Say Cheese...With A Fork In It!!

      Before I get started let me thank falboart for the use of the artwork in this post. I love it when I need to tell a story and I find an Etsy shop that perfectly assists me!! Thank you falboart! :-) {By the way, all of the prints/posters used in this post are for sell in his shop HERE. Or you can click directly on any photo to go to that particular piece.}
     Now...the story. I should start by telling you that the name of the cubist dental artwork in the header photo is Say Cheese. It was done by Anthony Falbo. When I was looking for a way to tell you about my hubby's trip to the dentist the other day, not only did I see this image, but I saw the whole series of dental artwork done in his shop!....SCORE!!
       Yes, hubby and I have had some issues with a lot of things where our bodies are concerned. Well, mostly me! ^_^...But one thing we hadn't had a lot of problems with is our teeth! We've both always had pretty strong teeth!...
        ...Well, except for a yellowing tooth in the front of hubby's mouth...a crown gone bad from his younger football days...*giggle*...and my front tooth crown from....well...it just broke off, okay!!
           I think a chicken bone got it on one of my particularly ravenous 'girl' days!...Whatever!! LOL
     But over the last couple of weeks hubby was complaining occasionally about a toothache. He couldn't put hot or cold things directly on it...
        I resisted...strongly...the urge to say "I TOLD YOU SO!!"...and I really wanted to...because for months prior to this tooth issue I've been trying to dissuade him from his new found love...Twizzlers ...
       ...and other gummy, chewy candies too! {Although...YUM!!! You really can't beat a Twizzler, can you? It's low-fat and everything!!! ^_^}
         Ummmm...where was I now?!...Oh yeah!...Anyway...he's been chewing away on these candies and getting the sugars all stuck to his teeth. And on more than one occasion I found him with a fork tine wedged in his mouth trying to pry something off of a tooth, or to get it from between a tooth! Grrrr! A fork!!!!...Really?!!
      So, imagine my surprise when this toothache just popped up out of nowhere!.....yeah right!
      Shortly after that...he realized there was a hollow or broken off area in one of the molars, and the pain was becoming more intense...
         So, I made him call the dentist...and yes, ladies...which some of you wives already know I'm sure!...some husbands are the kind you have to MAKE call the dentist!!...*I resist following that sentence with the word "babies!!" LOL*
       Don't get me wrong!...hubby goes to the dentist regularly, but those visits are when he's going to get them cleaned by the smiling dental hygienist who LOVES his teeth!...
           ...He loves hearing her say how great his teeth are, and how they're hardly crooked or anything!! :-))
        I had to make him call when he knew that when he got there the dentist, nor the hygienist,  were gonna be smiling at him!! They were gonna be unhappy!...especially with the knowledge that he's been eating all that teeth-eroding candy, not flossing his teeth regularly, but instead...'forking' his teeth!!...Oh no! They were not gonna be happy at all!!
      Now comes the really bad part!! ^_^ The dentist office he went to is the same dentist office that I refused to go to anymore!...long story. But suffice it to say that the reason I finally decided to high-tail it outta there...for good!...was when I had a tooth removed also. The dentist almost removed the wrong tooth because he came in the wrong room! He had about three extractions going in three different rooms all at the same time!!
      Anyway!...when I finally was sure he knew who he was working on, and I was sufficiently numbed up...that's another whole story!...he went to take my tooth out and he was yanking my head and twisted my neck so much that I thought I was gonna get killed in the chair by a snapped broken neck!...or at the very least, end up with whiplash!...not what you expect to come away with when you leave the dentist office carrying your huge tooth with the roots still dangling!!...Yes he did!!!! YIKES!....NOT AGAIN....NOT ME anyway!!!
      Hubby felt bad that I left the dentist office like I did...in a huff, without a 'I'm so sorry, but I'll be going to another dentist from now on. Thank you for your services. ♥'...But that's not how I was feeling when I left there!!! And I'm not a faker!! They just better be glad I didn't tell them...in front of their whole waiting room full of customers...how I was REALLY feeling!! I thought that was polite enough!! LOL
      But hubby went back!! And he's been going back...without incident, until now!...So, he went in, told them what the problem was, they took an X-ray...
      ...and Oh Yeah! That baby had to come out!! Apparently it was all broken down in the gum and everything!
          They didn't take it out on the first visit though. They sent him away with a prescription for antibiotics that he had to take for a week to get rid of any infection that might've developed, and then he had to go back in for the extraction.
       I think he secretly thought that since there was now a whole slew of new dentists sharing the work-load in this dentist office, he wouldn't even see the same dentist that gave me so much trouble!...But guess what?! ^_^ That's the one he got!! I think he's their 'dental office extraction expert'!....and that ain't saying much for this office!! ^_^
      Into the chair he went...I'm glad I wasn't there to witness what happened next!!!...
        He had the exact same experience I did! Yanking and yanking, knee to the waist pulling, drilling, jabbing, bleeding, and more yanking...and the tooth came out in more than one piece. The dentist kept going back in...and back in...and back in!! Hubby jokingly says...now!...that he thought he was gonna come out of there deaf and blind and not be able to have babies ever again!! LOL {Although who he's planning to have those with...he's still not clear on! LOL I know one thing...it's NOT ME! That's for sure!!!...They might come out with twizzlers and forks stuck up their nose!! ^_^}
       Anyway!....the teeth he has left,...after warm salt and water for a couple of days, and a prescription for Vicodin...which he didn't fill...are very happy!...and that was all he wanted in the first place! :-]
       I almost said THE END! But there is a prolog...I don't think he'll be going back to this dentist office again!...Well, maybe he will...to see the nice smiling hygienist! :-))

Candy Rhyme

It's not right...I know,
to start your day with a chocolate face;
But the M&Ms with peanuts
gave my dream such a lovely taste.

It got me really thinking
about the candies of my youth,
like "Pixie Sticks" and "Twizzlers",
WOW! I had such a big 'Sweet Tooth'!

I remember in the playground,
trading candy like a stock.
It's a wonder you never hear
of kids going into "candy shock"!

'Hershey's with almonds',
'Kit Kats' and 'Peanut Bars';
Chocolate 'Reese's cups',
'3 Musketeers' and 'Mars'.

'Pay Days', 'Sugar Babies',
'Nestle's Crunch' and 'Heath Bars' too;
'York Peppermint patties',
because hard candies just won't do.

'Snickers', 'Milky Way',
'Butterfinger', Raisinets';
All that chocolate, good for me,
but not good for household pets!

'Twix', 'Reese's Pieces',
'Almond Joy', and Oh Yeah!, 'Mounds';
'Tootsie Rolls' and 'Whoppers'
I could eat them by the pounds!

'Dove Bar', 'Now or Laters',
'Laffy Taffy', 'Zagnut', 'Skor'.
Okay, I'm gonna stop now,
but there's plenty, plenty more!

Now that I'm grown up
I don't eat candy all the time.
Instead, I have sweet dreams of it,
and write a candy rhyme!

  1. My hubby is partial to twizzlers too. He LOVES the cherry ones! I don't buy them very often, cuz he can't stay out of them. I feel bad for your hubby! I've had a bad experience with a dentist myself and so has hubby. I switched, but to get hubby to go to this one is like "pulling teeth!" LOL Maybe I should have him read your post!
    As for your poem.....I'd forgotten about some of those candies! I grew up with them too!

    Glad the "ordeal," "incident," or whatever else he may be calling it, is over for him. Say "hi" for me!!

  2. CinLynn, You know...I think there might be some addictive substance in Twizzlers! LOL Especially the cherry ones!...Definitely have your hubby read this post. Maybe it'll spare him! But don't let him read the poem. That could un-do all of the good! ^_^ I'll give my toothless hubby your message! LOL Have a good day, my friend!

  3. Gosh I feel bad for your hubby having a toothache. I'm glad he got it all fixed up.
    I guess its a good thing we don't get twizzlers here or the dentists may have more patients to take care of!

  4. Jo-anne, Yes, I know you can sympathize with him after your tooth issues lately too! :-] But he hasn't complained, even about soreness, for a couple of days now. So I think he's back on the road again....looking for more Twizzlers, no doubt!! LOL
