gonna make any money on them with them selling this slowly?!...This is my last one for a while...
It has my 'signature' two little loops on the back too...
I'm thinking that maybe I'm marketing them wrong. I mean any one of my little crochet flowers can be used in any number of different ways!...Look at the ones below and you'll see what I mean...(and remember...they are basically the same flower that I can make at different sizes and in different colors)...
They can be worn as a necklace, with a leather cord or chain inserted through the back loops on the flower...
...Or they can be worn as a comb in your hair, with the teeth of the comb pulled over the loops in the back of the flower...
(Or I can crochet a hairband going through the loops if you like. I haven't done that yet, but it would be easy enough!)
...They can also be worn simply as a brooch, with a stick pin inserted through the loops in the back...
...Or they can be worn as a little flower on the end of a shirt...
...They can be pinned to your favorite hairband...
(Or even clipped there with one of those hair clips if you like!)
They can be pinned to your favorite hat...
...Or to your favorite bedroom slippers, or the tops of your shoes...
I can insert a bangle and a finger loop on them so that you can wear them as a bracelet. {I secretly made the first one of these "hand sandal" bracelets with a bride in mind. I could just see her dancing her first dance with her hubby, and having my bracelet on her arm swaying with her dress as she went around the floor. :-)}...
I can put some key ring loops on the edge of them, so you can have your keys at the ready...
The small, small ones...can also be worn (as my customer is showing) as a men's boutonniere or lapel pin...
...Or they can be worn, as I did with these beaded flower earrings that I totally made myself from the ear wire on down, hanging from your ears...
You can even put a ribbon through the back of any of my crochet flowers and tie them to the top of a gift or present..like on the top of the box for a baby gift!
I've lately even considering crocheting a couple of flowers into the bottom edge of my scarves!...
I didn't start doing that yet because, frankly, the scarves aren't selling like 'hot cakes' either!! ^_^ And if I can't get the low price I'm asking for them now, how would I ever be able to add more price when I put flowers on them?! O_O
So, what do you think?! Should I maybe be marketing them differently? Like as "The EVERYTHING Flower"?! Someone, a while ago, suggested that maybe I show more pictures in my shop of how they can be worn. I 'poo pooed' it at the time because.....really...more pictures?! I thought not!! But now I'm thinking maybe they were right!
So if "The EVERYTHING Flower" is the way to go, exactly how would I do that?! Any suggestions would sincerely be greatly appreciated. I gotta come up with something to start moving these 'babies'!! I'm missing not making them! {By the way, you can click any of the flowers above to go to my Wuglyees shop to buy the ones I showed if you're interested...And No! That's not the real reason I did this post, in case you're the suspicious type!! LOL}
In other news...a lot of my friends are still in the dark from the storm!! They say my Connecticut friends may not get power until next Tuesday or so!!! :-( I feel so bad for them. But they're making the best of it...cracking jokes about getting grumpier every hour, sitting in dark windows looking for the electric company truck, and being 'stinky', oily-haired pioneer women! LOL
WWLP 22News said that as of 10:30 P.M. Friday the electric company was reporting 26,067 customers still without power. And the national grid is reporting 17,098 outages in Franklin, Hampden, and Hampshire counties...right around where I live!! I'm so thankful that we didn't lose power that long...Soooooo thankful!! I wouldn't have been able to talk my head off to you, ^_^ or crochet my flowers!!...*gulp!*
Okay....off I go to do some thinking....Okay, by now you know that 'thinking', in some instances, is code for 'take a nap'. LOL Especially in 'this' instance! ^_^ I've been working on my crocheted frame. Crocheting the ruffle is making me tired! Hopefully I'll finish it later though and be able to show it to you tomorrow. :-)
In the meantime have a good day everybody! :-) ...and don't forget to enter the new scarf Giveaway! {Click on the picture of the gift wrapped scarf on the right hand sidebar -------> for details}
I Think I Need To...
I think I need to change things up,
flip the script, change direction;
I don't want to lose my love
for that which I have so much affection?
I think I need some brand new eyes,
to see things a different way.
Because the way that I've been seeing
really isn't gonna pay.
I think, because it's me, I need
some creative inspiration.
Some sketches, markers, ball point pens,
and some Disney animation.
I think that this may take some time.
It seems a lot for me to do.
So, maybe I should change my mind.
I'll let you know when I get back to you!
I DO love your flowers! I think "The Everything Flower" is a good idea, and even though you may not like it, maybe some more photos on your site would be beneficial.
ReplyDeleteENTER ME!
Alittlesprite, Thank you so much for the input. And I know you're right about the pictures.....*sigh* I'm gonna have to 'get real' about the whole photo-taking thing. That may be my real problem with my shop in the first place. :-( Okay....WILL DO!! ^_^ Have a good weekend, Sprite...and you're entered.
ReplyDeleteI love your flowers! I am surprised they are not selling. I really like the brand name "The Everything Flower" I think also that more ways to show how to wear it the better. Also do you offer ideas in your description of ways to wear it? Good luck, I hope they start selling! I have to say I take lousy pictures for Etsy shop for some reason.
ReplyDeleteSusan, Awwww! Thank you...about my flowers in general, and about the name "The Everything Flower". I think that's the way I'm gonna go. I'm just gonna have to bite the bullet...so to speak...and take those pictures! *sigh*...And yes, I do put ways to wear them in my descriptions. Most of the descriptions anyway. But I think I'm gonna put a link to this post in those descriptions too now!...Thanks for the thoughtful comment Susan. :-) Have a good rest of the day!
ReplyDeleteYou have some wonderful ideas for flowers that I never even thought of. I love the idea of you making them into hair-bands. I think the 'everything' flower is definitely a great idea :)
ReplyDeleteJo-anne, Really?! You like the 'Everything Flower'?! And the hair band idea?! Great! :-) Thank you! I think it'll be my next marketing campaign for real! :-) Thanks Jo!
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure. I can't wait to check out what you come up with :D
ReplyDeleteJo-anne, You know you'll be among the first to know! ^_^
