Time spent with my hubby is always fun, funny, very nice, and very thought-provoking. A 'Date Night' of pork chops, sauteed veggies, and some chocolate chip cookies with pecans led to a conversation about hair! We talked and laughed about how we have changed over the years, and what our current hair-dos and look are saying about us...and if it's actually reflecting who we feel we are!
My wind-swept "Doo" in the header photo is saying that I don't mind making a fool out of myself as long as I'm with someone I love. :-) But I thought I'd share some of my more, shall I say, "talkative" hair-dos over the years! {Please forgive the un-clear....and out-of-focus in more ways than one...photos! ^_^}
This photo was taken the night we arrived up North from Georgia. I was 12 years old. The hair-do was saying: "I'm tired...and I DON'T CARE what I look like!!" LOL
Just looking at some of my 'HAIR' photos, you might wonder if I ever really got it done. Well, here's proof that I did. {Thought I should put that disclaimer here before I went any further!! LOL}
Sometimes I straightened it with a hot comb. Sometimes I wore it in an afro. My afro-"do" had to be preceeded by a lot of braids.
The braids would give it that curly, thicker look!...And Oh Yeah! I used to wear me some afro!!! ^_^
Ahhh! The good old days! ^_^ But afros weren't my only "Do"! I also went through a spell with the 'Powder Puffs'!
As you can see, I even wore my 'Powder Puffs' to work. What was I thinking?! And what was my hair saying about me then?!! LOL It was probably saying: "Oooo! You're such a professional....
...'Doh Doh'!!! LOL
I even, on occasion, pulled all of my hair to the side to make one BIG 'Puff'!!
...And let me just stop and say right here, that it amazes me how much I don't look like I was feeling at the time. I was feeling very confident and in touch with who I was....but I look like I was insecure and didn't know how to do my hair!! LOL WHATEVER!! ^_^
I went through another hair stage where I parted my afro in the middle and combed the top of it down. In this picture my nephew was probably thinking: "WHY, Auntie?!!" LOL
But I really liked this look....for a while!
I sometimes just wore the braids too though.
I would keep a hat handy for when I had to hide my 'cute' though! LOL
Those were the days when my hair was saying: "Be YOU, Girl! You are not your hair!" :-]
It was easier, hair-wise, on those days because I didn't have to worry about wind, rain, potions, and trying to lean my head just right so I could make it look cute!! :-)
But, clearly, there were days when I just let my 'Freaky Hair-Do' flag fly!! LOL
...Or I just covered it up all together!! LOL
On some of these days hubby would look at my head with that "WHY, Baby,.....why?!!" look too! LOL
But, as the header photo shows, he can't talk!! He's had some interesting hair....or NON-hair days himself!
He wants me to add the disclaimer that this photo was this morning before he shaved or combed his.......whatever!! LOL {By the way, in the picture above this one, where he's all dressed up, he says I was singing to him and he was just very emotional. That he wasn't looking at my hair at all!...That's his story, and he's sticking to it! LOL}
Hey! Everybody has their issues these days. For me it's been hair. For some it's gas prices...
....for others, it's simply...
...ISSUES!!! ^_^ ...Go ahead! Take your best shot!!! :-))
Be The Best You Can Be
I live my life every day,
trying to be the best I can,
so that I am not affected
by the degrading words of man.
If "I" know who I am,
then I don't care what others think;
I don't end up in some bar,
trying to hide my pain with drink.
Oh Yes! THEY have opinions
on what THEY think you should do,
on how you wear your hair,
where you should go, also with who!
I nod and give a grin,
respecting what they want to say;
but it's my own thoughts that count
at the end of the day.
It makes it so much easier
when I'm being the best I can;
Then I feel good about my choices;
I don't fear words from any man!
I just love your blog. The hair is great. Your poem is fantastic, how so very true. So nice you and your hubby have such a great relationship. It is neat to go down memory lane now and then. Have a great day Deb.
ReplyDeletebeautiful hair, loving the 'fro'. what a great trip down memory lane, great pictures.
ReplyDeleteit's amazing how often we change hair styles and our guys just keep the same buzz cut their entire life!
Peg, Awwwww! Thank you so much! Sometimes I think: "People are gonna think you're some kind of nut!" LOL But clearly that hasn't stopped me from talking! ^_^ Besides, what fun is it going down memory lane if you don't have anyone to laugh at...or with you?! Right?! ^_^ Have a good day my friend!
ReplyDeleteLisa, Ha! Ha! I don't know about beautiful, but it's interesting!! Yeah...definitely "interesting"!! LOL And right you are about guys and their hair...or lack there-of. ^_^
ReplyDeleteI don't think your a nut at all. I love how real and honest and genuine of a person you are. You have the kind of relationship with your husband that most people envy. It is great to have your best friend share in those precious memories. My husband and I have that same kind of relationship. I love your blog's and how real they are.
ReplyDeleteKeep Talking my dear friend and Sister!!!
ReplyDeletePeg, I'll just say "THANK YOU" then. :-]
ReplyDeletePeg, And I WILL keep talking. Go ahead and TRY to shut me up!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteaaawww what a really moving post. I loved your photo's and what really touched me was the love you and husband share together its magic. I loved the photo of you both your wearing a red top and your just cuddled into each other so sweet. I think your hair looks fab and so do you, your sweetness shines through. dee x
ReplyDeletedelia, I'm so glad you enjoyed my bad hair days. :-] I have to tell you though, that that photo is not my hubby. That was a family friend. That picture was taken when I was about 15 or 16, 2 years before hubby and I started dating. I put it in this post because of my afro.I would have had half a head if I had cut him out of it! Ha! Ha! Ha! Anyway...I thank you for the sweet words. Your sweetness is shining through too! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a blast from the past! You did go through some style changes, but through it all, you still stayed cute! And you're right....hubby has no room to talk! I should show you some of ours one day. I'll have to take a brave pill or two first! LOL
ReplyDeleteCinLynn, Oh Yeah, style changes, bad hair days, taking crazy pills that made me show it on this blog!!! LOL And thank you for the "cute" comment. You're a good friend!! ^_^ So, come on, good friend, bring out your stash of "blast from the past" pictures!! :-]
ReplyDeletewe all have our hair days that we hide! LOL good for you for letting it all fly!
ReplyDeleteChar, Thank you!! I'd love to see your photos sometime too! Let 'em fly, Girl!!! ^_^
ReplyDeleteI remember your long thick wavy hair... your whole family has beautiful hair.
ReplyDeleteThat's too funny...I can imagine my youngest to have these thoughts when she's older...I adore her hair...her...not so much...she has beautiful BIG hair...and I can do ANYTHING with it...I love it.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are great!!! Thanks for sharing them with us Debbie.
HAPPY EASTER!
Char.x
Alicia, Mine is even thicker now than it used to be, I think...and grayer!! LOL Oh how the years will change things! ^_^
ReplyDeleteWe Blog Artists, Well Char, there are days when I love mine too. NOT on 'wash-your-hair day'!! It's so much work on those days!! :-)) But I love the fact that if I need a certain look it's very versatile...very 'pain-in-the-neck-ish!...but very versatile! ^_^ At any rate, I'm glad you enjoyed my pictures.
ReplyDeleteI love your different hair styles. When I was a teen (and in my early 20's) I used to wish I had hair that was curly and made me look like I had lots more hair. Its funny how when you're younger you wish for something completely opposite to what you're blessed with!
ReplyDeleteJo-anne, Ha! Ha! True! Although I didn't really dislike it. I just didn't wear it well!! ^_^ I kind of put it together according to whatever mood I was in at the time....Sometimes it worked. Sometimes it just didn't!! LOL
ReplyDeletewoah! THat's a WHOLE lotta hair you got goin on! LOL!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this post :) Thanks for giving us all a glimpse into your many hair styles & I have to say you & your hubby are SO cute. It is very apparent that he loves you very much & that you love him as well. You two are a lovely couple :)
ReplyDeletexoxo
Alittlesprite, Ha! Ha! It sure is!!! ^_^
ReplyDeleteAshley, I'm glad you liked it. :-) And you're right about hubby and me. We've been a part of each other's lives, in one way or another, for almost 40 years now! We've kinda grown on each other like moss grows on trees. ^_^ And sometimes we're almost as sappy as an old Maple too!
ReplyDeleteHaha Great post! :D :D Cool hair-do's! :)
ReplyDeleteMariann, :-] Glad you liked 'em!...Or are you just laughing at me?!! ^_^ {By the way, hubby found the seeds! They only had one pack left! I'm going to try to get them in the mail to you tomorrow.}
