I've never really ascribed to the expression: "Silence is golden..."...even today...when I really don't have anything pressing to talk about! ^_^ Generally speaking, I love it when there's some talking going on! ...Although I do love this print! (In the header photo) ...I don't know where I'd put it though. Everywhere in my house is 'noise-talk central'! LOL
But...lack of planned subject matter today did have me asking myself this morning: "Is this gonna be the first day where you haven't posted anything on your blog?"...And the answer quickly came back: "No!"...LOL...because even when there's nothing planned for me to talk about, I can ALWAYS find something to say! ^_^
Don't get me wrong though! I know that sometimes silence is called for...or, if not called for, you can get 'struck' by it! That's what happened to me when I saw the headline that was posted by someone on Facebook the other day. It said: "Police shoot, kill mother stabbing child"!...I was immediately struck by silence!
And after I saw the video...
...I was struck by silent tears. :-(
Yes...sometimes you can't help but be silent...But, in my mind, silent is different from quiet. So, maybe the phrase should be: "Being quiet is golden"!....O_0 But then it wouldn't have the same 'roll' off the tongue. :-]
I think of 'quiet' as a more necessary word sometimes though. Like...
...when you're studying or reading a good book...Speaking of which, remember the good book I read recently...The Help?! Well...I still haven't seen the movie!! Do you believe that?! :-/ But that's gonna be remedied next week! Me and my girlfriend are gonna have a 'girl's day', and we're gonna see it together!! :-) I'm excited! I hope the movie lives up to the book!! Friends of mine that have seen it say it does! :-)
Okay...so maybe 'silence' is gonna be necessary then too! :-)
How about 'quiet' being necessary when you're in certain places...like this!...

...Mainly I think of quiet here because there's no one around to talk to...except yourself! LOL But I guess sitting in 'silence' in these places is appropriate too. Necessarily so... for sanity, in some instances!.......Yes! I do know I'm rambling! ^_^
And 'quiet' works wonders when you're listening to certain music...like orchestras with all of the melodic strings, or Kristin Chenoweth singing with the Boston Pops Orchestra...
And with that....I'm gonna be quiet now. :-) Take a pause for the weekend, and Have a golden day everybody! :-)

Sitting Quiet
I love just sitting quiet,
letting silence be my friend.
I'm not afraid to be alone,
and hear my breathing out and in.
With no T.V. on, or music,
just some thinking done, with me,
In a world where quiet reading
is now called "activity".
There's no reason to be scared,
or to need all kinds of noise,
to create some kind of chaos,
or to look for games and toys;
Just a quiet low lit room,
where I ponder my life course,
where I think of plans ahead,
but no thoughts I have to force.
Just me, still, and sitting quiet.
Nothing altering my mood.
No smoke wafting at my sinus,
no one mad or being rude.
Can you turn off all the gadgets?
Can you hear your own self sigh?
If you cannot take the quiet,
You should stop and wonder why!
Your poem says it all! Silence IS golden! I love it myself! Some people have their TV or radio on all day when at home (there's nothing wrong with that, by the way), but I like it quiet!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, but I couldn't watch that video. I can't bear things like that! How horrible!!
Have a great day my friend!
CinLynn, It's probably just as well that you didn't look at the video. It was very sad. It's even sadder for me because it happened in my home state of Georgia. :-( Kids have such a rough go of it in this system...Thank you for the nice comlement on the poem though. Have a good day, Bead!
ReplyDeleteO my well i now have silent tears rolling down my face i can't really get my head around what i just heard. As a mother myself i always want to protect my children not harm them. She must have been very poorly to attack them and her poor other son that is left alive will now have to live with those scares in his head poor poor soul. dee x
ReplyDeletedelia, That stabbing news, and the knowledge that that poor little 8 year old's world just completely changed, will certainly bring you to silent tears. It would anybody I think. I sure did me! :-( What kind of pain must that mother have been in too, huh?! Or was there some kind of mental illness? I don't know. All I know is that it was really sad. :-( Silence-inducing.......
ReplyDeleteI love your poem. I too enjoy sitting & thinking in a quiet home. It doesn't happen very often but when it does its lovely.
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch the video. Just the thought of it was enough to turn my tummy. That poor family :'(
Jo-anne, Thank you for the nice words about the poem...and I totally understand about the video. :-( I keep thinking about the poor little 8 year old left behind. So sad. :-(
