Is the Weather Making You Crazy...Too?!

      {This photo and the one below are scenes from the blog Croatia}

    This week Beli and her mom will be flying across the Atlantic ocean from Croatia to the West to visit friends and family. She's trying to soak in as much sun as she can in Croatia before she goes, even though she says she's looking forward to playing in the snow with her nephews in the West!........Really?! Why would she, or anybody for that matter, be looking forward to leaving this kind of weather...
    ...to go to this kind of weather?!
    {Remember Mariann Rea's snow photos I shared on the blog HERE?!}...Oh well! Apparently some people can appreciate snow. Some people like being cold and wet, and enjoying the avoidance of frost bite and hypothermia!!! LOL.....Me?!...I like snow...Really, I do!...But from a distance!...Through the window, or on T.V. in an old movie...but NOT on my body, under my feet, and on my head!!! LOL
   I'm not that thrilled with rain the last couple of days either! It rained a dreary kind of 'here comes the gloom and darkness' rain ALL DAY yesterday!! This was all I saw outside my window from morning till night...
    And as much as I want to complain and pout about the weather here in Massachusetts, I KNOW it could have been waaaaaay worse! I mean, Chicago has been having horrid weather! Heavy storms in their area halted air travel to and from that midwestern city! They had a really powerful storm over the weekend that unleashed snow and strong winds across the upper Midwest area and left behind some dangerously cold temperatures. People there working to dig out of that mess are really going to have some challenges!!
     That storm closed major highways in several states, canceled more than 1,600 flights in Chicago, and collapsed the roof of the Minnesota Vikings' football stadium!! I saw the 16 inches of snow come cascading down onto the football field! NO FUN!!!
     At least six deaths from this storm too were reported! The storm dropped nearly 2 feet of snow in Minnesota and Wisconsin! And heavy snow also was reported in northwest Indiana and southeast Michigan early Monday as the storm marched east...Doesn't sound like people could possibly be looking forward to the beginning of this week, does it?! :-/
    But the weather is not ONLY causing havoc here in the states! In a whole other part of the world, Estonia, in Northern Europe, they've been experiencing blizzards and...STORM MONIKA!! Here's some photos I found. Trust me, after you see these you'll be thankful for rain....and longing for sun! :-)
          A Youtube video of a man driving in the storm in Estonia gives you the full experience!!
    And yet, dogs still found something fun about it!....
     ...and apparently some people did too! :-)
    Why am I so focused on this weather?! Well...frankly...it's because I know that pretty soon it'll be coming our way!! In fact, these photos of snow storms is exactly what Massachusetts usually starts to look like after December, on into March!... *sigh*....Why can't I be on a sunset cruise somewhere?! :-]
                                                 {photo from the blog Metamorphosis}
     So, Chicago....Estonia....I feel your pain. Or I WILL feel your pain very soon! This cold and rain is doing a number on my joints and muscles and I don't like it!!....I don't like it one bit!!! Grrrrr! Now, have I complained enough for you?! ^_^ Well, stay tuned. I'm sure I'm not done.....The cold season has only just begun!! And my complaining can be endless!......I have poetry!!! ^_^

Poetry

Poetry, the gift of words,
that help you say whats in your heart;
that puts your thoughts of life together,
but pulls emotions all apart.

Poetry, your quiet friend,
that gives your voice a place to land;
that gives the things you'd  never say
a way to jump out from your hand.

Poetry, done to a beat,
a beat of words, said right in time,
without confusion of the music,
but just the rythum and the rhyme.

Poetry, phrase harmony;
the way a noun and adverb meet;
the way they line up line-by-line,
and all Not needed they delete.

Poetry, the passing thoughts,
and all the others I hold dear,
of all the people and the places
that I've written down right here.

Poetry, the gift of words,
and putting them together too;
Without the pen and paper
what in the world would my mind do?

  3. Wow! That IS a LOT of snow! She said it was bad, but whoa....those photos really put it in perspective! Thankfully the snow missed us, but not the cold!! Freezing here today! Roads are very icy and so we have to be careful today. I'm sure your rain will end soon and then you can become an Eskimo too! :))

  5. Hahahahahaa I love your post today!! :D
    I NEVER said I like cold weather! :D But it's waaaaay more prettier with snow than with rain and darkness. Of course the storm Monika here was not kind and 4 people also died because of it... But today was pretty, clear skies and not a drop of new snow. It's suppose to be getting colder now too, so far it's been okay, not too cold. Hopefully it won't get to -20F like we have had here sometimes. I remember one year I had 2 friends visiting from UK and it was -22F outside. They hadn't seen snow for 10 years and the only thing we were able to do in that weather was drop from one bar to another to keep warm LOL ...and they had a glass of beer in each one.... hahaha good times :D

    And LOL, good one on the Eskimo mention, Cindy! ;)

  13. Janet, Oooo! California!!!!...Now why did you have to go and say California?!!! ^_^ And I was not one of those kids that liked to play in the snow! I'm from Georgia. The first time I got out of the car in Massachusetts there were piles of snow on the ground, and I was like one of those cats that someone had tied shoes to their feet!! Ha! Ha! It was very.......uncomfortable! {I still feel that way sometimes!! ^_^

  15. We have the snow, wind, and cold here...brrrr...and my family in Chicago has what you so beautifully shown here in pics. But I grew up in it and I do enjoy the changing seasons...only now I'm getting older and somehow I've been dreaming of sun, warmth, sand, water that's not hard (frozen)...this is only December? What's in store when winter is truly here?

  16. Wow all that snow looks very pretty in the photos but it sure makes me feel awful cold just looking at it. I think I'll stick to the nice mild weather we are having here at the moment :) To be honest I can't even imagine being in all that white stuff!

  17. the pictures from Monika made me giggle. When I lived in Oklahoma we had a terrible ice storm that resulted in widespread power outages. The bad part was Oklahoma only has one electric company, and it took weeks to repair all of the lines. I was without power in freezing temperatures for almost THREE weeks!! I was also in the process of packing for my move to Texas and it was finals week at school. Talk about bad timing! I had to pack and move in the dark. and I remember sleeping with TONS of layers on, hoping I wouldn't die of hypothermia in my sleep. lol. Now, I only complain about the heat!

  18. yaya, I didn't know you had family in Chicago! I do too...sorta. I've never met them, but I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters there! It's so tough knowing that someone you care about is in the deep freezer! LOL I'm thinking of warm places and sun and flowers too!! :-)

  19. Jo-anne, Yeah, if I was you I'd stick to the nice mild weather too!! LOL We had another little dusting of snow last night, but mostly it's just C-O-L-D!!!

  20. Hollie, There's nothing worse than being cold.....except for being in the dark...AND cold!! LOL...I'm curious, what was the weather like in Texas when you got there?! Inquiring minds want to know! ^_^

  21. LOL! I can see you in my mind's eye when you first encountered snow... pulling up your cold wet feet and questioning why you were there!

    I feel for all the folks across the country that are having such a cold and horrible winter. It's REALLY nasty out there. Spring will return... hopefully early!
